never loan the Government money

I can't argue with the logic behind that concept but it is sort of a ritual thing about getting that tax refund. I won't even argue the point with mental midgets, I'm fine with over paying and getting a refund instead of owing the IRS monies your not prepared to pay
You don't have to micro manage it to point of getting a zero liability/refund expectation, better to overpay a bit and get a small refund.

Different story if you make 60k and average 8k as a refund, clearly some room to rethink that, if it's like a few hundred bucks refund or owed, you done good, Edith, as Archie Bunker would say

As I slowly edge into becoming a senior citizen, I've learned when to abandon a pointless argument, not yet perfected but always in my mind

I see a lot of people's opinions on this thread and i dont think anyone is wrong about paying or owing.

Sure when you get a refund, all you are doing is getting back the 0% interest that you loaned the govt. However, some people feel more comfortable getting money back, pay more to the govt, and not be stressed about writing a check come April. Some people would rather owe in April and leave money aside for taxes. Different strokes for different folks.

I dont file my taxes until September every year. When I get a refund, i usually just apply to next years taxes just to pay taxes in. I'll even send $$ with my extension if i feel that i need to just to avoid penalties.

If I am going to sit with xxxx in my bank account, i'd rather the government hold it just so I dont have to pay interest and penalties. Should I keep that $$ aside and put into a savings account and earn interest? 100% i should. I just dont

Kids under 17 are pretty big this year, with a $ 2,000 credit phased out at much higher incomes than the $ 1,000 credit was. Many people never got to utilize the $ 1,000 credit, but almost all get the $ 2,000 credit now.

The downfall for many thus far as been a significant decrease in taxes withheld, turning big refunds into small refunds and small refunds into liabilities

I am seeing the same. Many from high tax states are very unhappy as well. Many sales people that have employers that cap mileage or don't reimburse expenses also getting rammed.

I said it was the smart thing to do? You will have to show me where I said that.

It's a matter of preference. Trolls out in force just desperate for something to argue about today.
oh, you did it cause you thought it was the dumb thing to do?

is that bad? ...an 18 % increase, with UE BELOW 5%?..............is this level of incompetence even possible? US on pace for its largest deficit since 2011.

(haven't vetted these numbers....kinda like bar graphs, not sure why....)

an oldie but just mother fucking awesome, summer of 2018. Not sure if the chap is still employed by US govt (dont follow much..)?

I agree with this 100%. I once would pay quarterly on my expected K1. Now I just take the estimated amount and put in a money market account. The money is there, but not in the government hands. I guess it's just a principle thing for me.

It's not a *principle*. It's simply smarter use of your dollars. Even just a couple points per annum is a strong example of using The Slight Edge.

Employees' (I know you are an employer) most significant financial disadvantage is having the bulk of their income tax taken up front. Employers like us do not pay income tax until the back end

Unreimbursed expenses are no longer deductible. Along with broker fees
wow, I had no idea that changed. Sales people using their car for work can not write any of it off? that seems crazy to me, what am I missing? So even like Uber drivers and the like aren't able to write stuff off?

This makes no sense.

No shit, he said on “their” paychecks. When I owned a business, I didn’t write myself paychecks. I was the owner. Guys a idiot. His lies are so obvious but he believes them

Uber drivers file a schedule c for business income and can deduct all business expenses.

They removed all miscellaneous itemized deductions that were subject to the 2% AGI threshold.

Doesn't really impact that many people and this is coming from someone who has prepared thousands of tax returns

My deductions went from $42K in 2017 to $24K in 2018. With the elimination of the exemptions too, it's costing me $1200 in state and almost $4000 in Federal. First year in forever I owed something to both. You think people are complaining now, just wait til April. It's going to be a total shit show watching the White House try to defend it.
