Players are taking advantage of the only power they have. Someday, a team or two will refuse to play in the NCAA BB tournament in the name of players' rights.

Hopefully an example is set in all sports eventually.

I don't like guys not showing up to the NFL Draft either.

It's disrespectful & kind of like not showing up to your own job interview or hiring.

16 team playoff ends a lot of this

I hope they all sit out, these early bowls games look like weekday MAC games, no one in the stands anyways

When people stop tuning in the sponsors will stop, they either need to pay the athletes something or have a 16 team playoff IMO

All of them have big insurance policies.

Even with the big insurance policies - I'd rather pick the "NFL Combine, NFL DRAFT, NFL Preseason...." than watching your dreams on TV with some money in the bank.

I don't blame these players at all. I'd do the same thing with these Non final 4 bowl games...every time.

So you leave you're brother's when the last job is not finished? What message does that send you're future team mates? Today's generation is all about the $$ and they want it the easiest way.......

I have zero problem with the guys sitting out meaningless bowl games. Most of the bowl games are exhibitions anyway. They mean nothing. Let the backups play and give them a chance to earn some exposure.

Well, look at it like this. Would you do the job you should be paid for the good of your fellow employees when you can hurt yourself and end any future income from it? At the end of the day, your teammates are not your brothers, they come 2nd. You and your family come first, then your team and teammates come second.

I think people forget, these kids are legit doing an actual job. These ones big enough to sit out aren't at the university doing this as a side activity. This is THEIR main thing/major.

Let's think of it a different way. Let's say you're a college student and you're going to get an A in a class, but there is an optional pop quiz team assignment. It's not mandatory you take this quiz as it does nothing to get you past A you already have and if you don't pass it you could potentially FAIL the whole class. Why would you even take this team assignment test with so much risk and no real reward? You wouldn't and this example is light because the only outcome is a grade. For these guys, a bad outcome could be your whole career ending.

They never heard of Insurance? I guess it's a personal choice and there is no right or wrong decision. I wouldn't want anyone who chooses not to play in my foxhole........

i used to side with the schools but now i side with the players since the value of return on education has dropped significantly.

don't blame them for sitting out and quite frankly they should because it will be a powerful message to the ncaa to make some changes.

They sit out because outside of the play offs these are exhbition games that are played at the end of the season instead of the beginning.

I wouldnt be risking injury either for nothing to gain.

I have no problem them sitting out but they should have to pay back the school for the scholarship they received.

Why? The school is getting a huge paycheck from the Bowl game no matter which players play, win or lose...

as soon as bowls started becoming noted as "meaningless" this was bound to happen. growing up bowls were a big thing but now their importance is the extra practices, not the game itself. what will absolutely happen is what you've seen with Oliver and Bosa where kids will start taking off good portions of their season once they reach their 5th game played (thus eligible for draft) in pre-draft season. other than the annual non power-5 team that beats a power-5 team in a "big" bowl game nobody cares about these results. You can even argue that guys like Fant and Hill and Henry and Grier are helping their teams but allowing the guy that will start next year to get a full game of live action.

only people that care about bowl results anymore are bettors...been like that for at least a decade

not at all true. on recent average 16 bowl teams/year lose money but playing in a bowl game with a low of 10 and a high of 21. obv most of those are the non power-5's that don't sell out their tickets and are in bowls with small pay days that dont cover their expenses....and are in conferences whose bowl allocation is tiny

the only ones who definitely don't lose are the head coaches who usually have a bonus attached to playing in a bowl and sometimes an addl amount for winning it

I don't blame the players at all. They are pimped out like cheap whores their entire career & this is their one chance to say fuck off to the pimp and secure what is best for them.
