Adam Wainwright said his arm feels "amazing" this spring, which might have something to do with the fact that an Achilles injury limited him to just 28 innings last year. At 34, he has thrown roughly half as many major-league innings as CC Sabathia, who is one year older.

Can confirm that the Tigers have signed infielder Casey McGehee to a minor-league deal. Team likes the idea of adding organizational depth at third base. Said manager Brad Ausmus: "We could use a third baseman, quite frankly ... And he's got major-league experience." 33-year-old split time last year between Miami and San Francisco Giants

Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera said his goal is to play 160 games this season. He laughed, but if healthy, not completely out of the realm of possibility. In 2014, he played 159. In 2012, he played 161. Team will want to spell him occasionally in the interest of keeping him fresh, but everyone seems encouraged that he is in good health to start the season.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, 35, said he wants to play until he is 40. It is in serious question if he will be able to do it with the Yankees. Teixeira is in the final season of his seven-year, $180 million contract. The Yankees have lefty hitting Greg Bird in the on-deck circle, but Bird's development has been complicated by a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The injury is expected to keep Bird out for the season.
