Keep on eye on that Ray attendance

Boy, that attendance will certainly be mighty when the Rays cruise into the postseason. Watch out Red Sox, because the Rays are taking the AL East.

Rays sign Vanilla Ice to help save season

The Tampa Bay Rays are still having trouble putting fannies in seats this season, but it's not for a lack of trying. The hometown heroes have been in — or at least close to (stupid Yankees …) — first place all season.

Their postgame Saturday concerts have featured Dierks Bentley, John Fogerty and Nelly. And now the club has announced three free Friday postgame shows that should get people talking...or, um, chuckling.

Tantric, the Louisville band that plays Down and Out, Evan Longoria's screechy, violin-y "walk-up" song, will rock the Trop on June 25 after the Rays-Diamondbacks tilt.

Vanilla Ice, newly revitalized thanks to Ice Ice Baby getting mad love on Glee, comes to town July 9 for the Rays-Indians brouhaha. (Stop smirking. You've totally checked out the hook while the DJ revolved it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have Polaroids of you doing just that.)

And one of my favorite groups of all time, Los Lobos, will unleash the wolves of East L.A. after the Rays demolish the Yankees on July 30.

For the record, I am totally in favor of the Rays buying my affections via rock 'n' roll. And if I might add: Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp love playing baseball stadiums. Just saying …

I agree plus it is no longer the name of a fish like was intended.

Guess the bible belt extends over there. How about The Jesus Rays? On the east coast they could have The Moses Marlins.

@) good one. It truly is ridiculous the Ray's felt pressure to change their name.

Does S. Florida support any of its teams well? Nationally, all you ever hear is how terrible the attendance is for regular-season Marlins, Dolphins, Heat, Panthers and even Hurricanes games.

Seems like it's South Beach vs. Sports down there and South Beach is the perrenial winner.

its all bandwagon down here, if the teams doing really well they all jump on, if not they can care less. There are still die hard Dolphins and Hurricane fans here but heat and marlins depend on the trendiness.
