Weekend Wipeout Winner (21-5 w/Wipeout Winners since May 6!)

My Weekend Wipeout Winner is on the TB Devil Rays at 7:10 ET. Let me get the bad news out of the way early. The Orioles beat the Devil Rays last night 3-1 and Baltimore has now won 10 of 11 meetings with Tampa Bay this season, including eight in a row. The Orioles are outscoring the Devil Rays 48-22 during the streak while posting a 2.71 ERA. So why am I taking the D'Rays? Baltimore will start lefty Brain Burress who began the year in the bullpen (first six appearances). He's made 12 starts in his last 14 appearances and while he's pitched OK at home (3.86 ERA in five starts), he's allowed 42 hits and 21 ERs over 32.1 innings of seven road starts, for an ERA of 5.85. In his last two road outings, he's lasted just 7.1 innings, allowing 15 hits and 11 ERs (13.50 ERA). Now the D'Rays do own MLB's worst record at 41-67 but they are a different team with Kazmir on the mound. He's been nearly unhittable in three home starts since the break, allowing just one ER in 19 innings (0.47 ERA), as he's 2-0 with the team winning all three. Tampa Bay is 13-10 (.565) with Kazmir on the mound and just 28-57 (.329) with any of the team's other starters pitching. Think that's a one year thing? Think again. Last year, the D'Rays were 13-11 (.542) in Kazmir's starts and 48-90 (.349) in the rest of their games!

5-Unit Play
Atlanta (-1.5, +110) over Colorado (7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4)
Note: This is our Runline of the Week.

The Braves are further out of first place than at any point in the last few months. I see them bringing their A-game today behind Tim Hudson. They’ve won 13 of his 16 starts against the N.L. West and have won his last seven straights. Also, the Braves are 6-0 when he has an extra day of rest. Colorado won Game 1 behind Jeff Francis, but they are still 31-71 on the road against a team with a winning record and 4-10 as a road dog. Colorado does not play well in Atlanta, winning just three times in their last 13 trips to the ATL. And like I said, this is nearly a ‘must’ game for the Braves.

1-Unit Play
Detroit (-155) over Chicago White Sox (7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4)
You have to expect the Tigers to snap out of it at some point, especially with the Indians leaping past them last night into first place. Javy Vasquez is shaky, at best, and Chicago is 5-11 in his last 16 road starts, 3-9 with him as a dog, and 2-6 behind him against a team with a winning record. Detroit has one of its aces, Jeremy Bonderman, on the bump and are 12-3 in his last 15 outings and 7-0 behind him with an extra day of rest.

BIG AL

MLB DIVISIONAL GAME OF THE YEAR (82% RUN)

At 7:10 pm, our AL East Game of the Year is on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays over Baltimore. The Orioles have been red hot since removing manager Sam Perlozzo and replacing him Dave Trembley back on June 18. And Trembley has just been rewarded by having the word "interim" removed from his unofficial title as Andy MacPhail has announced that Trembley will keep the Skipper job through the end of the season. Now if only Trembley could find a way to have all of the Orioles games scheduled against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It's easy to dismiss the D-Rays as one of the worst teams in the league, but the fact is that they can give the best teams in their division a very hard time, as they've shown in the past against both the Yankees and Red Sox. But not the O's. With Friday night's 3-1 victory, Baltimore is now an incredible 15-2 in the last seventeen games vs. Tampa. However, things should change tonight we have a matchup of two southpaws as lefty Brian Burres of the Orioles faces lefty Scott Kazmir of the Rays. Not only has Tampa performed better this year vs. lefties than righties, but Baltimore has really been struggling lately with its bullpen. The Orioles put their closer Chris Ray on the DL and have just announced that former Devil Ray Danys Baez will get the lion's share of the saves while Ray is out. Tampa could get to that bullpen early in the game tonight, as Burres has dropped his last two road starts, while posting a 13.50 ERA, and the Birds have lost each of his last four starts away from home. Last night was the first time in the last nine games that the O's have failed to score at least four runs, and this could be the start of a hitting slump for them, as Kazmir is really in a groove. He's 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA over his last four starts, and he told the Devil Ray web site that the key for him has been an adjustment to his mechanics. Look for Tampa to win this game rather easily, and to snap Baltimore's 8-game winning streak in the series.

I am only questioning the record because alot of people who read this thread will think it is right and play Oakland. I doubt the record is right. I have watched some of his plays and he has done pretty good. He tends to play small dogs. This would make it even more difficult to attain a record like this. If it was someone like Ness who tends to play favorites, the "good record" seems more likely because he is playing -180 type favorites. If it was 18-12 playing dogs that is a great record. I highly doubt this record is correct. God knows a service never lies.

Just to chime in about how this thread is really interesting everyday to look at... I had Baltimore already, and I wasn't all too happy to see 3 services all on TB.

1.) Ben Burns Main Event
2.) Larry Ness Weekend Wipeout Winner
3.) BIG AL MLB DIVISIONAL GAME OF THE YEAR

All saying TB to win over Baltimore.

Hmmm, let's see what happens tonight.

Have a good day, everyone! Thanks for the continued contributions!

Well no matter how good Kazmir is tonight, eventually Tampa will go to the bullpen, and at the point you'll have a chance to cash it no matter what the score is.
