Hey Chop what is your Saints insider saying about this situation?

It's been a couple of weeks and crickets as far as anything happening...

If this is a done deal why has it not happened yet?

I know you said it's all Butler's agents fault before but by now there has to be more to the story...

Butler has to sign the tender .
It makes no difference if the saints and pats agreed on a trade 3 weeks ago until Butler signs the tender.
Cant make it official till that happens.

I think the more to the story part is the fact that butler really wants to stay but does not fully realize that for whatever reason the pats don't want him anymore.

Yea this agent is an idiot but you have to think Butler has at least something to do with all this.

Both the Saints and Pats wanted this done weeks ago .

Maybe these Sherman rumors are a way to get Butler to realize they don't want him anymore

Thanks for the update Chop. From the take up here on local BS sports radio talk, Kraft and Belichick absolutely love Butler as a player and as a person but they hate the Agent so much they're willing to let him walk/deal him just out of spite/hatred of the Agent. This guy needs to wake up and realize he got the break of a lifetime, undrafted, going to NE, and becoming part of the Super Bowl highlight reels. One more year of solid play and he can write his own ticket, instead he's got this Moron in his ear promising him Gilmore money and who knows whatever else. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

c'mon Chop, more to it than that

unless you're suggesting the Saints will be happy to have him for just one year

they have to agree on a long term deal with him too

The local media is obviously pretty favorable to the Pats. Red Sox as well (nothing personified this more than when Theo left and all these "sources" came out against him)

Saying it is the agent being unreasonable is just their way of PR spin because Butler is a huge fan favorite, when the reality is that it is far more likely they just wanted to pay Gilmore to be their #1 CB.

I guess that could be wrong and they could still sign Butler but given how much money they've already invested in the secondary, seems like a longshot.

? So now the Saints are giving up a 1st round pick?

Or is he being traded after he signs a contract?

So, supposedly Saints/Patriots have a trade worked out, Butler met with the Saints to negotiate a contract for said trade.
Butler has to sign his tender in order for the Patriots to make supposed trade with Saints.

If the deal from the Saints is that good then why has Butler not signed his tender so he can be traded and get his money???

Saying it's the agent is the problem at this point does not cut it, has to be more than that as all they want is to get a big pay day.
If the Saints were offering that great a contract then he would have signed the tender and been traded to the Saints already.

Obviously there is more going on that we don't know about: Either the Saints contract is not all that great in the Butler camp's opinion or Butler
does not want to leave the Patriots probably knowing he will never have as good a chance to win as being a Patriot.

he goes to the Saints he gets some money but he will never win again.....

Hey Chop, it looks like Butler just signed his tender with NE. It should get interesting now, let us know what's happening on the NO side.

The draft starts next Thursday. Usually player transactions of this magnitude are decided before/during draft. Just tough for the Saints to go into the draft with something like that still in limbo.

So I'd say that is possibly a soft deadline.

I would think the absolute deadline is the draft for a deal to get done. I'm just waiting to see how long it will be before this agent pisses off NO trying to squeeze them for a little more before he screws this deal up and Butler has no choice but to play for NE this year.

They going to wait a few day to pretend like they never talked then get the deal done.

Butler is finally getting pissed at his agent.
Butler ultimately wanted to stay in NE but over the last few weeks he is warming up to come to the saints.

It will be announced shortly .

And no. NE still not getting 11 or 32

New info.
Both the saints and pats have fallen in love with the prospects in this draft in the late 1st and early 2nd.

Saints really valued Butler higher then the 42nd pick but now they are ok with keeping 42 but are still willing to trade it because of the previous handshake agreement .

The Patriots won't take less then pick #42 and won't pull the tigger on that unless Tim Williams is available with pick #42.

Tim Williams is a linebacker for Alabama and the Patriots want him .

Thanks for the update Chop, now with rumors swirling about Peterson heading to NO, do you think they have just completely walked away from Butler and are just focused on the draft? Is cap space getting a little tight?

Don't think AP would have much to do with Butler. That is a weird signing though, he's never really been much of a receiver. Seems like his role there is gonna be fairly limited.

NE might have the best secondary in the league with Butler back next year if the deal has fallen apart. Him, Gilmore, McCourty, Chung/Harmon.

It was just a thought that NO was getting a little tight in CS, I didn't think they had much to work with in the first place
