TOMMY BRUNSON

Not just your normal Pittsburgh-Cleveland AFC North clash this time around. For one thing, the Steelers have been big-time distracted with the hold-out of Le'Veon Bell and his contract demands, for another, the Browns are this season's "chic" team thanks to their cable TV appearance on "Hard Knocks" this season.

One thing for sure though, I do not see the scoring adding up to an Over at First Energy Stadium in the season opener. Especially with the field likely to be under water from the rain that is falling in Cleveland all day today.

The Browns allowed no more than 19-points in any of their 4 preseason games last month, as 3 of their 4 practice games held Under the total.

The Steelers did their fair share of scoring and allowing points too, but that is Mike Tomlin's preseason MO, so I won't put too much stock in those results. Instead, I will take Pittsburgh's 8-0-1 Under mark their last 9 road games out for a test drive today. Included is an Under last September in their series meeting in Cleveland. That puts the Under at 5 in a row in series games played in Cleveland between the division rivals. The Under is also 8-3 now the last 11 times these teams have played.

Throw in the Steelers having played Under in each of their last 5 September games, and the Brownies 11-2 Under run their last 13 games played at home, and we have the recipe for a Week One Under.

Steelers-Browns land Under one more time on Cleveland's field.

Interestingly, the Niners lose Jerrick McKinnon to an ACL injury at the end of the preseason, and the line on this game at Minnesota doesn't move at all?!?!

That has my "spidey senses" tingling!

San Francisco ended last season on a 5 game win and cover streak with their new franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo under center, as Jimmy G is now a perfect 7-0 in the NFL when he starts - went 2-0 for New England with Tom Brady sidelined.

You know what they say? All good things gotta come to an end, and that perfect run comes to an end in Minny today as the Vikings open the season with their new franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins under center for his first real start as a Norseman.

Minnesota made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game last January before getting humiliated at Philadelphia, but they have been a money play at home where they are 15-4-2 against the spread when laying points since 2015. They have also covered 10 of their last 11 regular season games at U.S. Bank Stadium, and they have also covered in 14 of their last 15 as a non-division home favorite.

The Vikings defense will be up for the cause as they look to hand Garoppolo his first loss as a pro starter.

Minnesota to take care of business in Kirk Cousins' debut.

Tampa Bay started their preseason with wins and covers in their first two games, but reality set in there after, as the Bucs were on the short side in their last 2 preseason affairs. Now the season begins for real, and it begins with their starting quarterback, Jameis Winston suspended for the opening 3 weeks of the year.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a steady veteran, but he is no Drew Brees.

Bress and the Saints are on a mission after getting stunned in their divisional playoff game up in Minnesota last January - no need to rehash that here - and this home opener should see New Orleans and their rowdy home crowd dancing the "Who 'Dat" dance in the aisles of the Superdome all afternoon long.

The host in this series is 4-0 both straight up and against the spread the past 2 seasons. New Orleans has won outright in 7 of the past 10 NFC South matchups, and they have covered in 5 of the last 7 series games contested in the Big Easy. Sean Payton's teams has also covered in each of their last 5 division regular season home games since last year.

New Orleans has been talked about as one of the teams to watch out of the NFC this season, and against a Tampa Bay team that looks like it will be the cellar-dweller of the South Division, things will be joyous - they normally are anyway - on Bourbon Street after this game is final.

Saints by a comfortable 17-points.

Seahawks vs. Broncos
Broncos-3

Expectations are quite low for these two former division rivals after years of success. Football bettors are having even less to start the season on Seattle, who's up from +1.5 to +3. I really wanted to back the Seahawks, but I cannot overlook the fact they are 2-11 ATS in September road games under Pete Carroll.

Redskins vs. Cardinals
Cardinals-1½

This game features the Washington Redskins and the Arizona Cardinals. Redskins are 0-4 in season openers under Jay Gruden and I don't see that getting any better this Sunday. Sam Bradford's health is the key for the Arizona Cardinals and he is ready to go and so is the best running back in football ready to make his return in David Johnson this guy can change games by himself. Adrian Peterson makes his firs start for the Skins but in IMO he's washed up and has little value. Arizona is 9-4 SU in it's last 13 games at home versus the Redskins. Love the Cardinals minus the points for a 15* winner this afternoon.

Steelers vs. Browns
Browns+5

Steelers/Browns 1:00: Browns had a complete overhaul in their roster from a year ago and ready to grab some wins. Value with the Browns here on their home turf against a Steelers team that still needs holes filled. RB Bell still not signed so Conner will carry the load. And the Browns' defense looked respectable in pre-season with Miles Garrett healthy on the edge. Browns' offense should put some points on the board today with former Steelers' OC Haley ready to stick it to his old boss. He should find a way for QB Taylor to dissect a Steelers' defense that doesn't have an adequate replacement for mike linebacker Shazier. Steelers 2-5 ATS in Week 1 and should find a competitive Browns team ready to stop the bleeding.
