RACE #10 - SARATOGA RACE COURSE - 5:48 PM EASTERN POST
The Coaching Club American Oaks Stakes
9.0 FURLONGS DIRT GRADE I THREE YEAR OLD FILLIES $300,000.00 PURSE

#2 ABEL TASMAN
#3 DADDYS LIL DARLING
#7 SALTY
#1 ELATE

Well folks ... this race which was inaugurated in 1917, the Coaching Club American Oaks is named in honor of the Coaching Club of America, for which a requisite for membership was the ability to handle a coach and four horses with a single group of reins. August Belmont II set the original conditions to emulate the Epsom Oaks (now the Epsom Derby) in England. Here in the 101st renewal of this Grade I Stakes Test, #2 ABEL TASMAN is the overall speed and pace profile leader in this field, and has hit the board in each of her last five outings, including a trio of "POWER RUN WINS" being embedded in this recent streak of racing consistency. Gutsy Jockey Mike Smith has been in her irons on 3 previous occasions, hitting the board in each, winning twice, en route to a +345% return on investment in the process, and Smith is back today here at "The Spa" for his fourth ride, gunning for a "Hat Trick Win!" #3 DADDYS LIL DARLING, a 9-2 shot, also has a nice pace profile, and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in three of her last five starts.

Monmouth Park - Race #5 - Post: 2:50pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,300 Class Rating: 67

Rating: 4

#3 VALENTINO'S DAY (ML=2/1)

VALENTINO'S DAY - Ran in the last race against a much better field at Monmouth Park. The move down the class ladder should suit him well. I am keen on that latest outing on July 7th at Monmouth Park where he ran third.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 REDEEMABLE (ML=7/2), #1A ROGUE WARRIOR (ML=7/2), #5 TREVINO (ML=7/2),

REDEEMABLE - One should normally not play a entrant in the next run after finishing off the board following a long turnout. This horse hasn't been close in either of his last two races. ROGUE WARRIOR - When looking at today's class rating, he will have to garner a better speed figure than last time around the track to battle in this dirt route. TREVINO - Hard to play at 7/2 odds after the two most recent showings.

Top Hat GUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - VALENTINO'S DAY - Betting the equine with the best last race speed figure is a good angle. None higher than this gelding's last one.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 1 CONQUEST BIG E 5/2

# 2 VERY VERY STELLA 10/1

# 6 MYLUTE 4/1

CONQUEST BIG E looks very strong to best this field. Posted a very good speed figure last time out. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this gelding. VERY VERY STELLA - Has formidable early lick and will probably fare soundly against this group. Earned a quite good Equibase Speed Fig last time out. MYLUTE - Formidable average speed figures in dirt route races make this racer a key contender. In this field, this one is at the top in earnings per start in dirt route contests.

Arlington - Race #3 - Post: 2:34pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 86

Rating: 3

#2 KHATUN (ML=8/5)
#3 TINDERELLA (ML=10/1)
#6 DR WINN KYI (ML=8/1)

KHATUN - Entered a $20,000 Claiming race at Arlington in the last race and raced on the soft turf finishing fifth. Expect better in this race. You don't need to look any further. This pony has my dough. Way too much early speed. TINDERELLA - It looks like Hernandez had to 'know' this filly on Jun 16th when riding her for the initial time. Back aboard again today. Hernandez and Hellman perform well when they unite. It's hard to beat a +68 ROI for a jockey and trainer. DR WINN KYI - Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this campaigner is up against an easier field than last time out at Arlington. The rider and trainer combination have a lucrative ROI when they join forces. This filly is in good form. Finished third on Jun 30th. A repeat of that latest race on Jun 30th where she recorded a fig of 86 looks high enough to score in this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 NOOK (ML=7/5), #1 MILLIONDOLLARHIWAY (ML=6/1), #4 AMERICAN MERLOT (ML=8/1),

NOOK - This mare is always in the mix, but just doesn't get the job done. Difficult to play her on the front end. MILLIONDOLLARHIWAY - Awfully hard to bet on this racer when she hasn't been showing any signs of life lately. AMERICAN MERLOT - Hard to put any dough on this mare on the front end. Likes to finish in the money though. Awfully difficult to wager on this vulnerable equine when she hasn't been showing any fighting spirit of late.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - KHATUN - Playing the top earnings per start entrant is an angle which won't steer you wrong in the long run. I'm betting on this one.

