I've seen those pictures. Quite a bit of growth. That translates into job opportunities.

I just did some checking. The hotel shaped like a sailboat is Burj al Arab and Expedia.com has 1 night listed for just over US4000. It's the world's only 7-star hotel.

wow, does that include breakfast?

Apparently that place is tight as shit.
The only people they treat like crap are their own workers, who get paid nothing to make the crazy ass islands and hotels and shit.

That place looks awesome. I would go there in a heartbeat if someone was paying for it.

Also they're building a group of islands called "The World" there. Pretty cool fucking idea if you ask me.

I would DEFINITELY go. Think of all the great things you'll see, and stories you'll make. One word of warning is to make sure not to break any of the laws. I've seen articles about celebs partying over there, and getting arrested for LIFE just for trying to smuggle in some weed or blow.

Be sure to get a nice tennis match in while you're there!

Good Lord...I'd be careful about running back to the baseline from the net to catch up with a lob over my head.

It's a muslim country but not as strict as Saudi-Arabia and Dubai is the most liberal of the emirates. A lot of Saudi's go to Dubai to party and to get entertained by hookers (lots of Russian women). They have huge shopping malls and it's by far the best place to be when you are in the Middle-East. I wouldn't go there for a very long vacation, but a stopover of 2 or 3 days in Dubai can be fun from a tourist point of view and there are loads of expats in Dubai. Oman is also nearby and you can find some nice cultural stuff there.

Some pictures:

Ski Dubai

Dubai Mall

I just talked to my co-worker who was born in Syria. He said they have the largest indoor ski area, the largest mall, the soon-to-be tallest building, the largest underwater hotel.

There are quite a few Internet web sites that address that type of thing. It seems that every place has these "guest workers" that get significantly less than residents. That includes the US and places in Asia and Europe.

My co-worker says that these are all man-made islands and that Wayne Gretzky and Rod Stewart have bought islands here.

What work would you go over for?

I upgrade computer systems all over the country and occasionally internationally. Nothing is for certain though. It all depends on the selection process for my company. Not many people are willing to leave their families for 4 to 6 months so something like this is usually left up to us single guys.

Yeah, saw a thing on TV about that, no rights and they don't have much of a choice but to work there or get deported back to even worse conditions or something. Long days, dangerous work.
Is this what you're going to be doing? I'm sure you can just work construction in the U.S., join a union and you'll be set...
