You're right. Much more inspiring to our kids to hide down in the dark basement doing our secret little habits.
Amigo, the fact that we as adults do an activity does not deliver a message to our kids that it's okay for them to do it.
There are many things that adults do that are inappropriate for kids to do.
Do you also hide in the basement when you use the drugs alcohol, tobacco (if you use that) or other rx pharmaceuticals? If not, why not? Why would you openly acknowledge use of some drugs, but in the case of cannabis feel you need to hide in the dark basement to avoid detection?
Do you tell your kids that you and their mother never have sex for fear that your kids might think, "It's okay to have sex"?
barman you certainly are passionate about this issue. I don't think I've ever seen a pot thread go by without you in there fighting for "the cause". I only want to make one point, but I feel I should cover my bases first. I certainly have smoked weed over the years, but not for about 10 years or so. Just don't have the desire to, no other real reason. I have one child, an 18 year old daughter. I don't think she's smoked any pot...though I'm not 100% sure. If she hasn't yet, I realize she probably will at least try it someday.
Do I think it's more harmful than the other things you always refer to as drugs? Do I think it should be legal or not? Don't know and don't really care. My only point is that you always lump it in with alcohol, tobacco and pharmaceuticals...and that's fine for alot of your arguements. But like it or not (and I know you don't) as we speak marijuana is an illegal substance while those others are not. That is a big difference that you can't deny.
