There are a couple places in NYC that serve Shiner Bock. RUB on 23rd street being one of them. Good stuff.

Since you likely haven't acquired a sophisticated beer palate yet, I would stick to the lagers as well as the hefeweizens (since you mentioned you liked the Penn Weizen).

Easily drinkable lagers are:
Rolling Rock
Molson Canadien
Pilsner Urquell
Stella Artois

pretty much in that order in both taste and price.

Hefeweizens:
Blue Moon
Pyramid Hefeweizen
Ommegang Witte

If you want to branch out to heavier-bodied beers:
Fat Tire
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Anchor Steam

The most important thing is to try different styles and find one you enjoy both the taste and the price range. Likely if that bar has over 100 beers, they will give you shot glass size samples so you can try several different ones and find one that you are comfortable with.

Beer is a very personal choice and different ocassions can call for different selections. Go with what you are comfortable with, try different things, and don't worry what others say.

I will not disparage a man's beer preference, but one thing I don't understand. With all the refined palates and listings of fancy beers, how do you explain this list compiling the top selling beers in the US? It seems like nobody on here drinks any of them, with few exceptions.

1. Bud Light
2. Budweiser
3. Miller LiteAnalysis-of-Miller-Coors-Merger
4. Coors Light
5. Corona Extra
6. Natural Light
7. HeinekenBeer-Wine-Industry-Parallels
8. Michelob Ultra Light
9. Busch Light
10. Miller High Life

According to the distibution map it's available here. That's why I come here, to learn.

I wonder how long. Thought I remember from another thread here somewhere where someone in the NE wanted a case sent to him. It's actually a very good beer, try it.

I'm easy. Bud Light is my beer of choice. I've just never been able to get into the heavier and\or syrupy beers. Screw Budweiser(aka-the dreaded leaded). That shit makes my head hurt like nothing else!
