Guys I'd like to know from those who live there or have been there: whats good to do? places to visit? probably will be there for the MCM in october, traveling with wife and daughter as wife wants to run the marathon, probably staying for 6-7 days. So I'm basically looking at things to with them, daughter will be almost 4 yo.

Thank you for your input

Great clubs in Georgetown. Used to get top musical talent. I assume they still do. You gotta do the Smithsonian. Very cool.

Jay bear in mind that all the Smithsonian museums including the zoo are free and they are all mostly mind blowing (except the zoo)

I lived in dc for a few months in my early 20's.

1. I peed in a cab.

2. Muslims everywhere

3. I beat up an Egyptian. He threatened gf. Yeah serious size mismatch on that one. I was prob 6'4" and pretty decent shape. I think I had a foot on the poor sap.

4. I was at the pentagon. Vehicle broke down. Everyone acting like it needs to be moved. Yet no one could comprehend the reason I couldn't move it. Drove me crazy. Like these fools can't comprehend English.

5. Had a dog in a high rise. I would have shit on the balcony and I would brush it onto a busy street. I also peed on said street everytime I could. Gf's friend thought I was crazy. I would be laughing the entire time.

If you are with your family you are definitely going to want to see the American History Museum, the WWII memorial (it is outdoor so keep weather in mind) and the Spy Museum. The Spy Museum is immensely popular.

There is also an American Art Museum & National Portrait Gallery near the Spy Museum and in the neighborhood you have the DC Chophouse & Brewery and Gordon Biersch brewery.

Jay,

There are a ton of great restaurants. Lots of outdoor stuff and free things to see. As a marathon runner, I usually don't like to do much sightseeing the day before a race (I'm a sub-3 hour runner and take it way too seriously!).

Old Town, Alexandria is great. Cobblestone streets, riverfront, restaurants, etc.

The previously mentioned museums: the free Smithsonian's, Spy Museum, Newseum, etc.

October is nice around here, great fall weather (it can be really cold or just mild, you never know).

Definitely visit Arlington Cemetery (if you have any national pride).

The National Mall is cool, plus all of the monuments are there (or around it).

Georgetown is a great place to walk around (and shop - for the wife).

Tyson's Corner (which is a ways out, but is now Metro accessible) is a really good mall (the best in the area).

Mt. Vernon (George Washington's home) is cool, but it's $25 or more/each for entrance).

You can catch a river cruise in Old Town or Georgetown.

There's a few casino's nearby (one on the way to Baltimore and one in Baltimore)....also one about 70 miles away in WV.

National Harbor (on the Maryland side) is cool (plus it has shopping).

You can do a Pentagon or White House tour if you schedule it far enough in advance. You can also tour the Capital Building.

If the weather is nicer you can rent kayak's in Georgetown.

You could drive out to Great Falls (on the Potomac River), really cool area/park.

Lots of local dining options. Most are pricey. Be ready to pay $7-10 for a beer (a few places have American drafts in the $5-6 range).

No problem. Lots to do here. Great city. Also, just because you're a tico you can still visit Arlington! Awesome, awesome experience! Beautiful place too. There are a lot of hispanic's here in DC, so you should easily find Spanish speakers to assist as well.

He's not kidding on that one. I cant remember if I lived in Chrystal City or arlington. I could see Pentagon from apt. Was fun smuggling in my dog with all their cameras. Got away with it.

So looks like misses is running the MCM so we'll be flying in on Oct 22, so just a couple of questions: is it a good idea to fly to baltimore and then drive to wherever we stay at? there is a new southwest direct flight between SJO-BWI and I like the price and schedule for this flights. Best hotels to stay at? I'm looking at the ones posted on the race page but all seem to have 1 night availability and the next sold out and then again available.
