Hard to blame the president solely on the rising deficits. Most of the increased costs comes from mandatory spending that was put into the federal budget long before 2008/9 (Part D of Medicare anyone? Hmmmm, who was president in 2005?) And, as I hope you know, the executive branch doesn't have unilateral control to determine federal spending; Congress passed these annual budgets along with a presidential signature. And while democrats have called for increased discretionary spending for non-defense programs, Rs have as well on the defense side. Not to mention Rs were the primary force behind the tax extenders package passed in December, which added hundreds of billions of dollars to the national debt over the next ten years.
It is such a funny coincidence that comments about who controls spending, Democrats took control of Congress in January 2007 and ran up spending furiously through January 2011, only come about when a Democrat is President.
Of course I'm sure you were all over the Internet tamping down this "Bush debt!!" comments from left wingers...
