My question is...what can we as patrons expect in terms of sign up bonuses? I see the $250 for two of the online sites, but is that going to be the standard or is it going higher/lower based on other states that have gone through this?

Fan Duel will go online either next two weeks of July or early August. In New Jersey, FanDuel offers a risk-free first bet of up to $500. So, if a player loses his or her very first bet, the site credits back the full bet amount up to $500.

This promotion is not the same as a cash bonus. Players are not eligible to withdraw the credit until they wager a second time. However, regardless of what happens on the very first wager with FanDuel, a player’s balance will not go down.

Payback bonuses are returned to a player’s account within 72 hours and, depending on the amount, may be subject to tax withholdings.

Pa will probably have the same offer.

Sources: FanDuel Sportsbook Launching Soon in PA

FanDuel will get in on PA online sports betting when it launches its FanDuel Sportsbook PA in partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort likely later this month, multiple sources tell Crossing Broad.

This will make FanDuel Sportsbook the fourth sports betting site or app to enter the market since SugarHouse Sportsbook launched in May.

It is expected that FanDuel will be live in PA in the next week few weeks, potentially by the end of July. But with delays being the norm in the legal Pennsylvania betting market, an early August launch is obviously not out of the question.

Specific timing shouldn’t matter given betting seasonality, but FanDuel will target a launch before the start of English Premier League soccer, college football, and of course, the NFL.

iOS app at launch?

According to a source, FanDuel Sportsbook will be offered on iOS in Pennsylvania at or near launch. This when other operators in PA have been plagued by a recent Apple App Store policy update and haven’t been able to offer their apps on the popular mobile operating system.

This puts FanDuel Sportsbook in a strong position if they are the only operator offering iOS betting in PA at the start of football season. They are already the dominant sportsbook in New Jersey for reasons explained in our review of FanDuel Sportsbook.

Competitors

Bet Rivers Sportsbook, the combined venture of the Rivers and SugarHouse brands when the two are merged later this year, should be a formidable force. Parent company Rush Street has said it is working on a solution to the iOS issue, which may be in place by football season. With physical locations on both sides of the state and a strong mobile DNA thanks to running its online casino app in New Jersey for three years, Bet Rivers has a chance to grab significant market share later this year.

Others to watch out for include FOX Bet, the rebranded BetStars app which will receive the full marketing mite of FOX Sports, and Unibet, the popular European sportsbook recently approved by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to operate in PA.

To be alerted when FanDuel and other sportsbooks launch in PA, join our sports betting list. We don’t spam and send mostly informational emails with betting previews and more.

An Apple Today Might Keep PA Sports Betting Competitors Away For SugarHouse Sportsbook

SugarHouse Sportsbook might have a solution that solves the persistent Apple problem in PA sports betting.

According to an article at PlayPennsylvania.com, SugarHouse paired with GeoComply, a leading geolocation technology company, to offer a workaround for iPhone and iPad users. Whether looking to take part in PA sports betting or PA online casino, the SugarHouse site now prompts users to download GeoComply’s GeoGuard app.

By installing this geolocation technology on an Apple device, bettors should be able to access mobile PA sports betting at SugarHouse. GeoComply technology already functions within many apps in other states, including New Jersey.

Why this is a problem in the first place
SugarHouse launched its online PA sports betting site in May without an iOS app. The issue originates with Apple and its App Store, and changing guidelines on real-money gaming apps.

While Apple’s motivation for the shift remains unclear, the limitation on the Pennsylvania sports betting market remains the same. Neighboring New Jersey sees four out of every five sports bets placed via a mobile device, and Apple’s iPhone dominates the mobile market.

If the GeoGuard workaround sticks for SugarHouse Sportsbook, it could provide the Rush Street Interactive property with an enormous early edge in the PA sports betting market. Competitors Parx Sportsbook and Hollywood Casino are not part of the GeoComply solution at this point.

More on the Apple PA sports betting fix
PlayPennsylvania goes into additional detail about how the GeoGuard app communicates with the gaming site, ensuring it meets the terms of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB):

Essentially, the GeoComply app talks with the PA online gambling sites in question, confirming the customer’s location. Once the app verifies the location to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) regulatory standards, iOS users can access the browser-based versions of their preferred online casino or online sportsbook.

The PGCB proceeds cautiously with regard to location verification, especially in the wake of the new Department of Justice memo about the Wire Act. PGCB Executive Director Kevin O’Toole sent a letter in January to operators, requiring compliance in making sure no betting information crosses state lines:

“Thus, with any forms of internet or mobile gambling, it appears that diligence in assuring that the transmission of bets and wagers, payments and credits as a result of bets or wagers, as well as the information assisting in placing those bets and wagers, does not cross state lines is paramount.”