The Walker Group Picks

# 4 MR POLAR EXPRESS 8/5

# 1 NIGHT FISHN 9/2

# 2 GEORGIES MAY KITTY 5/2

My pick in this competition is MR POLAR EXPRESS. Should best this group here, showing solid figures of late. With Phillips uptop him, this gelding will almost certainly be able to break out sharply here. Could beat this field given the 65 Equibase speed fig put up in his last outing. NIGHT FISHN - Could provide positive gains based on decent recent speed figures with an average of 52. Could wake up with Lasix change (on Lasix) today. GEORGIES MAY KITTY - Ought to come out very strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved promptly to the front end recently. No strangers to the winner's circle, Broadstock and Castillo ought to have this filly breaking away from the field.

#MLB Free Pick from Mike Lundin
Play: Over
Rating: 5/10*

The first two games of this series have been high-scoring with a total of 30 runs scored. Both games went to extra-innings so we'll see a pair of taxed bullpens today. I think we'll see plenty of runs again in the finale Sunday afternoon.

Dinelson Lamet (3-4, 6.40 ERA) takes the ball for the Padres. The 25 year old rookie is 1-3 with an 8.59 ERA in five road starts and has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) through eight innings of work in his last two, at Cleveland and Colorado.

The Giants hand the ball to Ty Blach (6-5, 4.36 ERA) who has pitched alright lately, but here he'll face a Padres team that has been very productive at the plate since the All Star break.

Over is 7-0-1 in Padres last eight overall. Over is 7-1-2 in Giants last 10 overall. Over is 4-0-1 in the last five head-to-head meetings.

MLB | A's vs Mets
Play on: A's +127 at 5Dimes

Oakland has banged out 10 or more hits in its last three games. The A's are 4-4 in their last eight games with their four defeats during this span coming by a combined five runs. I'll back the A's at a plus price against Rafael Montero and a tired Mets bullpen. Montero is 2-11 in his big league career, including 1-6 this season. He has a 5.40 ERA. Foes are batting .320 against Montero when he's been a starter. The A's are going with Daniel Gossett, who pitched well in his last start giving up three runs in seven innings against the Rays this past Monday. Only once in his seven starts has Gossett walked more than one batter and that was when he walked two hitters. This is far more of a play against Montero, though, than an endorsement of Gossett and an A's bullpen that has gotten much worse since dealing Ryan Madson and Sean Dolittle. I just think the A's are due and in a matchup of two below average starters there's value in taking a plus price.

Play on: Mariners -115 at betonline

Play - Seattle Mariners w/Gallardo vs Cessa (Game 928).

Edges - Mariners: Gallardo 3-0 last three home team starts during July… Yankees: Cessa 2-7 last nine away team starts, and 0-2 vs AL West and 0-2 day team starts this season… With Gallardo off the DL and rounding back into good current form with 14 Ks and 4 BBs his last three starts, we recommend a 1* play on Seattle. Thank you and good luck as always.

MLB | WAS vs ARI
Play on: UNDER 8½ -105

1* Bonus Play under Nationals/Diamondbacks. Runs would appear to be at a premium with these two “studs” squaring off on the mound this evening. The Nationals turn to Stephen Strasburg (10-3, 3.31 ERA) who went seven innings and gave up one run while striking out 11 in a dominating victory over Cincinnati on Monday. The hard-throwing right-hander would go on to record 20 swinging strikes, while also throwing first-pitch strikes to 17 of the 25 batters he faced (note that Strasburg has been at his best on the road this year as well by going 7-1 with a 2.45 ERA.) Arizona counters with Robbie Ray (9-4, 2.97) who gave up two runs over six innings in a victory over the Reds on Tuesday. Previous to that Ray also threw a gem, posting 13 K’s against the Dodgers (to go along with his sharp 2.97 ERA, Ray also has a whopping 145 K’s over 112 innings of work.) As stated off the top, recent form displayed by these starting pitchers suggests that runs will be hard to come by in this one. Consider the under.

