With good reason ... they really are dumb ...
The Red Sox drove them into bad contracts for Pavano and for Clemens
... and the Red Sox slipped right by them when signing Matsusaka so the Skanks go out and get a t-baller called Kae Igawa ...
...when the Red Sox got Schilling, the Yanks got a boner and paid to get Randy Johnson's dead arm ...
... so why can't it happen again? IT WILL.
That's revisionist history, the Red Sox WANTED Carl Pavano, they weren't in that to drive up the price. Who did they settle for after that? Oh yeah - Matt Clement.
Randy Johnson didn't live up to hype but he won 34 games in 2 years he was with the NYY and was 7-2 against the RS. They gave up Dionner Navarro, Brad Halsey and Javy Vasquez in that deal.
You're right about Igawa - a foolish reaction to Matz, but was Matz all you expected for an AAV of about $17 mil? The general feeling is that Japanese pitchers have their best success early in the MLB careers. You better hope that isn't the case.
Theo's made his share of bad moves, musical shortstops (Renteria, Lugo), JD Drew, Clement, Meredith and Bard for Mirabelli, Coco Crisp...
