Do you think it’s a coincidence he quit right after the Syria news came out?
Do you think the DoD knew about the announcement regarding a Space Force? No.
Once It was official he quit.. sure.. still doesn't mean he wasn't consulted all along on it..He knew Trumps position from the start.. this isn't a secret.. Trump campaigned on it. Mattis doesn't agree obviously , so once Trump pulled the trigger , Mattis had his out.
You aren’t hearing me. Before huge announcements like this go public, the professional courtesy is to phone your SECDEF and tell him the intentions so he and the entire DoD aren’t surprised. By all accounts, this didn’t happen and Mattis had had enough. Just because the POTUS discussed this during an election almost two years ago doesn’t mean the SECDEF wouldn’t be surprised which he was.
There are big ramifications when making these sorts of decisions like the movement of troops and equipment not to mention the Kurds.
See what I’m saying? In the DoD, it’s all about not surprising people and planning.
Ok , not disagreeing with all of the courtesy part of it .. But doubt there wasn't any conversations , discussions, about all of this leading up to this decision... Maybe I didn't hear the announcement correctly , but troops aren't leaving today are they ? planning can still happen ...
2 egos finally butted heads. Trump may ask for advice but I think it's a courtesy.
He does what he thinks is best despite what people tell him.
Mattis is used to giving orders and having them carried out blindly. I'm surprsed
he lasted as long as he did.
In any event it seemed to work until now. I guess it's next man up.
Evidently it doesn't and presumably no he didn't. Mattis was an advisor not a God. When youIt's not only a courtesy Dave, it's what has to happen. Mattis joined in 1969 and retired in 2013. Trump has to take his advice because the guy is an expert on defense matters. That's why you have a cabinet. If he doesn't want their advice, fire all of them and he can do it himself.
Why are you surprised Mattis lasted this long? He's a Republican and a career military man and in the military, we follow orders. He's a true professional.
I'm not so sure we defeated ISIS in Syria, we just drove them out. A year from nowDonald Trump Jr.Verified account @DonaldJTrumpJr Dec 20More

We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.
Evidently it doesn't and presumably no he didn't. Mattis was an advisor not a God. When you
are used to being king which both men are something had to give. Mattis was no longer in the
military he was a volunteer hence he had no obligation to do what he was told. The two men
had many disagreements I'm guessing but they were minor until now. Trump deciding to get out
of Syria wasn't minor to Mattis so he resigned. Someone will replace him and life will go on.

Trump doesn't "have to" take Mattis' advice
