OT: Teens Get 10 Years for Torturing, Killing Dog

Farms and things are not the same... they are inhumane but they are doing it for a reason! that is the difference they are doing it to get fur, or to get food, or to do research for humans. I am not arguing that research and things like that are legit... BUT THEY ARE FOR A REASON... these little bastards did this for kicks and giggles... they did it for the hell of it... that is why it is unreal...

A reason but not a good reason. You can say anything is for a reason, they could have said they did it to get back at an ex girlfriend. Is that reason enough? We don't need fur, so that is not a legit reason, we don't need animals for research so that is not a good reason and we do not need (nor are we supposed to) eat animals. I agree that it is more of a sickness to do it for just fun and not for money like my other stated examples. But look at the things that I mentioned, animals trained for circuses are beaten and tortured by sick people, with little difference of what those kids did. How about vivisectionists that beat the animals they are researching on? How about a livestock auctioneer beating a cow coming up for auction? There are needless examples of brutalitiy in every area that I have mentioned.

And how don't we need meat from animals? What? The life expectancy of humans would drop drastically if we did not eat meat....

Also almost every anti biotic that you will take in your life will have been tested on animals... It may not be humane but without it the human race would have a much shorter life expectancy

Please do some research before you speak. Eating a diet free from animal products is considerably healthier. I have been vegan for 15 years and am more healthy than any meat eater that I know. As for animal research goes, just because it has been tested on animals does not mean it had to be tested on animals. A lot of medicines would have been killed certain animals that are ok for human consumption. Asprin would kill a cat for example. Humans and animals do not the same biology to determine cures, just like not every animal has the same biology as another.

10 years seems like too light a sentence. The fact of the matter is that these boys did what they did sadistically. That is the sticking point here.

They knew that what they were doing was despicable; and yet not only did they do it, but they invited other children to come and see their work.

That is why this sentence is justifiable, if not too light.

I agree that my converstaion with themainj2001 was a bit off topic but it was a natural branch off of the original topic. Conversations naturally take on new lives as progress.

I was watching one of those documentary type shows about max security prisons and they talked to this guy who "nuked" a cat in the microwave. He was laughing about it as he was explaining what he did.

The entire episode is tragic, personally I can't imagine doing anything remotley that cruel to any living thing short of a cockroach and even then I wouldn't cook the thing. What ever made these kids behave this way is beyond me but it seems that they have ruined their lives trying to impress each other. Cruelty to animals is nothing new, I remember being really upset when I was a kid (around 10) after seeing some older teenaged guys squirt a cat with lighter fluid and then set fire to the poor thing. The cat ran for a few seconds screaming while the culprits stood there giggling like they were heroes. There was nothing I could do which made it worse. That happened around 50 years ago and I still think about it when I hear about animal abuse. What a world we live in.

ive already said it before here i have more compasion for animals than i do humans....family and friends aside (id bend over backwards for friends)....i fucking hate people...

i was in the boston common today with a friend going to pick up a buddy who was skating and the 1st thing outta my mouth was "i wish i had some bread id feed the ducks"

In Runaway Train(great flick imho), John Voight's character responds to being called an "animal" by saying, "Worse..........I'm human". Says it all.

I think the sentence to be fabulous, if not ten years too short.

Now, if this liberal on murder/yet tough on gambling bass-ackwards society we call America, would finally start giving convicted murderers sentences longer than 6/8/10/etc..like life for the one they took!..we might return to the solid society we were becoming in the first half of last century when the greatest generation came home from WW2 to progress the country with some morals, work ethic, and common sense.
