Um what should Payton have done differently? In one post someone is saying play it conservative when they lead by 1... in a bunch of other posts people are saying he needed to be more aggressive. So what would have been the ideal coaching strategy geniuses?

I think up 1 with 3rd and 7 to go, you run the ball and force NE to call a timeout. I like the aggression but the play they ran on that play was a very low percentage play anyway.

Yeah they had 2 different possessions to end the game, he screwed up both.

I usually don't diss coaches as its cliche but he went conservative at first then let his ego get the best of him 2nd...

there is absolutely no question that they should have run the ball there. how can you throw it there? the only guy i know who has ever walked the planet who would throw the ball in that situation is mike martz

Or Mike Leach? It must be a "Mike" thing.

So you settle for the FG to go up 4? If he did that and Brady drives them down the field he is criticized for being too conservative.

You cant agree with one and not agree with the other. One time he passed it and the other time he ran it. How can you say both were incorrect calls?

Sorry that was worded wrong... my point is you cant disagree with both being one was a run and one was a pass

I'm seeing a lot of chatter online that people think the Patriots were given 4 timeouts in the 2H. I don't know, just relaying what I'm reading.

Absolutely in my opinion. You have to force them to use their timeouts.

They settled for 4 either way.

And if you think he should have ran it there then clearly you had no problem with him running it with under 2 minutes left. Some people on here say both calls were wrong which is ridiculous.

run your offence it's not 3rd and half a yard

everybody that was watching knew what they were going to do run it right in to the guards back side when they had run the ball earlier in the game you still had wide outs on the field with the threat of a pass should of keep them spread out

QUOTE=PatsFan1283;10235945]How? They had 3 timeouts and the 2 minute warning and Graham was out...

They were down a FG. That was clearly not the correct move unless you think you are some insanely low # to stop NO (like <20) Considering they stopped them 2x after that I'd say it was probably a bad move that worked out for the best.[/QUOTE]

It was the right move. Your guaranteed another possesion for the most part down one score. You punt and 2 fd's is ballgame. Gives you an option of letting the saints score also. Way more winning options by going for it there

Basically everyone is calling Payton an idiot for different reasons, and that was my point... regardless what he did he would have been criticized unless it worked

I wouldn't call him an idiot. I think he's a great football mind.

I just would've made the decision to run the ball 3rd and 7 up 1. That's just me though.

Brady throwing the int was a classic move Saints D thought they were done lost there mojo and the Pats gained 10 yards on the play

Right and settling for a 4pt lead with Brady on the other end is not a great plan

Terps, they had done it already two times.

Up 1, they held NE four straight plays. Up 4, they intercepted the ball. They had done it twice already. Had they run that ball on 3rd and 7, he has about 45 less seconds to work with on the final drive.

So then you had no problem with the play calling after the INT? Majority of people on here are criticizing that which is when he got conservative... you cant have it both ways
