I am currently a contractor located in rural america. I have been in business for 25 years and have never had anyone tip. I do get alot of customers that ask to pay with cash. I will give them a break if that is the case. Most contractors charge an hourly rate and are happy with that. BTW, thats alot of money to pay someone to caulk and grout...unless it was a 20x20 tile job.

The subsidization of peoples wages by the working stiff needs to stop! The wealth accumulation by the top 5% keeps increasing, while the working stiff continue to subsidize other working stiffs! This needs to stop IMO.

Tipping a contractor? Your wife is brainwashed. And don't be insulted. I'm glad you had the common sense to grab the cash. Tipping a contractor is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while.

Unfortunately, they've ((....)) brainwashed your wife and she's probably in agreement with this other type of California insanity:

so you must be the type that wouldn't Tip the Dealer at a Casino ?

I tip the dealer, barber, waiter, bag guy at the airport etc. They are providing me a service and don't get paid well.

A contractor gets paid very well.

Do you tip a teacher that educates your child? If not, why not?
