Tonights game started around 8:20 EDT. One of todays game is the game that is being discussed.

quote:
The book was being nice taking the bet. I don't think they would of cancelled had you won.

Im not so sure about that now MFG.

quote:
Yeah, we are a tough crowd, but weve been made tough, not born tough. I think you yourself, Cuban, realized that it was the bet you wanted and it simply lost, and hopefully accept it as such, however, we have had so many people come and cry foul over something which we have no sympathy for. I understand the rules are there but we do as much as we can to accomodate the customers needs. Like I said, I left that Florida game up for a bit and just kept an eye out for anything or anyone trying something funny. We do that because we want you, the customer to like that extra step but we dont appreciate when something like this comes up. Its just done as courtesy, not a way to screw anyone out of money.

Im sure at some point we have all said to a clerk, come on man, please let me take the bet, I know the game kicked off but they only ran it back to the 20 or something like that...

We ve just grown an extra row of teeth, sharper ones, around here, for situations like these.

As you can see though, the opinion is shared almost all around.

Good luck with the rest of your wagers

Slim you left that game up to see if someone would try something funny. Who is that may I ask? Would you have paid on this bet had it won. Come on man make this thing right. Its not the money. Its only the right thing to do.

The book did not leave the game up to see if someone would try something funny, they left it up to ACCOMODATE their customers. Most of the customers that are trying to place a bet want their bet to stand as long as it was accepted. Your play was accepted and you should be thankful that your book accomodated you and let you place a bet seeing nothing was going on. The book will not cancel a bet on a game that early unless there is something obviously shady going on. This whining about my bet should be cancelled is so pathetic. If the bet had won and was graded a winner you would be calling your book demanding they take the money out of your account.

"The secret of sucess in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes."

if the game won you say nothing and if it loses you say you accidently past posted. if they cancel the wager you say you thought they left it up b/c nothing significant had happened yet. nothing but a win win situation. forgive the skepticism.
but the secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes

Which poses another question WHEN SHOULD A BOOK STOP TAKING ACTION ON A GAME??? iI've been on the phone with a book (on monday night) they have a listed start time of 9:00 et wE ALL KNOW IT DOESNT START TILL AT LEAST 9:10 IM ON THE PHONE SYING i'M LOOKING AT MY TV THE GAMES HASN'T STARTED ETC. bUT AT THE SAME TIME WE KNOW WHEN THE COIN IS FLIPPED WHO IS GONNA GET THE BALL FIRST AN ADVANTAGE TO THE FIRST HALF/ QUARTER BETTOR. aND RIGHT AT GAMETIME IS WHEN MOST BETS ARE MADE AND WHEN MUCH INFO ABOUT STRTING LINE-UPS pITCHERS QB'S ALL THAT IS FOUND. aLSO WHEN BETTING ON LINE, PEOPLE ON SLOW CONNECTIONS NEED A FEW SECONDS LEE WAY FROM THE TIME LOGGING IN, CLICKING A LINE, ACCEPTING THE BET ETC.

CG's posts are a joke.

Why did he place the bet if he knew it was in the bottom of the first?

It's as simple as that.

If you past post you deserve to get screwed! Try to past post a local guy, he;ll bury you, lol! But if you bet a horse race after it starts and some offshore books still have the race posted, it will never be graded as a win or a loss, just a cancelled play! The sportsbook probably wanted to see if they can get more action a certain way and cancelled all action one way and graded it a ceretain way, lol, just kidding! Bottom line is this bet should've been a canceled play either way!

This is a perfect example of why books have an edge. If he took FLa in the Bottom of the first, he was already down to 24 outs and SF was still batting in the first(advantage Book).Second and I agree betting with a local they take bets after games have just started all the time, but they don't call you ever after a game has finished and said no bet, off shore it happens all the time.OFFSHORE Books need to live by the rules they set up.The book knew the game had gone off (this wasn't some third world soccer game), if they were going to accept his bet they should have told him the game had already started but they would take it.I know that would never happen but once again the book put themselves in a no lose situation. OFFSHORES NEED TO STICK TO THEIR OWN RULES OR CHANGE THEM. When ever a client has a complaint the Books always point to their rules in their defense. Once again this is a mass generalization and I have always been able to settle disputes with books without any fighting. For the books own good they need to start sticking by the rules.

The poster is not totally innocent here if he thought the bet should be cancelled he should have called them as soon as he knew the game had already started. If it was me I would have just taken the loss.

If you don't think betting on a game in the bottom of the first is an advantage let me know what book you work for and you can have all my baseball.

THis would be an interesting question if we knew who the book was. Did anyone bet SF at that book when they were at bat in the the first? My guess is they wouldn't have taken the bet.

From time to time, I've noticed that Pinnacle/Canbet will keep the lines up as long as possible. I've bet on games 30-60 seconds after kickoff, opening pitch, etc. Maybe it is a 7pm game, and I *just* got home from work, so I'm placing bets at the last-minute.

For example, if the opening kickoff is a touchback, does that really change the game? Of course not.

Bottom line, you gotta play with books that you trust! When I place a "late" bet with Pinnacle or Canbet, I'm confident they'll honor the bet.

If you're not sure that your book is gonna honor a bet, you shouldn't be playing with them.

Where I work we routinely take action well into the first inning unless there is a score in the game. If the book told you they were taking late action then the play should stand. If there was no score in the game the play should stand, did you know the game was in progress?

That is the ultimate question, if you knew the game had started or were told the game had started the bet should stand. That is something only you can truthfully answer yourself.

Areeff wasnt it you that had a BIG problem with betonsports on some parlay wagers a while back here? You came here to post it because you felt you were right with your problem?? Were your posts a joke? No they were not. Why because it was your money they were taking. Cant you read I didnt know the game had started.. My history with the book shows I dont past post sports bets.

I again ask the question, If there is no advantage to betting on the Home Team in the bottom of the first if the away team hasn't scored then why don't books normally accept those bets? Because over a season you would make a killing, you would be betting on a team with 27 outs against a team with 24 outs.

Cuban:

In your 3rd post of this thread, you wrote " They have canceled other wagers once the game has started. This should not be any different."

Aren't these two statements contradictory ?

-------------------------------

If it's opinions that you're looking for, here's mine:

Many books leave games open past their starting time as a service to their customers, if there is no perceived advantage for the player and/or they are continuing to receive (balanced?) action.

Unless you can show where this book cancelled previous past-posted bets that were placed at a point in the game where you had no advantage over the book, then you have no case.