While online sports betting in PA only operated at SugarHouse Sportsbook for a few days in May, it generated more than $570,000 in handle. That might represent a tiny fraction of the nearly $36 million wagered but that number could grow exponentially in the June report, which should come out shortly.

There is no doubt that FanDuel Sportsbook is one of the most recognizable online sports betting brands in the United States. And it might be the most anticipated app to launch for online sports betting in PA. Still, there’s some uncertainty regarding when owner BetFair will bring FanDuel Sportsbook PA to market. We previously assembled a comprehensive FanDuel Sportsbook review, but in this article we will attempt to unpack some of the mysteries surrounding the release of FanDuel Sportsbook in PA.

FanDuel Sportsbook is expected to release their PA sports betting app at the end of July, according to CrossingBroad.com sources. It is also believed that this launch will include full access on iOS, which means bettors on iPhone and iPad can get into the game for the first time in Pennsylvania.

How To Install GeoGuard And Start Playing And Betting On Your iPhone In PA

In June, Apple updated its App Store Review Guidelines. It required operators to develop a native iOS-based product. Affected apps would be removed from the App Store if they did not come into compliance and new apps could not be added to the store.

Today, it appears the solution for Apple users arrived. The GeoGuard Location Validator, an app produced by GeoComply.

How do you like them apples?

Once verified by the super-quick process, iOS users have access to the browser-based version of the online casino or sportsbook. Users must be physically located in Pennsylvania to play, which is exactly what Geo Guard verifies.

How GeoGuard and SugarHouse work together

SugarHouse finished third in the race to online gaming in Pennsylvania behind Hollywood Casino and Parx. But they were the first to offer iOS users access to their online casino and sportsbook. Sister property BetRivers started offering the technology just hours later. Hopefully, other Pennsylvania online casinos and sportsbooks will follow their lead.

SugarHouse is tapping into a huge market. Apple ranks as the second most popular mobile operating system with a 47 percent market share.

There is no iOS app for online casinos or sports betting in Pennsylvania yet. But third-party app GeoGuard Location Validator is a solid solution. Especially since GeoComply technology is used by all the sportsbooks in New Jersey, which should alleviate any “third-party” download jitters.

How to install Get GeoGuard Location Validator

First, sign off of FaceApp. Do you really want to see what you look like when you are old? Also, its privacy policy is a “convoluted mess.”

Back to GeoGuard Location Validator. Go into the App Store. Type “GeoGuard Location Validator” or “Geo Comply” in the search bar.

Click on the “Get” button followed by the “Open” button.

You will see this welcome screen saying “Just 2 fast steps and you’re ready to go.” I was skeptical. Usually, I need to come up with a username, password with symbols and three security questions…not the case here.

Click “Let’s start.”

If you agree and allow, you can be set up in less than fifteen seconds.

Two quick steps to get verified

Step 1

The app asks that you to enable Location Services on your device to use the GeoGuard Location Validator supported websites. Then it says to click “Always Allow” on the pop-up message.

Click on the “Ok, I understand” white shaded box which prompts this pop-up.

Click “Always Allow”

Step 2

In order to securely verify your location, the GeoGuard Location Validator needs to send you notifications. You must click “Allow” on the pop-up message to proceed.

Click on the “OK, I understand” white-shaded box which prompts this pop-up.

Click “Allow”

That’s it.

That really is it.

Return to your browser to continue.

How to adjust settings for GeoGuard

You must click “Always Allow.” If you click “Only When Using This App,” it’s not going to work.

If you click “Only when using this app” (which I always do), you need to go settings. There you can change location from “while using” to “always.”

When asked GeoGuard would like to send you notifications, you must say yes. If not, you have to go into settings and move the toggle on “allow notifications”

What if I don’t download GeoComply and try to play on iOS?

Once logged into pa.playsugarhouse.com, there will be a prompt for the GeoGuard.

After it is downloaded, you’ll return to the SugarHouse website. If you’re located inside Pennsylvania’s borders, you’re all set. If you’re not, you’ll get a “geolocation failed” message.” And it’s a bit scary.

Who is GeoComply?

GeoComply provides geolocation compliance technology. The Vancouver-based company started in 2011 and now serves nearly all of the iGaming market. GeoComply’s client list includes Rush Street Interactive which owns SugarHouse and Rivers Casino.

