You can't ban the guys that didn't test positive. Who is to judge who was on them and who wasn't? Who is to say A-Rod isnt on them? What about Ichiro? Taking roids doesnt guarantee you will hit 50 bombs - or gain 50 pounds for that matter.

Hi Everyone, I am new here.

I have been a Cubs fan my entire life and I will remember Sammy as the guy that put some spice in our team. After Andre Dawson retired we never really had a slugger or someone to put you in the edge of your seat til Sammy came along.
He is guilty of taking steroids as many also were, but he made baseball more exciting and filled stadiums, like someone mentioned earlier.
I always felt kind of bad that he never won the Home Run race even when hitting 60+ like 3 seasons in a row.

Cheers all.

As a longtime fan of the Little Rangers, we'll always remember Sosa as being the guy who was traded at age 20 (along with fellow 19 year old Wilson Alvarez) to the Chicago White Sox in late July for HAROLD BAINES.

This blocked what could have been a Texas outfield starting in 1992 of Juan Gonzalez, Ruben Sierra (remember when he was force?) and Sosa.

I dont get it, weren't steroids legal for everyone to use until just recently? The Viejo Dinosaur is right again! Wow, twice in one week - a new record!

In respect to the hall of fame, his numbers are there, he belongs, no question. I would even argue that Pete Rose belongs. Imfamy is fame! and it is a very important and fascinating part of Baseball history. As well as Shoeless Joe, Kid Gleason, Happy Felsch, and the rest of the 1919 Black Sox, Not condoning their actions but they belong. After all they didn't remove Nixons picture from the White House. They don't exclude Hitler from German (or world) history books ---

Should Sammy retire???? I would like to see him play for 500 dimes - hit 40 and say C-ya

If Sammy retires, fine....he has enough money and fame to live happily
ever after.....He did bring countless memories to Cubs fans everywhere
and to other fans, especially those in the Dominican. The same will happen to Bonds when he retires. I just don't think steroids is that big of an issue.

Best memory of Sammy by far has to do with his HR chase with McGwire, when he hit 66.

Overall, though, my thoughts of him aren't positive. Something scummy about a cheater who continually and adamently denies wrong doing. Very Raffy-esque. At least McGwire has a conscience and is in obvious pain about his past performance enhancement. You get the feeling that with Sammy, on the other hand, any apology or admission would come with crocodile tears and confusion as to why people think what he did was wrong.

I know, he's never tested positive for anything but cork. But an innocent guy would have taken one of the many opportunities he had to give a voluntary sample. Absence of a conclusive positive steroid test is a mere formality. Wish I was wrong.

Tooran, I see your point, but wait till other sports such as the NBA and NHL
get hit wit steroid problems. There are countless athletes who haven't been
detected yet as well as this years winter olympics.Yes, steroids make some
athletes perform better, but in most cases not. We just hear about the stars.

Very true about the NHL and NBA. As for Olympics, with them being the pioneers of drug testing and having the most rigid standards on all types of drugs (cough medicine? come on), it's shocking that so many athletes get busted every Olympics. Ben Johnson was so juiced his eyes turned yellow, and he didn't think he'd get caught?

Regarding the idea that steroids do not make atheletes better in 'most' cases, that's an interesting premise. I've never even considered that some athletes take steroids and don't improve their game. Like you said, we never hear about those cases. Any examples?

True, but who knows how crappy they were as players before they took steroids? I was wondering if there were any testimonials from players who said that roids worsened their ability/career. Not sure there are too many
