This trend of sitting out bowl games is only going to get worse

I understand that players dont want to get hurt in these games. However, thats what insurance policies are for.

These players are NOT allowed to sign with agents just yet (unless they want to forfeit their college eligibility).

I've said this before but i dont understand why a senior qb who is 100% healthy would want to skip their bowl game? Its their last game before the draft and their team would most likely showcase them to improve their draft status.

I know plenty of people who spend a lot of $$$$ to travel and see their team play in the bowl game. I have traveled to a bowl game myself and its a ton of fun to catch up with old friends, hang in a new city, and to watch your team play.

I dont see these games as "exhibition games" as it counts on their record

I am like others that i see both sides. The only thing i would do as a head coach is if a guy says he is out then he doesn't go on the trip and hang out on the sideline. Tell him to go train for the combine as the only guys going are ones playing or hurt during the season Then again other coaches would use that against that head coach when recruiting star recruits about how the coach isn't loyal so who knows what the answer is on this one.

The insurance policies are rather limited, of course it provides some protection, but it’s not like it makes up for potential future earnings. They tend to be based on position and are based on rookie contracts. Most players are trying to get that first non-rookie deal to cash in. If your projected outside the top ten draft picks, say 11th-20th, you can usually get 60% of the average of your position taken in similar positions for their rookie contract with no consideration to bonuses, incentives, etc. If your projected outside of the top 45-50 picks you can’t even get the insurance usually. Many times the policy doesn’t pay in full unless your never going to play in the NFL, shocking, insurance companies trying to fuck with people.

I don’t blame them for sitting in the slightest.

Many points made regarding how the current bowl system is not working for anyone. Just take a look at the lines for the two semi-finals...there are four double digit lines for the bowls...two are in the semi-finals and one other is on Jan1. They play the whole season to end up with terrible games in bowls that are sparsely attended and lose money. Another NCAA production.

Agree with this. It's insane they chose not to take the 4 best teams.

Bama, Clemson, and ND are the easy 3

For number 4, you can make a valid argument for Oklahoma, Ohio State, Georgia, and UCF (Michigan finished 7 in CFP rankings but NO argument for them)

I'm not sure the Heisman QB winner is 100% healthy yet..He had the boot off and may be 10% by game time, but saw a very slight limp when he went to the stage... and I don't think it was fake.

The poster that said players sitting out should not be allowed to go to the bowl trip, I agree with fully!.... And yes I see both sides .

I was just replying to post #50 when asking what team should have made the CFP instead of Oklahoma.

As far as players sitting out and if it is right or not, my answer is "it depends". I see both sides

I dont think its necessarily someone getting ripped, but I think at the seasons end it would be:

Bama
Clemson
UGA
Oklahoma

Before all the homer stuff comes in, I am not sour grapes for UGA. I personally think Bama and UGA are the two best teams in the league from a talent standpoint. Sucks for UGA to get knocked out due to a conference champ game, but that's how it is. So the discussion is the close loss UGA had to the best team in the nation actually made them drop.

I guess we can wait and see if anyone plays Bama closer. I am pretty sure Saban was happy to not have to play UGA again.

That being said.....I would love to see Ok and OSU play. Would be a very close game. ND will get curbed stomped by anyone in the top 5.

The players leave anyway. College is whack. They are making a business decision so they aren’t that story about a player who got hurt in his last bowl game and slipped a ton in the draft...jaylon Smith for example.

It’s smart. They are leaving college anyway who cares. Degenerates and strangers are most upset about it.... either piss off some degens and strangers....or guarantee yourself the most money possible.

I would be the same if it was a meaningless bowl game vs millions of $$$

Absolutely. Only Alabama players care about these games because they don’t amount to shit in the nfl!

Fuck Alabama. Yeah they send a ton to the league. How many are really really good though? Julio Jones? Landon Collins? That’s it for me as far as Alabama players who really have lived up to all of that Alabama hype.

How many are hall of famers?

They have as many hall of famers as Michigan University and Pittsburgh university. Case closed. Fuck Alabama. They mostly all don’t live up in the NFL....kinda like their head coach. Their average no doubt but people make it seem like Alabama is a supreme football factory for the NFL. Nah, fuck that.

only as many as michigan....is that a bad thing? its michigan!
also a lot of the alabam hype is surrounding this saban era so many of the players in the league are becoming stars now. amari cooper, oj howard, julio jones. donta hightower, cj mosley, kenyon drak, mark engram, mark barron, landon collins, derrick henry, dre kirkpatrick....these are important players on teams. no other university has that kind of star powered names in the nfl and im still leaving out a few including many drafted last year that could still become great like calvin ridley, d'ron payne,