Some other GeoComply clients include:

DraftKings
Caesars
Golden Nugget
Betfair
IGT
GAN
William Hill
MGM Resorts
PointsBet
Scientific Games

“Necessity is the mother of invention, and this new launch is a very good example of that,” said GeoComply CEO David Briggs when asked about the new product.

“Since Apple hardened their policy on refusing any iGaming Apps with wrapped HTML 5 code in, our team has been working extremely hard over the last few months, along with Rush Street Interactive, in order to find a way to service iOS users while meeting the high regulatory standards demanded in States such as Pennsylvania. Although there is more to come from us in terms of further features and innovations in order to make the product easier to use from a UX perspective, we are glad to get something out there for patrons on iOS devices.”

I prefer the cash bonus with a rollover, but the $500 First Bonus Bet will be one that should not be passed up. It is tough though to put it all on one game. Guess we all better get studying or take a big moneyline chalk. Thanks for the info...much appreciated.

FanDuel Sportsbook App Goes Live Today In Pennsylvania; Will It Dominate PA Like NJ?

This is a developing story and will be updated.

The early leader in the New Jersey online sports betting market is coming to Pennsylvania.

Here comes FanDuel Sportsbook PA

FanDuel Sportsbook will go live in PA for testing its online app on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m., before going fully live later in the week.

It joins several other sportsbooks that have gone live since spring:

SugarHouse Sportsbook PA
Parx Sportsbook
BetRivers Sportsbook

PA online sports betting, like NJ?

FanDuel Sportsbook PA should look a lot like the NJ sportsbook that has dominated the Garden State.

FanDuel has held a stranglehold on the New Jersey market for much of 2019, both online and with its physical sportsbook near New York City.

It will hope to replicate its success in the online realm in Pennsylvania. If it does, it will provide a compelling narrative about the quality of the FanDuel product and the value of its brand as sports betting rolls out in more states across the US.

In the first full month with PA sportsbook apps live, more than 40% of all wagers came online. The state also set a new record for money wagered with the advent of online wagering.

The addition of FanDuel will move an even larger percentage of wagering online. In New Jersey, 80% of all money bet is via sportsbook apps and sites.

FANDUEL READY TO BATTLE IN PA, STARTS TESTING ON JULY 22

Fire up your phones, the newest online betting app is headed to Pennsylvania on Monday.

Sources confirmed to PlayPennsylvania that FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge Casino is starting the first of three days of online testing monitored by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). Once these three days of supervised testing go off without a hitch, the app can roll out 24/7 availability.

What is potentially great news for PA bettors is that this likely means the first sportsbook app for Apple is en route. Unlike several other online gambling apps, FanDuel is built on native iOS. With no HTML5-related hiccups, that means it should get listed in the Apple app store without issue.

FANDUEL ALREADY MARKET LEADER IN NEW JERSEY

If you’re skeptical that a daily fantasy sports site can offer much in the way of sports betting, FanDuel is actually one of the early leaders in the expanding US market.

In New Jersey, FanDuel’s sportsbook at The Meadowlands is the top-performing retail sportsbook by a margin. More importantly, though, it is also one of the big two in the online betting space. The other? Another familiar daily fantasy sports name: DraftKings. Last month, FanDuel and PointsBet, the other sportsbook on The Meadowlands’ online license, generated $2.7 million in revenue. So far in 2019, the pair has produced $45.1 million in revenue in 2019.

When it comes to Pennsylvania, the retail sportsbook at Valley Forge is generally in the middle of the pack when it comes to handle and revenue. However, as we have seen from SugarHouse, the addition of online is absolutely a game-changer.

FANDUEL POTENTIAL PROMO OFFER

Just because FanDuel will be in a testing phase does not mean there will be no offer for new players. In New Jersey, the current offer is a $500 Bonus Bet.

The way a Bonus Bet works is that the site will match the size of your deposit up to a certain amount, in this case, $500. Players need only place a single bet for up to that amount. Then, if the bet wins, your online site is already booming with a bankroll. If it loses, the site will drop that amount back into your account as bonus money.

There is no guarantee the offer will be exactly that in Pennsylvania, but you can expect some sort of welcome offer for those ready to give FanDuel Pennsylvania a try.

Harrahs Casino set to launch online sports betting in Pennsylvania

The first Sunday of the NFL season is always like Christmas Day in Philadelphia, but this year the giddiness will climb to a whole new level with the advent of legal online sports betting in Pennsylvania.

