Word is around the campfire is Santana going to Sox for a bunch of players (names are mix and match right now).Reportedly Santana won't except a trade unless there is a deal in place. He is looking for a deal in the range of 6 year 150 mil.

do Boston fans really discuss around a campfire? I was at the Panther/ Bruins game last night and many of the Bruins fans were wearing Red Sox shirts and hats. They were all drunk. damn vacationers

You need to listen to talk radio in Boston ... even in the off season, it is 50% Red Sox talk ... and 40% of it is bitching about who said something bad about the Patriots (spygate, running up the score etc.)

Even when Boston College was ranked #1 in college football, there would be maybe 2% of the calls talking about BC on WEEI .. and 99% of the public (even in Harvard Square) does not know that Harvard won the Ivy League.

Dumb trade for Boston if they make it....No way I'd give up that much for Santana, he's not worth it. Guy has pitched alot of innings the last few years and will be breaking down sooner rather than later

It is moronic to trade for him AND pay him ... how can he be worth 4 players and $150 million????

The Red Sox are bluffing. Let them talk with Santana and his agent and we'll see how serious they are. Smoke and mirrors.

Drive up the price for the Yanks and then sign Danny Haren....

not sure why the a's would want to dump haren now. still have him signed for 3 more years at only 5 mil a year. a's can still wait 2 more years to trade him and get alot more for him then. guy gets better each year on a very offensivly challanged team

Everyone assumes that the Yankees FO is stupid and doesn't see what this is all about. The way to smoke the RS out is to get them actually talking money with Santana, at which point they will be exposed.

BTW Haren won't come much cheaper (in terms of players) than Santana will but he's obviously much less expensive financially. Beene will most likely trade him out of the AL.

Great, so Santana will just be another player if he is on the Yankees or Red Sox.

With good reason ... they really are dumb ...

The Red Sox drove them into bad contracts for Pavano and for Clemens

... and the Red Sox slipped right by them when signing Matsusaka so the Skanks go out and get a t-baller called Kae Igawa ...

...when the Red Sox got Schilling, the Yanks got a boner and paid to get Randy Johnson's dead arm ...

... so why can't it happen again? IT WILL.

That's revisionist history, the Red Sox WANTED Carl Pavano, they weren't in that to drive up the price. Who did they settle for after that? Oh yeah - Matt Clement.

Randy Johnson didn't live up to hype but he won 34 games in 2 years he was with the NYY and was 7-2 against the RS. They gave up Dionner Navarro, Brad Halsey and Javy Vasquez in that deal.

You're right about Igawa - a foolish reaction to Matz, but was Matz all you expected for an AAV of about $17 mil? The general feeling is that Japanese pitchers have their best success early in the MLB careers. You better hope that isn't the case.

Theo's made his share of bad moves, musical shortstops (Renteria, Lugo), JD Drew, Clement, Meredith and Bard for Mirabelli, Coco Crisp...

Theo = drafts well, develops minor leaguers, trades well

Theo = can't evaluate free agents

You're right about the Red Sox not being in it to drive up the price for Pavano ... but as we have seen with the Posada and Rivera deals, the Yanks don't need anyone to drive up the price ... they're great at bidding against themselves ...
