My Analysis
Going to lay a little wood tonight.
I love dogs. Always feel the value of the number favors underdogs. Road dogs are fine. Home dogs are even better.
With that being said, I am not opposed to laying points either and one of the biggest situations I look for when laying chalk happens tonight.
A good team goes on the road and gets flat out embarrassed. They just didn't have it.
They now return home, ready to get back after it and they are facing a team they just beat on the road above the number they are laying tonight.
I give you the Loyola/Chicago Ramblers.
Drew Valentine's kids took to the road against the St.Louis Billikens last Saturday winners of 5 in a row SU and ATS.
As a 2-point underdog they got absolutely destroyed trailing by 20 at the half and the 2nd half got no better in the 31-point loss 98-67.
They allowed the Billikens to shoot 58% from the floor, 53% from deep and put them at the line 28 times, of which they made 24.
Valentine said after the game, "There are games every year where it's just not there."
They now return home where they have lost just once all year long: January 4th against VCU, where the Rams beat them 84-65.
That is all folks.
This Ramblers team has won all 7 conference games since, covering their last 5.
It was February 1st (+1') over St.Joes 58-55. February 4th (-3) they blew out St.Bonny 77-53. Next up February 14th (-2') took down the Billikens 78-69.
A week later (+1') beat Dayton 76-62 then last Wednesday (-5) destroyed George Washington 77-57.
Now the rematch of the February 18th meeting at Davidson, where Loyola, as a 2 1/2 point road chalk, handled their business 77-69.
The Ramblers outrebounded the Wildcats 42-34 while holding the home team to 38% from the floor and 28% from behind the arc.
Off that loss, Davidson won at Fordham 80-69 before coming home last Tuesday and losing a heartbreaker to St.Louis 57-56.
Perhaps a little hung over from that game, they went into VCU last Friday and got absolutely blown out 80-56.
Don't look now, but Davidson is now 1-4 both SU and ATS their last 5.
With the Ramblers having won 3 in a row both SU and ATS in this series, I will be absolutely shocked if they come out and deliver the double digit win.
Lay it with confidence tonight.