SugarHouse, Parx, Bet Rivers and FanDuel are now all up and running online and they will be joined by Harrah’s Philadelphia next month. All of the online books are anticipating a monumental boom period once the NFL and college football seasons begin.

“It’s always been about that magical date of getting things up and running before football season, so we expect to launch online sometime in August,” said Harrah’s Philadelphia Senior Vice President & General Manager Chris Albrecht in an exclusive 1-on-1 with MetroBet last week at Philadelphia Business Journal’s Business of Sports Conference last Thursday at SugarHouse Casino. “Everything’s been going great so far [with the brick and mortar sportsbook], we opened earlier this year and we’re really excited to get into our first football season to really see what the sportsbook can become for us.”

Albrecht told MetroBet that Harrah’s, which is operated by Caesars Entertainment, will be rolling out a boatload of new promotions centered around the start of the NFL season.

“We’re about to enter the biggest time of our year,” Albrecht told MetroBet. “We’re in ‘idea mode’ right now so we’ll be looking to launch those promotions within the next month or so. We’ll leverage other assets in our building too. We have a beer garden downstairs. We have restaurants, and we want to be able to tie those in with the betting going on in the sportsbook [called The Book] once we have online and new kiosks around the building - to kind of bring it all together ahead of football season.”

Concerns for sportsbook heads have been whether or not the traffic to their retail sportsbooks will dip once online is fully up and running, and will the increased competition be a problem? But Albrecht sees it more as a “rising tide lifts all boats” scenario.

“Right now it just looks like it’s all going to continue to grow, and as we’ve seen with New Jersey already – it’s not like it’s cutting into Nevada’s business,” Albrecht told MetroBet. “It’s just growing in a whole new market. Maybe some of these states that abut each other might cut into one another a little bit so it will be interesting to see how much Pennsylvania and New Jersey cut into one another – but I think for a few years we’ll all just be in growth mode.”

My biggest issue with bet rivers is the pop-ups when you login.
It keeps brining up the ads for the deposit bonus.

It also took about 4 logins for the Geo app to work correctly. Once it got going, it worked fine.

Otherwise, the lines are largely close to offshore.

yeah, works very well...nice site

two issues are
1) 3 popups appear at every login
2) emails you that there's been a login on your account

i've used Android app on phone, laptop, and pad and all work really well. I'd assume an IOS user could still bet through the browser while the app is in development

DraftKings Sportsbook PA: When Will DraftKings’ Sports Betting App Come To Pennsylvania?

DraftKings Sportsbook is one of the two leaders of legal online sports betting in the US. Along with FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings has dominated the market thus far. But the real question is when DraftKings will bring its sports betting app to PA online sports betting. We have put together a full DraftKings Sportsbook review, but in this article we are going to look at when we can expect to see it in Pennsylvania.

When will DraftKings Sportsbook enter the PA market?

Officials tell us DraftKings plans to offer online sports betting in Pennsylvania before the start of the football season. They will need to find a partner first and have their app tested by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Look and feel of the app

Unlike in New Jersey where skins are free to take on their own branding, in PA those apps powered by third parties will have to feature the branding of the casino licensee. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook’s app with Vallery Forge Casino Resort will feature the Valley Forge branding. This further complicates matters when it comes to marketing the app to users. While DraftKings Sportsbook PA will almost certainly look and feel like DraftKings’ sports betting app, it may feature separate branding.

Who are DraftKings’ possible partners?

Thus far, there are four remaining licensees do not have skin partners or have not announce plans to brand their own app:

Sands Casino Resort
Hollywood Casino
Lady Luck Casino
The Meadows Casino

As you can see, the list is shrinking, and DraftKings will likely have to partner with one of these four casinos if it wants to offer sports betting in PA.

Promo code

DraftKings Sportsbook runs a $500 first bet match offer with no promo code required in New Jersey. It’s unclear whether they’ll run the same offer in PA or if they will offer market specific promotions.

One thing that has proven to be very popular is betting on local teams– NJ sportsbooks have taken massive action on Philly and New York teams, and that effect should only be more exaggerated when DraftKings launches in Pennsylvania. This means that you can expect more local odds boosts specific to the Philly (and Pittsburgh market).

Whether each version of the DraftKings Sportsbook app will offer differ odds remains to be seen.

Types of betting

DraftKings Sportsbook figures to offer all the traditional bet types, including spread, moneyline, over-under, futures, parlays, props and teasers. But it is also expected they’ll bring their more unique betting options like live betting, cash out, pools, brackets and even casino games.
