MLB: 5/20

Under 9 Runs (-120) Pittsburgh (Maholm) / Washington (Lannan) 7:05 ET 1 Unit

Texas - Detroit 7:05 ET 2 Plays: Risking 1.5 Units/Total
Detroit (Verlander) -1.5 Runs (+150) / Texas (Harrison) 7:05 ET 1 Unit
Parlay: Detroit ML (-155) & Over 9 Runs (+105) Risk 0.5/Unit to win 1.14 Units
These plays revolve around Matt Harrison having a poor outing. Harrison is coming off of 2 complete games and has only allowed 15 hits, 1 walk & 2 runs in his last 3 outings (23 innings of work) for a WHIP of 0.69. Although he's pitching extremely well of late, he's not in the elite tier of starters who are expected to produce every outing so we're expecting the inevitable bad outing tonight. For Detroit tonight, Justin Verlander starts. Verlander also has been pitching extremely well of late and he IS a proven quality starter averaging 15+ wins over his last 3 seasons. So we'll play this one with minimal risk as we stand to make 2.64 units for our 1.5 units risked if we are correct. To simply play Detroit to win the game, we'd have to lay almost 3x as much (4.1 Units to win 2.62 units) which gives us no real value. And if we split our 2 plays, we still come out ahead.

NBA Playoffs: 5/20

Cleveland -8.5 / Orlando 8:30 ET 1.5 Units
Over 184 Orlando / Cleveland 1.5 Units
Lot's of talk about how Orlando stands a legit shot of competing here. On paper it looks feasible, I mean the Magic have beaten the Cavs 7 out of the last 10 (9-1 ATS), but most of those games were PCM (Pre Cavalier Maturation). Throw them out. This is a Cleveland team on a mission and although we don't generally like laying these kind of points, especially in a playoff game, we have a unique advantage in that the Cavs have won 8 playoff games in a row all by double digits, an NBA record. Of course Cleveland will never admit that that's on their minds but come on, you know it is. So it's nice to know that down the stretch in a tight ATS game, the Cavs may not be so quick to lay down which is the cause of a good portion of winning but not covering in this point spread range.

Also, Cleveland is the much more talented team, not only individually but as a team. There is perfect harmony amongst all the players... these guy really do have a special closeness and it shows on the court. They've been in "trouble" several times during the playoffs trailing at times by double digits and have worked out of it each time, and the games they never trailed in they won even bigger. Is there any stopping this team.... we think not. This is the beginning of a dynasty.

The toll that Orlando's recent 7 game series with Boston took is sure to show tonight.Tonight we look for Dwight Howard to continue attacking offensively which is sure to lead to a bit of show boating by LeBron and ultimately open up the game. As the game progresses, fatigue will set in to the Magic which may very well cause them to go completely dead on the defensive end paving the way to a blowout and double digit win #9 in a row for the Cavs...

1000♦ Orlando Magic

Take the Magic plus the points.

No doubt I could make a case for laying the points with the rested Cavaliers who have yet to be tested in the playoffs, but given how profitable Orlando has been in this head to head series over the years I want no part in laying double digits between the two best teams in the east tonight.

The Magic advancing to the conference finals with an easy win at Boston just days ago is not the team Cleveland wanted to be facing in this year’s Eastern Conference playoffs. You see for Orlando they have been a more thorn in the Cavaliers side as the Magic won the regular season series by winning 2 of the 3 games straight up while going a perfect 3-0 ATS, including the most recent meeting where Orlando crushed Cleveland 116-87 as a 3’ point favorite. But the numbers don’t stop there as over the years as Orlando has covered 10 of the last 11 meetings, including a perfect 5-0 ATS mark in their last five trips in Cleveland.

Meanwhile, for Cleveland I see their run of 8 straight double digit playoff wins ending tonight as Orlando is a major step up in competition and a tougher team for Cleveland to match up with due to Howard down low and shooters spread out everywhere.

So while I am not calling for an outright win tonight for Orlando I do expect for the Magic to keep things close and well inside the lofty number.

Take Orlando plus the points!

200♦ Toronto & Boston UNDER the total

On the diamond I look for a low scoring game tonight in Fenway. Having played a low scoring game last night I look for another pitchers dual tonight as Cecil & Penny battle it out on the mound. You see for the Bluejays they might of round magic in the bottle as Cecil has been a huge surprise going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.80 in three starts. Now for Boston they turn to the ever improving Penny who has started to turn things around by lowering his season ERA by almost two runs over his last three starts. Meanwhile, together its Toronto & Boston combining to go under the posted price in 6 of their last 7 combined games heading into tonight and 8 of the last 11 series games dating back to last year. Well given the strong Under treads and the expected pitching duel I see nothing but a low scoring game the stays well under the total.
