The US of A is a sick country. That's why the terrorist's hate This country! They see the double standard(s) in all aspects of life. Especially the drug one (DOUBLE STANDARDS--Legal companies even constantly their battles with so called "scientific" evidence. ) It's a laugh if you can bear it to do so!
They see a poor person executed for "murder". They see a wealthly person "walk". This is the GREAT Legal system (of by and for) in the constitution. Justice for the Rich-if you think that equals Justice for the Poor--You are an idiot!
Greatest Nation on earth till you break it down peace by peace. Than it's tricky. But basically comes to ONE SINGLE fact: "He who has the GOLD makes the rule". Included in that they OWN anyone else!
God Bless The USA.

Buddy we both been here awhile and i'm sure your a good ol boy , so dont take this as a personal insult. That 1st paragraph is the biggest spew of uninformed bullshit ive heard since the last Obama speech.......
The terrorists hate this country for the simple fact we even allow drugs and alcohol to be made here ..and you think its because of anything we could possibly do with it after that?????

A few more examples......They dont hate America because our women make less per yr than our men....They hate us cus we let them out in public at all!!
They dont hate us because the govt is underfunding AIDS research...They hate us cus we allow Gays to walk the streets in public !

You give the ppl who hate us a lil to much credit for being concerned about the civil rights in this country, i assure you sir they could not possibly careless........

Fozzy B in da' house....how ya been?
Not sure what the per capita of Attorneys in the US is, but I'm sure it's pretty high. US with the highest incarceration rate + high per capita of attorneys = coincidence, I think not?

It's a shame we can't find jobs for the amount we as taxpayers spend to house one prisoner. I've read it costs anywhere from $35-50k per year! I'm sure if a con was making $50k he wouldn't resort to crime.

The high incarceration rate is all about the "System" and its economics (as stated above, courts, federal/state agencies, bureaucrats, etc). America needs to wake up or you too or someone you know will be in the slammer for something relatively petty.

Sounds like we need to kill off more prisoners. We need to kill all those convicted of murder and child molestation and get rid of all appeals. That should bring the ratio down some.:smoker2:

lawyers keep people outta jails, Criminal Defense attorneys make up a very small margin of employable attorneys

and if we got rid of the MMS it wouldn't curb the drug problem.. put more addicts back on the street and they commit more crimes..
Drug related offenses are the reason for the staggering number of inmates..

The policy of drug Prohibition directly inspires and inflates both property and violent crime in our country.

Neither the users, producers or dealers of legal drugs commit personal, property or violent crime to further their activities.

But the law is the law, and I fail to sympathize with people who just had to use crack, heroine or whatever. I think the income tax is a silly way to tax, but I'm not going to stop paying taxes, and if I did, I wouldn't expect people to feel there was a great injustice when I'm put in jail. The nation was founded on a representative democracy, and when our elected officials pass laws within the bounds of their authority (as determined by the constitution and the courts), we should be bound to follow them. If we don't, the social contract is over.

Right thinking Americans have a moral obligation to civilly disrespect - and when inspired - to civilly disobey immoral and unjust laws.

One need not place themselves in undue legal danger to actively and enthusiastically disrespect and civilly disobey any number of immoral and unjust laws and policies within the USA.

Just do it and don't make a big deal out of it.

Or, to morph the earlier post from MIMS into my own previous two posts:

It's not that difficult to civilly disobey a long list of absurd and/or immoral laws within the USA and not get legally caught by authorities.

They won't be back if you release them and eliminate the ridiculous drug laws.

The whole system is a giant welfare program for law enforcement, from the cops, to the prison staff, to the courts, to the ATF, the DEA, Customs, and the list goes on and on. Let's not forget the intersts that build prisons, and the onee thatoperate the private ones, or the companies that operate the BS halfway houses.

Trust me when I say that most of these people are unemployable if the the whole charade was shut down tomorrow.

True, but we lead the world in stupid people. You don't hear too many others shooting up places. You can also always count on some idiot robbing a a 7-11 every night in every major city in America.

My personal favorite is the bank robber, gets about 5K!

I know someone who robbed a bank. He got 10k, but instead of getting his automatic 10 year sentence. He fled on the train to Jersey and New York. They got his buddy and they held him for about a year, but he didn't snitch and they never found the gun. So a Bank in the heart of Downtown got robbed and they never could convict anyone. He ended up coming back to Fla 3 years after it happened. Which was about 1 year ago. I was telling to him about him being like the only guy in the whole area to ever get away with robbing a bank and the guy is stupid. U would probably start laughing if this guy robbed your bank. He is a pretty big ass Blackarican though. We were hanging out with him a couple times that week and it seemed like every time we went to a Public place there would be a cop car following us our something. He had just got back into town and I think 3 stores had got robbed the first week he was there all in 1 hour. So maybe they where checking him out. To see if he had anything to do with it. It wasn't him though. The guy was caught somewhere in the neighborhood of the 3 stores

Listen, I'm all for civil disobedience, but you have to be prepared to handle the consequences. If you don't think the drug laws are rational laws, then go ahead and do drugs, but don't expect anyone else to feel sorry for you when you end up in prison.

Thanks for the friendly go-ahead. Not that I needed it.

I've never been arrested for illicit drug offenses and it's highly unlikey I ever would be in the future.

I was merely refuting the proposed notion that if folks don't follow all laws in lockstep then the social structure might collapse.

As for the "other" three quarters of a million Americans* currently incarcerated for non-violent drug law offenses, my motivation in changing policy is founded in the realization that with few exceptions, time in jail or prison is more destructive to the individual and to his circle of influence than any level of illicit drug use can be.

*That's the more accurate number, in belated response to several other posts in this Topic thread which were speculating on the percentage of incarcerated folks who are doing time for non-violent drug law offenses.

It should also be noted that well over 85% of those inmates are jailed for simple possession charges and not for trafficking.

Let me get this straight of the 750k ppl U SAY r in jail for "non violent" drug offenses 85% of them are in for "simple possesion" ????????

Lets say i accept this as fact (huge stretch) .
what % were not convicted of their original charge? (plea bargains, etc)

How many are in on that charge because of a probation violation that returned them to jail on that charge?????

we have a case here now where 2 guys kidnapped a 17 yr old boy, killed him for his truck and then left his body in a vacant lot....they cant prove which 1 killed him and they cant prove which 1 kidnapped him so 1 is in jail for possesion of stolen things and the other for the crack he had on him when arrested......under your logic both these guys should be eligible to walk anytime now right?????????

Thats what i hate about liberal thinking, just because something is easy to say doesnt make it sensible..........or smart..

While im pounding the liberal punching bag let me point out another way liberals are idiots......

i was watching last night a war protest film someone recorded in Calif......the liberals are on bullhorns calling soldiers war criminals and such. no big deal nobody cares but themselves what they think...but then 1 guy on a bullhorn announces that a guy walking across the street is a republican.the crowd starts chasing the guy down the street, hitting him, throwing things, screming, etc......mind u the guy hasnt said a word and was mearly walking down the street...after its about 100-1 ppl on him the cops jump in a break it up..........

Wait a second, i dont want to give this away.....

You tell me what the liberals did at this point.............give me your best idea on what these "free thinking liberals did as a reaction to being stopped from assulting an unarmed man they didnt even know....................

Today sadly has become more about lawyers making MONEY than promoting the safety for the general public.
Let's not forget in 2nd place the big corporations.... but back to the lawyers.
Oh well--I hate terms like liberal-conservative. They are empty words.
