The only reason Soriano is able to make a living wage, let alone millions, is because we, the fans, pay his salary because we care about our teams and want them to win. It is our belief, probably completely erroneous, that they want to win for us. It's a team sport, just suck it up and do what your team needs right now. You got traded, big deal, it goes along with the territory of being a pro athelete. Do what you are told and earn your money. The free agent market is not going to punish someone if they played out of position to help their team win. Or quit and go make slurpees at a gas station for 7 bucks an hour.

If Soriano "refuses" to play outfield, then the Nationals should have no problem "refusing" to pay his salary.

Very happy to see Soriano go. Ian Kinsler will be a major upgrade defensively and is showing every sign of being capable with the bat.

Soriano has always been very immature, but I'd definitely fault the nationals for this one. They really ham fisted this one...

whether you think this is right or wrong move by soriano, this is a completely stupid ass move by the Nats. They should've never traded for this guy as they knew BEFORE day 1 that he did not want to move to the OF.

I would also be willing to wager that if they told JOSE VIDRO to move to the OF that he would demand a trade immediately as well!

The guy did say that he wasn't going to play left field. The manager is a jackass for penciling him into the lineup knowing full well he wasn't going out into the field. I am not saying I agree with Soriano, but he is only doing what he said he would do. They called his bluff and found out he wasn't bluffing. If the guy insists he isn't an outfielder then why push the envelope?

Did he sign a contract? If he didn't then no problem here. He did and he needs to abide by the signed agreement. I can understand his position here, but it is not much of a position if his contract didn't specify player demands such as this....

Get out in the field and hustle your ass off. Then the next contract you have made up, make sure you include your demands as a player. tulsa

Soriano had no choice in what he made this year...he was arbitration eligible and his contract was decided by an arbiter and he had to abide by what they decided for him....He lost that case and still made the most money ever through arbitration (10 million). I also believe this was done before he was even traded or while he was in the process of being traded this winter. I'm on soriano's side actually in all this...it's not about money.....and again, i bet a lot that if they asked jose vidro to play OF that he would also say F-U, trade me now.

Then he doesn't need to be paid and he gets to stand on principle and the Nationals get to save money they were paying to get a ball player. All is right with the world.

viking, I am with you as long as you agree that there is no way anyone needs to pay someone that isn't doing their job (within reasonable requests.) Requesting someone to play out field is within reason. So, if you agree that Soriano can do what he is doing but it is also ok that he not get paid a penny then we are together on this. More power to him. tulsa

i'm okay with them putting him on DQ list and not paying him. I've stated whether anyone thinks this is right or wrong with Soriano is not the point....the NATS should've never traded for him in the 1st place!

I am not sure that requiring an infielder to play outfield is a "reasonable" request. If you worked in sales at a car lot and they requested that you work in the autoshop would that be "reasonable"? It may be apples and oranges but not from his line of thinking.

many teams would take soriano in a heartbeat...trade him for some great young talent to build your future on...this guy would be gone in a year anyway so get what you can out of him since you traded 3 players for him. easy for outsiders to say fuck him, he's conceded, etc... and not pay him...the NATS should've never made the deal in the 1st place...atleast go get a quality arm or 2 out of him.

Never say die. GO NATS!

And I'm too bitter about this punk bitch to comment. I can't stand selfish players...and the fact that he doesn't realize how much he sucks at 2B yet refuses to work on his craft pisses me off even more. No dedication to defense whatsoever.

But uh, maybe we'll have another miracle summer. LETS GO NATS

What? LOL!! Here is an unreasonable request: Soriano, could you make sure that after you hit the ball that you make sure the bat hits the umpire in the head! That is unreasonable. Soriano, could you please fob a fly ball while you are out in left field since I have the Brewers ML. That is unreasonable. Soriano, could you drive the team bus and unload all the bags for us when we get to the stadium. That is probably unreasonable.

Get out in left field? that is far from unreasonable.

If you work at a dealership as a salesman and the big boss comes by and asks that you get to the shop and clean up an oil spill...that may seem unreasonable but it's well within his right to ask and well within your right to quit.... However, if you want to keep your job, then it doesn't seem so unreasonable all of a sudden.

I'm happy that soriano would not go into the field. I am also happy that the nationals never have to pay him for not acting on a request to play baseball. It's pretty basic to me. tulsa

Again tulsa...does this make much sense? Trade 3 players for a player you want to sit and not pay?? Should've never made the deal and should look to deal him to someone else and get some great young talent for him!