GAME: Miami Marlins (44-51) at Cincinnati Reds (40-57)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 23 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cincinnati Reds had a chance to build some momentum following the All-Star break with a 10-game homestand, but it has turned out to be a disastrous stretch. Cincinnati has been hit hard and often while losing eight of its last nine entering the finale of a three-game set against the visiting Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.

J.T. Realmuto belted a pair of two-run homers in Miami's 5-4 victory on Saturday night, the 21st and 22nd blasts surrendered by Reds pitching since the break -- a record for a homestand of under 10 games. Cincinnati also has been outscored 69-25 during the 1-8 slide and will send struggling rookie Sal Romano to the mound to make his fourth major league start on Sunday. Justin Bour is 4-for-8 in the series for the Marlins, who have won seven of their last eight away from home. Veteran right-hander Tom Koehler, seeking his first win in three months, will oppose Romano.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Tom Koehler (1-4, 7.92 ERA) vs. Reds RH Sal Romano (1-2, 7.50)

Koehler is winless in three starts since spending 6 1/2 weeks on the disabled list and remains in search of his first victory since April 23. He escaped with a no-decision last time out versus Philadelphia despite allowing four runs on five innings and pitched five innings of three-run ball in his previous turn at St. Louis. Koehler is 0-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four appearances (two starts) versus the Reds.

Romano followed up his first major league win with a dud in his last outing, permitting six runs on six hits while walking five in four-plus innings against Arizona. The 23-year-old, whose three starts have been spaced out since April, was victorious in his previous turn, giving up two runs and striking out six over five innings at Colorado. Romano has a bloated 2.08 WHIP with 15 hits and 10 walks in 11 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Reds 1B Joey Votto is 3-for-29 since the All-Star break..

2. Marlins RHP A.J. Ramos has converted 19 of 21 save chances.

3. Reds 2B Scooter Gennett is 6-for-15 during a four-game hitting streak.

GAME: Oakland Athletics (43-54) at New York Mets (45-50)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 23 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Mets can match their longest winning streak of the season when they wrap up a three-game interleague set with the visiting Oakland Athletics on Sunday. A walk-off homer by Wilmer Flores capped a rally from five runs down and gave the Mets a dramatic 6-5 win Saturday - their fourth victory in a row.

They are 5-2 against American League teams, 9-4 in their last 13 home games and 10-5 all time against the Athletics. Jay Bruce also went deep in New York's win and he has reached the 25-homer mark for the seventh time in his last eight seasons. Oakland received homers from Matt Joyce and Matt Chapman in building its early 5-0 lead but the club had just four hits after the third inning while falling to 15-31 on the road. The A's turn to rookie Daniel Gossett in the series finale opposite Rafael Montero for the Mets.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (Oakland), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Daniel Gossett (1-5, 5.79 ERA) vs. Mets RH Rafael Montero (1-6, 5.40)

Gossett has lost three straight decisions but the latest came in his longest start in the majors, as he allowed three runs in seven innings of a 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay on Monday. He has been hurt by the long ball, allowing 10 homers in 37 1/3 innings, but walked just six batters through his first seven outings. The 24-year-old's major-league debut on June 14 was his only interleague outing and he was rocked for six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings at Miami.

Montero dropped to 2-11 in his career despite allowing two earned runs in six innings against St. Louis his last time out. He has 26 strikeouts and no home runs allowed in 24 2/3 innings as a starter this year but opponents are hitting .320 against him in that role. Montero has never faced Oakland and is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in four games (two starts) during interleague play.

WALK-OFFS

1. Oakland is 2-10 against National League teams.

2. Flores has homered in consecutive games after going 16 straight without leaving the yard.

3. Mets 3B Jose Reyes is batting .370 over his last 20 games.

GAME: Texas Rangers (47-50) at Tampa Bay Rays (51-47)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 23 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Elvis Andrus looks to continue tormenting the Tampa Bay Rays when the visiting Texas Rangers go for a sweep of their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Andrus, who came into the series in a 2-for-33 slump, had six hits in the first two games to improve to 14-for-23 with three homers and 10 RBIs on the season versus the Rays while pushing his lifetime batting average to .331 against them.

