Take Kent State (POD) +1 over Temple (Wednesday @ 8pm). Sometimes you just feel it in the air. You just feel that something is up and you have this inkling and this itch. Such is the case about this game. Although roughly 58% are riding Temple here and my initial lean is on Temple, there are a few things that changes your mind. For starters, the public is on Temple. Second of all, anything goes on in the MAC. Kent State remember has revenge from last year when they lost 14-24 on the road. Temple comes off an admirable loss to Navy on the road in OT. Temple beat Miami of Ohio on the road and and lost to Central Michigan on the road by just 10. Kent State comes off a tough loss to Bowling Green on the road as they return home. Temple is 116th in the nation in total offense (97th pass, 112 rush). Temple is also 64th in the nation in defense (54 pass, 79 rush). Kent State is 37th in the nation in offense (96th pass and 11th rush) and 95th in the nation in defense (71th in pass and 99 in rush). In short, with revenge, a clear advantage in offense and a defense that although is statistically weaker but will have a crowd behind it, I like Kent State to get it done here at home. Kent State is 7-3 ATS after allowing 40 points in their previous game.
Take New Orleans Hornets +1 over Los Angeles Lakers (Wednesday @ 8pm). Lakers still remain undefeated. They defeated the Mavs in a come back win yesterday and now go east to play the Hornets. The Hornets of course are rested for this game and ready to give the Lakers their first loss. Over 60% back the Lakers here however. I know the Lakers are undefeated but this is a prime spot for the Hornets to do some damage and make a statement here at home where the crowd will be raucous and ready to go. Lakers are also on a back to back here and although they have depth, the Hornets have been sitting at home waiting for this game. Listen, I know it's not easy to pull the trigger on this game. I understand that. But, the bottom line is that the Lakers are on back to backs here and at some point the bubble has to burst. So, why not here? Why should it not burst with a New Orleans team that is just waiting for the Lakers to come in to make a statement? Why should it not burst with a New Orleans team that is deep, well coached and has plenty of revenge from last year with a crowd that will be rowdy for this game? I'll take the home team to get it done here as I will ride Chris Paul to the bank.
Weber State +12.5. Weber State traditionally is a pretty good program and they are dogged by 12 points here. Heck, at one point they had covered 6 straight games from the Sky Conference and although Miami of Ohio is a good team, I don't know if the spread is reflective of the fact how well Weber State is coached. The bottom line is, I will take Weber State here on a neutral site as this is the 2k Hoops Classic in Pauley Pavillion in Los Angeles, California. Obviously, with Weber State coming out of the Sky, they will have fans far more well traveled than Miami of Ohio of the East Coast and I'd like to think the little known Weber State team that was very competitive for the Sky Conference Championship last year puts up a good fight here and I'll gladly take the double-digit points as I think Weber State likely loses this game by about 6 points. Let's roll.
