Aren't all these celebrities buying houses there? Beckham just bought a place on one of those islands.

Just remember not to eat in front of anyone there during Ramadan. They get very insulted. Eat in your room!!:puppy:

Yeah, saw a thing on TV about that, no rights and they don't have much of a choice but to work there or get deported back to even worse conditions or something. Long days, dangerous work.
Is this what you're going to be doing? I'm sure you can just work construction in the U.S., join a union and you'll be set...

I'll be doing computer upgrades if I do get selected. In most areas that have the construction work mentioned that has dangerous work conditions there are always computer jobs that are needed. When a country improves its infrastructure they also need to improve their computer systems.

I upgrade computer systems all over the country and occasionally internationally. Nothing is for certain though. It all depends on the selection process for my company. Not many people are willing to leave their families for 4 to 6 months so something like this is usually left up to us single guys.

Then I vote for "let it rip".

Hope you're not Jewish, Jews are not allowed in Dubai.

My boss asked me if my passport shows if I've been to Israel. So it's not just Jews that aren't allowed in.

Whenever I have a chance to travel abroad I go to the US State Department's web site and look at the consular information sheet on that country.

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1765.html

It states that if a person wants to work in Dubai they have to take an AIDS test. I think that means a blood test for the presence of the HIV virus.

In Palm Island, what does the little islands in Arabic mean surrounding the Palm?

The Palm, Jebel Ali began construction in October 2002 and is expected to be completed in mid 2008.[1] Once it has been completed it will be encircled by the Dubai Waterfront project. The project, which will be 50 percent larger than the Palm Jumeriah, will include six marinas, a water theme park, 'Sea Village', homes built on stilts above the water, and boardwalks that circle the "fronds" of the "palm" and spell out an Arabic poem by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum:[1]

Just got notice today that I will be in Dubai on March 4th, or as the Brits I will be working with write 04 March. I have to get used to Celsius temps too as it is 22 degrees there. The time is 12 hours opposite of Pacific time. I don't know if they have daylight saving time there or not.

I hope to be flying out of LAX on Monday, Feb.26 or maybe the following day. Let me know if you have any picture requests.

How long will you be there??? Will be in Thailand from March 26th-April 20th...

I'm scheduled to be there until July 31st for the first phase and then possibly until November for the second phase.

I don't think I'll be able to make to to Thailand during that time. How about later in the year? I'll be flying to Singapore for a little while and then to Thailand either June or later.

Have a great time. Watch out for the 120-130 Fahrenheit (48-54 Celsius) temps come July.

I used to live in Phoenix Woody so I know heat. However, I hear it's not a dry heat in Dubai since they are so near water.
