holy cow...Sounds like you need to start using and/or associating with more ethical people

My father is a retired attorney and my younger sister and younger brother both long time corporate attorneys - all with a very high level of ethics. And of course that's just three examples.
Wasn't my attorney that pulled that underhanded bullshit.

they also call for police, fireman, veterans. all get around 15% of the actually funds raised

Attorneys.
Most unethical people that ever walked the planet Earth.

I will second that.

How can these guys defend a person that they know is guilty?

I will never forget after the OJ trial, I think it was Shipiro that came out and said that OJ probably was guilty, but the justice system gave him his day in court.

Scum bags.

If they don't add any value, then why do you continue to retain and pay for their services?

I have 3 different business's. I have over 600 customers, All with contracts, it doesn;t seem to matter. 10% of my customers cause me 90% of my problems. They break contracts, machines get broke and they think nothing of it. So I give them a bill for 10,000.00 and they laugh. We'll if you let 1 customer get away with it then everyone trys to get over. So I tell them, it might cost me 5000.00 out of my pocket but I;ll have you're ass in court spending money on lawyers until you've paid them 10,000.00 worth of legal fee's. Most of the time even with contracts it a break even deal and with the lawyers fee's that are outrageous and it doesn't matter which one you hire, they all drag the shit out for more billable hours.
So I guess in the end its all about the pride factor and shoving it up someone's ass cause you know you're right. Lawyers as a collective group are no better than used car salesmen. So to answer you're question if I wasn't paying them just to hopefully break even I'd really be screwed,

Seems like you may know the only 3 out there. You're out numbered on this one. Corporate attorneys pushing paper and lying. Court room attorneys pushing paper and lying to you're face. You know what they say about 1000 attorneys at the bottom of the river.

A GOOD START

Well then it sounds like they do add value because you choose to use them.

Maybe you as a business owner need to learn to do a better job of screening and weeding out those 10% before they cause so much trouble. Not the attorneys' fault that you get into a mess.

Bar: A rather fascinating business strategy. So the guy jacks you for $10,000 and even if you don't have a chance of recovery, you'll flush another $5,000 down the rat hole?

And this is happening at least 60 times if in fact "10% of my "600 customers" cause all the problems.

60 times paying $5,000 to lawyers in a fruitless effort that does not retreive your lost $10,000.

I'm guessing your business future is dimming quickly at that pace.
