No. They had 2 losses.

So Ohio state is a better team because penn state has 2 losses? Who was Ohio states loss to again?

psu lost 2 games in the first 4 weeks of the season ...since then they were a completely different team while continuing to play good competition ....teams change during a season . Look at Michigan , they were dominant and peaked about mid season....they then lost 3 of their last 4 games...they aren't the same team they were mid season...teams change....

You re right. Lets re visit this discussion after the usc game. A game where the higher rated team is a td underdog.

OSU only loss was to psu, on the road, when leading in the fourth, on 2 shall we say, two unpredictable special teams plays. They beat Oklahoma on the road, and beat Michigan, a team that destroyed the lions. PSU played the 28th ranked schedule while OSU played the fourth toughest. PSU had 2 losses. OSU only had 1 against a tougher schedule.

But I agree about teams improving from the start os the season. Lets meet back here after the USC game.

I love how people always go back to the "fluke" special teams plays...but never want to say anything about how psu dominated the second half on defense and OSU couldn't do anything..or the fact that two of OSUs scores came from a broken defensive play resulting in a 60 yard td run and a fluke muffed punt inside psu territory..oh, and osu blocked a FG to keep points off the board too...but only psu's "fluke" plays are revisited

I love the simplistic, reactionary, predictable, comments after the game. "Ohio State got killed and we beat Ohio State so we should have been in" Its possible, that the big 10 is garbage. Just throwing it out there. If you think the lions fare better against Clemson, have at it. Serious, its thinking like this that keeps espn viable.

But wait, you guys lost to Pitt, and pitt beat clemson, and northwestern beat Pitt...and western michigan beat northwestern...so..

just stop dude, most of the psu fans i know wanted franklin fired in october then they got hot...cool...clemson would have murdered you too and no a team with 2 losses did not belong there

but if you want to give me usc for $100, i ll play along

My rational isn't that because we beat osu and osu got killed that we should have been in....I just believe that at the end of the season pennn state was one of the 4 best teams in the country ....

and as for Franklin, the only penn state fans that wanted him fired are ones that have no idea what is going on....I am a die hard psu fan, I've forgotten more about penn state football than probably anyone on this board knows ....Franklin was never on the hot seat this year, in fact, the seat wasn't even warm.....next year is the year that he needed to start winning and 2018 was going to be the final nail in coffin if he wasn't competing for championships...that is FACT....and came straight from a few very large donors mouths along with people very high up in the athletic department.....yes the sanctions are gone so everyone wants the excuses that go along with it gone too, but fact is, the oline and depth issues are still a major and lingering effect of the sanctions...it is what it is....next year won't be nearly as bad but it will still linger...2018 we should be at full strength and away from any effects of the sanctions....

And the betting thing, I rarely bet on psu games because I have too much vested in them emotionally to put money on them too, unless I see value. I will have a small play on the money line tomorrow but only small because I see value but I don't know if it's from my heart or head lolololol...
im a homer and will admit as much...however I think I have valuable discussions and can point out faults in my team as much as I can point out positives

This thread is dripping with hindsight cliche...If PSU gets their tails kicked tomorrow by USC everybody will be saying USC should have been in...A 6 or 8 team playoff will end just about all of this controversy. But no matter how many teams we had in the Playoff, I still don't think it would have mattered this year or last year. Bama and Clemson are still the two best teams.

Should be 8 team playoff, power 5 conference champs all get a seat, three at large, top 4 teams play the first playoff game at home....

not a hard thing to come up with and solves the fans not having to travel for 3 games if make it to the championship.

I've said this for years. Makes too much sense for these jack offs to actually do something that makes sense.

Yea this hindsight stuff is hilarious. OSU layed an egg but no one could see that coming. I honestly think Clemsom has a better chance to beating Bama but not if there defense doesn't step up. OSU moved the ball even with their shitty play calling and if not for turnovers they created themselves and missed FGs that gave Clemson a short field who knows PSU didn't deserve to be in just like any other 2 loss team, conf champ or not. The only thing that is going to end this debate is expanding the playoff which needs to happen anyway and get rid of all the bowls. FBS football is the ONLY NCAA sport on any level, mens or womens that doesn't have a playoff. It is stupid. Plus there will never be a TRUE conference champ unless every team plays every other team in the conference throughout the season. Iowa last year was undefeated going into the Championship game and if they would've beat MSU you really would have crowned them conference champs without them playing Ohio State, Michigan, or Wisconsin? The whole system and process is a joke and until that gets fixed we won't have a TRUE national champ. It's also nonsense that these teams have 3 4 or 5 weeks off between games. Teams like PSU and USC both get hot at the end of the season and then have to wait over a month to play again and lose all that steam and hotness. But basically if you don't play every team in your conference you cannot be a TRUE conference champ.

Come on folks no one I mean no is gonna beat either clemson or bama. This is the national championship game and no other team could have beat either one.

.... and the crazy thing is had Dewey the Dipshit not missed a chip shot FG for NC State Clemson would have been left out. Last night left me wondering where the hell that Clemson team has been all year. If Deshaun Watson plays error free they beat Alabama but you just never know with him. Hopefully he stays focused for this game.

There's nothing hindsight about this. Come on, this isn't actedneck bloodline, it's very easy to follow.

Penn Sltate could lose 62-0 and they'd still be more deserving than OSU. If OSU had beaten Clemson and gone on to win the national championship, that wouldn't have magically made them more deserving than PSU.

Penn State beat OSU straight up and won the conference championship. Might have been a team more deserving than PSU but it certainly wasn't the suckeyes.

We could have a 16 team playoff but at the end of the day the 2 best teams are playing. Can't argue about that. May the best team win.

For the Penn St backers using the "head to head" card, PSU and Michigan both have 2 losses and Michigan wiped out PSU in the head to head game why doesn't that work for the Wolverines? And I am not saying Michigan should have been in the playoffs, for picking a Big 10 team I think the committee picked the right one. And for the "conference champion" foolishness think about this, last year if Iowa scored a few more points in the Michigan State game they would have been "conference champions" would have been in the playoffs and would have gotten washed, pressed and hung out to dry by Alabama..... would being "conference champion" have meant anything in that scenario? Putting this on here now before work instead of 10 hours from now and being accused of "hindsight"....

But Iowa didn't score more points, so that obviously doesn't make any valid point. But, are you asking, if Iowa won one more game, would that have given them a better record and therefore a better claim to a better bowl? Lol, yes, of course.

How on earth is citing being conference champions "foolishness"? That's the dumbest thing I've heard yet. Why even have a championship game then?

I believe the committee has selected the right teams all 3 years. With only 4 teams, the qualifying teams have to play like playoff contenders every week. That means two losses or a blowout loss should be almost impossible to overcome. Penn State had both.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some Americans are. If the object of the playoffs is to have the 4 BEST teams play for the title, Michigan State or Iowa last year didn't fit that bill. Iowa beats MSU last year they aren't in a "better bowl"- they are getting housed by Alabama in a CFP game. Penn State or Michigan this year wouldn't have cut it either. And now we can see neither did Ohio State. So "conference champions" isn't the best and only way to do this. But hell brainwash yourself that "conference champions" are the best way to choose our playoff teams and let the 38 to 0 and 31 to 0 boredom bowls continue......
