I can't see tipping a contractor as that is so much different than someone working in a restaurant or as a valet attendant or things like that,...and hell, these days its hard enough to get a contractor that really wants to work.We have been looking for one to do some work and it ends up that they never show up,so basically they are getting real lazy about running their business

True , whatever it is that's as far as I would take it. Whatever profit they made they were cool with off the price they gave you, I wouldn't have tipped them either.. tipping does get tricky though

Some Cheap Fu*ks around here .. lol

I don't think people are cheap. Many give plenty to charities. But I know personally, I'm sick of people expecting a tip for doing their jobs. If you're not paid enough, talk to your boss about a raise or find another job.

giving to charities is different than tipping. Your Thread is about Tipping

IMO ... unless the guy doing the work is the Owner, I'm tipping.
and depending on how good the work is, the tip is adjusted.

as far as the workers asking their Boss for more .. contractors are known to pay their workers next to nothing. a lot use Day workers, they ain't making much

I felt your post implied people were cheap. Cheap people aren't that charitable in my experience. In my neck of the woods, contactors and subcontractors make very good money. Many can even afford to turn down work. It's rare for me to drive down a stree now without seeing a home being worked on. With that said, I still don't believe people should be tipped for doing their job. Above and beyond....yes.

no my post about being cheap is meant for Tipping proposes . like I said the subject of the thread is Tipping

to say someone is cheap in general wouldn't be fair ... you could live in a $2 million home, drive a $70,000 car, own a $500K boat
so I said what I said about Tipping, contractors

Fair enough. I didn't interpret it that way. I'll still stand by my other comment. SF/Daly City (spend much of my time in the Presidio/Marina area)

Nope, but I know in SF, they average around $90k (if you're talking general salary). If you're asking on grout jobs, I have no idea. As mentioned, this guy got slightly over $50 per hour (I think that's enough).

Maybe hi if your paying cash and there illegal however my workman's comp through NY State insurance fund is through the fucking roof and it's only getting worse to operate as a small business.insurance companies are now requiring endemnifacations from every other subs .insurance company who I write checks too. Operating as a small business is very expensive if you do it legit. I am reffering to contracting buisnesses working around machinery open holes so on .as far as tipping is concerned my hand ain't out unless your wife and my kids are hungry. Just kidding lol

Ok, so a little over $50 an hour isn't enough. So how much should someone have to pay for grout/caulking work?