The Rangers rallied to win the opener 4-3 on Friday and came back from a three-run deficit Saturday to win by the same score with the help of Andrus’ solo blast in the fourth inning and three unearned runs in the sixth, along with solid pitching. Tyson Ross gets the start for Texas while Tampa Bay hopes to avoid the sweep and its fourth consecutive loss overall through fellow right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who is a dazzling 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in five career games against the Rangers. The Rays hold down one of the two wild-card spots in the American League, but have dropped five of their last eight games at home. Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria has been a force in July with his aggressiveness, going 21-for-62 with 12 RBIs in 16 contests while not drawing one walk.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Tyson Ross (2-2, 7.22 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (6-4, 4.37)

Ross was pounded on Tuesday in his first start after the All-Star break at Baltimore when he allowed nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old California native has struggled with control in his first six starts of the season, recording 16 walks in 28 2/3 innings with 22 strikeouts. Corey Dickerson is 5-for-14 with two homers versus Ross, who is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Rays.

Odorizzi produced his best start in two months after coming out of the All-Star break Monday at Oakland, permitting just a solo homer in seven strong innings. The 27-year-old Illinois native hopes to match his performance from after the All-Star break last season when he went 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA in 14 starts (83 innings). Andrus (2-for-11) and Adrian Beltre (2-for-9) have struggled against Odorizzi, who has given up at least one homer in 14 straight contests.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay RF Steven Souza Jr., who was back in the starting lineup Saturday after pinch-hitting in the series opener, has hit safely in six straight games.

2. Beltre boasts a four-game hitting streak after notching an infield single Saturday, pulling him within 13 of becoming the 31st player in major league history to reach 3,000 hits.

3. The Rays announced after the game they have acquired RHP Sergio Romo from the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (44-53) at Cleveland Indians (50-45)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 23 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Mediocre at home and outstanding on the road for the first half of the season, the Cleveland Indians appear to be reversing that trend since the All-Star break. Following a 1-5 road trip against a pair of last-place clubs, Cleveland has a chance for its first home sweep of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set.

Ace Corey Kluber, originally scheduled to pitch the series opener before pushed back to Sunday due to a stiff neck, is 4-1 with 94 strikeouts over 63 1/3 innings since June 1. After the Indians beat up on Toronto 13-3 on Friday, Francisco Lindor provided a dramatic ending 24 hours later with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 10th, giving Cleveland its first walk-off win since the season home opener. The Blue Jays managed only three hits in Saturday's setback, their sixth loss in the last eight games, three coming in extra innings. All-Star Justin Smoak made his 100th hit -- eight shy of his career high -- of the season memorable with a tying homer in the eighth inning, his 27th blast of the year.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVAS (Toronto), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (3-6, 3.55 ERA) vs. Indians RH Corey Kluber (7-3, 2.86)

Happ has not allowed more than three earned runs in his last seven starts, including five innings of two-run ball in a no-decision at Boston on Tuesday. He was knocked around for six runs (two earned) over four innings in his previous outing, which ended a stretch of five consecutive starts with at least six innings pitched. Happ owns a 3-1 record and 2.86 ERA in six appearances (five starts) versus Cleveland.

Kluber surrendered a pair of home runs in an otherwise superb performance against Oakland last time out, when he struck out 12 and did not walk a batter over 7 1/3 innings of three-run ball. It marked the seventh time in nine starts since spending a month on the disabled list that Kluber reached double digits in strikeouts. Kluber has had his struggles against the Blue Jays with a 1-3 record and 5.34 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Smoak is 12-for-26 with four homers and eight RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak.

2. Indians 3B Jose Ramirez is 6-for-11 over the past three games.

3. Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki sat out Saturday's game due to soreness in his groin. He is day-to-day.

PREDICTION: Indians 4, Blue Jays 2
