-->LEXINGTON, Ky — Until Sunday afternoon, the home clubhouse at Applebee's Park wasn't much of a place to hang out. There was only one small television and an old, musty couch in the center. By Sunday evening, Roger Clemens had furnished the clubhouse with four new black leather couches, two love seats, a 42-inch plasma television, a 20-inch television, a microwave, DVD and a VCR.
As an added measure, Clemens hired a cleaning crew to have all the showers and counters scrubbed. When the Lexington Legends arrived from their trip at 3:30 a.m. Monday, they were stunned to see their new digs.

"We had a ratty old couch and a little TV," catcher David Kady said. "We walk in and there's all this here. It's awesome. You can't appreciate it enough."
Clemens, who will start for the Legends tonight and has been in Lexington with his eldest son Koby since Thursday, enlisted a group of 12 — including vice president of communications Jay Lucas and assistant of Florida operations Jay Edmiston — to go on the shopping trip to a local furniture store and Best Buy.
Out of respect for Clemens, Lucas wouldn't divulge how much Clemens spent. But the television is advertised for $2,069, and it's clear the total bill ran close to $7,000.

While he's in the giving mood, he should pay back Houston Astro's season ticket holders and management for the money he is stealing.

This cost him his pay for around 1.1 pitches thrown. :money8:

He holds the Astros hostage for the entire off season without giving them an answer on whether or not he will be back...so they are not able to make a decision on whether or not to go out and sign another pitcher with the HUGE salary he will command "IF" he decides he wants to come back. So then they don't sign anyone because they wouldn't have enough money for him...so what does he do? Decides he's not ready to come back yet.

"Just play the first half of the season without me and I'll see how I'm feeling."

What a prick.

So he is now basically in Spring Training mode and getting paid a ridiculous amount of money to pitch for half a season.

Of course they will pay him and want him...who wouldn't? But they should not be in the position they are in right now. They could have gone after a front line pitcher if they knew he was going to pull this crap and they could of had that pitcher for the entire season.

He now set a precedent for anyone not sure if they want to come back to a team or not to just leave the team in limbo and come back and play whenever they feel like it. Ridiculous. How does a team plan for the season without their #1 pitcher? You can't move on without him...if he says he is coming back, you have to pay him.

He's a scumbag...lost all respect for him this season. No different than the crap Brett Favre pulled (except Clemens can still play).

Anyone? Really? Who else could do this? Hopefully, this is a rather unique situation.. But yes, it does set the would would be an unfortunate precedent for other superstars.

Edit: just saw the B. Farve reference.. that would be a good example!

The astros knew that we would not sign until after the WBC, so to say that he held them hostage is ridiculous. The Astros made the choice to wait for Clemens and if anyone is at fault its the Astros and the other teams that waited for Clemens

Its ALL about $$$$ on Both Clemens and the Astros part.
Rodger held them hostage for ages, and now they will get that money back through many ways. Again its ALL about money!!
Sad but true !

I can't stand Clemens, but it was nice to read that he bought all this stuff. With the headline I kind of expected a story about him having a big game and trashing the clubhouse.

Seriously he makes that amount of money in probably a second. 7K doesn't put a dent at all into his bank account.

He pitched in the world tourney & he wasn't 100% recovered from last season's injury-- if he doesn't rest he goes right into IR or gets crippled.

If you assume Clemens throws a little over 3,590 pitches per season based on his past seasons, and makes $12.25 million this year, each pitch is worth about $3,411.

So it took him two pitches to pay for that clubhouse :missingte

I think the point is missed here. Rocket did not do buy all that stuff because he had to, he did it because he wanted to. The guy is class act and if anyone saw him pitch those 3 innings then you saw that he made a lot of fans just by the way he recognized all in attendance. He signed autographs, talked with players from both teams. Spent time to make sure that those people enjoyed a night that they will not soon forget....jmo
