Oxy/Roxy is expensive and once you can't afford that anymore then you just go to heroin which is way cheaper.

Also when scripts end, people often go to heroin. A lot of veterans especially.

This is highly accurate. Pill biz is booming in the streets. Roxy's are slang for Oxycodone. A 30mg Roxy sells for around 18-20 a pill. Hydrocodone 10mg are going for around $8. 5 years ago they were $5. When people can't afford their 8 hydrocodone pill habit of $64/day they buy heroin which is much cheaper.

i think it will take time for health practitioners to chnage their ways-- old school guys less likely to embrace change; their heart is in the right place, no doubt. A good friend, an oral surgeon a kind soul. Older chap. His go to Rx analgesic? Tyl 111's. Nuts. Absolutely, a narcotic should not be the first line of defnse for acute dental pain; ibuprofen 600mg/acetaminophen 500 mg trumps the analgesic effect of Tyl 111. Add the narcotic only if needed. And oxycodone is way better than codeine (codeine doesnt work on 20% of the pop, and is more brutal on the stomach). NEW guidelines have been out, BUT he's old school wont chnage........

Ricboff, I think Oxycontin is a huge problem. It seems they get addicted quickly and it's a hard drug to quit.

K, didn't mean to make it sound trivial. My bad. I do think measures r being taken. I think the management of CHRONIC pain is very challenging - not a cool way to live with daily pain. Horrible. Here's where we need science/research. NSAIDS have a ceiling and are NOT for long term use--do more damage than good after a while. Opioids lead to tolerance/addiction........ medical use of cannabis is blossoming for a reason.

Fwiw Oxycontin are not Oxycodones. Both opioides, but Oxycontin have a stamp on them that says OP which means time released. Most addicts prefer Oxycodones that aren't time released. They sell in 5mg 10mg 15mg 20mg 30mg 40mg and 80mg. Just saying'. Not trying to turn this into a Rx Forum. Lol

Not at all, it just seems they are highly addictive to people who use them. That may be true of all opiods? I'm not a drug expert.

Yeah no shit on the 80mg. That dosage would put a horse to sleep. Never seen an 80. Pretty sure it's reserved for cancer patients.

I'm prescribed Oxies right now. I'll keep you guys posted if I move up. I don't really get addicted to things though, and have a high tolerance for pain. Maybe might do the weed thing, though I hate weed. I've heard they have weed now that just kills pain but doesn't make you retarded. Anyone heard of this?

I've heard of it, but that's all I've heard is that it exists. If it's true, they should prescribe the shit out of it. I'm like you, I don't like weed.....but it works great for pain.

Id be careful with the Oxy's. A 30 day supply won't get you addicted, but when you start getting into 90 days and more then its just inevitable. Never heard of weed that kills pain and doesn't make you retarded. Being retarded is half the fun.

If you do 80 mg oxycontin you might as well do heroin. The old non time release oxy's when smoked taste just like the real deal. All that shit takes it's grip quick. Two days in a row of 80 mg oxy then nothing day 3 you are going to feel withdrawals. I used to have script after getting hit by a car. Nice at first but the monkey on your back is no joke ! I was on 2 10 mg norco a day for 3 years. Works for awhile but then you just take em to feel normal. Gave it all up cuz I dont want to die from a failed liver. The more you deal with the pain natural the more your own body fights it. Not so with the dope.

I had them for about to 90 days when I had my tonsils out. Did go through with drawls, it was pretty much the same as the worst hang over I've ever had. Nothing that can't be beaten. Will probably be on them for a lot longer this time around. I'm not a fan of the retard effect in weed though. i know a lot of people like it but it's not for me.

Good job kicking it. Was it hard? 3 years sounds like forever for that stuff.

It seems like they are cutting down on the prescriptions now. Unfortunately all the people who get them currently will now move onto heroin, which is why H deaths are up 3x fold in the past 5 years or something insane like that. But atleast it could curb the usage of people who weren't already addicted to opiods.

there was an article in the LA times this weekend about this....

"The number of prescriptions Santiago was writing wasn’t merely high. It was jaw-dropping. Many doctors would go their entire careers without writing a single 80s prescription. Santiago doled out 26 in a day."

article says one 80 is like 16 Vicodin in terms of strength

good read:

Most of the time I knew that the more I did the less it works so I kept myself in check. I had a pain doctor giving me huge bottles of norco and percoset. Liver concerns and the thougjt that what if I was suddenly cut off or ran out then what ? Did heroin one time with a girlfriend who got hooked. Tell you the truth I loved it but the next day just said who is kidding who I would never teach myself to shoot myself up and thought it was just way too much to go through. Girlfriend kicked but then got on meth so I have her the boot

Ain't that the truth. Saw a duck the other day by Target waddling along with some ducklings and of course some lady had her phone out recording the stupid duck along the sidewalk.
What did that duck do to you? Must've been kinda smart to actually use the sidewalk, especially in a busy parking lot full of cars at Target.

My guess is crime rates will continue to drop as people will be too busy catching pokemon, to commit crimes.
