Guess if IOWA "doesnt have the athletes" like some claim, then KIRK FERENTZ must indeed be far and away the best coach in the nation by a considerable landslide considering their success the past four years with marginal athletes.

Ohio St crushes Texas in Austin?????

They may win with a little luck and a great game. But remember the heart of OSU was not at QB last year it was at linebacker and those horses are now playing on Sunday.

Texas has two big advantages or 3 if you count home field. A much better defense and possibly the best defense in the country and a dominate running attack. Are those enough to overcome a new red shirt freshman at the longhorn helm?? Dont know but I would lean on the Horns. They are tough at home and their defense is the real deal this year.

Come bowl season, one will look back on this OSU/TEXAS game and realize it was a very overrated and overhyped match-up.

#1 vs #2...............pleeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Kind of easy to proclaim the preseason 1 and 2 are over rated even though both finished in the top 5 last year and have most of their team returning.

Fish, tell us who you think should be 1 and 2??
Maybe Notre Dame..hmmm... the same Irish team that Ohio St destroyed?
Maybe USC?? hmm.. didnt Texas just beat them?? I think they did.
Maybe Oklahoma? How many games did they lose last year, was it 4?

Lot easier to say 1 and 2 are over rated. I want to see if you will go on a limb and give us your 1 and 2?????????

#1 AUBURN
#2 LOUISVILLE

In fact, the MIAMI FL @ LOUISVILLE game the week following the OHIO STATE @ TEXAS game is a match-up of great importance on par with the OSU/TEXAS and probably more so.

If LOUISVILLE gets by MIAMI, they are looking dead in the eye at a great chance of going undefeated.

Let's hope Miami takes Louisville because if not, they will most likely go unbeaten. Don't think playing in that crap ass conference should entitle anyone to national title game. Think SEC is too deep for Auburn to go unbeaten.

I was at the Iowa OSU game last year. Either Iowa had better be a LOT better or OSU a LOT worse or ....

OSU has scheduled home and homes with USC, Virginia tech, and Miami over the next 8 years

Yes, OSU has made it a point to schedule real teams. They are looking to even go to two real games like these before the Big10 but some of the small Ohio Scholes depend on their game every 3 years or so for their budget.

ND and OSU have a history of scheduling real schedules... Look at ND last year, this year... (Mich, USC, Tenn - that was 3 of the top 5 preseason last year) This year Mich, USC, Penn State, UCLA...

OSU has brought in UCLA, TX, WSU, ND, etc over the past 10 years and has great opponents going forward. Have heard rumors of ND again in the future.

Sure would like to see ND put BC back on the schedule..

No question AUBURN has the tougher path............with games @ SOUTH CAROLINA and @ ALABAMA. Not to mention the SEC TITLE game.

However, the non-conference schedule is not going to scare anybody..........

WASH ST
BUFFALO
TULANE
ARKANSAS ST...........all on their home turf

Furthermore, AUBURN only has FOUR road game the ENTIRE season..............

@ MISS ST.
@ S. CAR
@ MISS
@ ALABAMA

Considering they are an elite SEC team, this is one relatively weak schedule.

The schedules these teams are putting together tells me teams are expecting a playoff in a few years.

No way is USC playing ND, OSU and the pac 10 schedule; Miami playing OSU and an ACC schedule including FSU and OSU in the first few weeks, etc.... if teams don't expect a playoff soon..

Please note, Iowa DESTROYED OSU the previous year 33-7, so previous years match-ups mean a little, but not a whole lot.

The game you are refering to had IOWA coming into Columbus bruised and battered with injuries and OSU having a chip on their shoulder for being embarrassed the year before in IOWA CITY..................and the result was not shocking to me.

By the way, perhaps not by a LOT as you say..............but OSU is not near as good as last year and IOWA will be better.

Texas will beat Ohio State and Iowa will also beat them. home teams get it done in those two games. but I agree Ohio State should be - 3 or so at Iowa right now so that is an overlay.

Recent MICHIGAN-IOWA series

2005 MICHIGAN 23-20
2004 MICHIGAN 30-17
2003 IOWA 30-27
2002 IOWA 34-9 (biggest loss ever in big house for MICH)
2001 MICHIGAN 32-26
2000 X
1999 X
1998 MICHIGAN 12-9
1997 MICHIGAN 28-24

If my math is correct, MICH has outscored IOWA by one point in the past 7 meetings between the two.

It would appear to this observer that IOWA competes very well with the great big BLUE.

I enjoyed the 2002 game. Just seems like games Iowa are expected to win vs good teams, they fall short more often than not. I must lose more of those than any others.

Name the top high school skill players he gets. When I look at the recruiting, most of the top qb's, rb's, wr's are not considering Iowa, nor do they get much out of Florida or California. I do remember when Hayden Fry was there, he built a nice little pipeline to Texas for talent. He is a great gameday coach though.

OSU was very poor on short-yardage situations yesterday.

IOWA had a top FIVE recruiting class in 2005.........and one that should pay handsome dividends down the road.

Maybe its just the system they play that doesn't translate well. Mich St gets a lot of great skilled players, but they have had a run on bad coaches since Saban left.
