Thank goodness you noticed this. I just found this thread and saw this.

If you are buying a laptop, I would seriously look at your needs (starting with screen size) for the computer and buy accordingly. It is much harder to upgrade a laptop.

Apple is much more expensive but they make pretty good machines....unless you are gonna use that boot camp thing you will find compatability issues a lot...hence my preference for virus-happy PCs

buy direct from the company. warranties are longer and most of the time included. plus you get free customer service. anti virus comes with most but it may not be the one you normally use .

dont try and save a few dollars by buying at a discount place.
office depot staples circuit city. they charge high premiums for warranty work and you may not get all the software

I bought a new laptop last month at best buy. It cost around $500 and it the ABSOLUTE best computer that I have ever owned BY FAR!!!

Why do people say this? I assume that you buy a new computer every few years and that each computer is better than the one you owned before it. Of course it is going to be better than your Apple II
