Thanks guys. I spent the extra to get all of the results. I think the math is good, but the verbal is not. I have zero knowledge in this area. He is applying and getting scholarship help on his own. Probably does not help having me as a dad, but can't trade me. Any suggestions would be more than welcome...OF

OF: if he's into video games, there are a number of SAT software you can buy which make studying all those words a bit more fun. I had some, and it was worth the investment, it had practice tests I could run and critique my results.

If he was a junior then his math is above average and slightly above average if he was a senior. His verbal score is average either year. This score would get him into most state schools and above average private schools if he has good extracurricular participation. You should also expect 40-80 points of total improvement from Junior to Senior year SAT scores.

IVY league? Shit, that's way out of my league. Just hoping for a couple of years of CA state whoever, then maybe Berkeley, UC Davis, or Stanford if all goes well. Keep him close to nest. But in the meantime, he will not plan to retake, he will study, play the test drill games, and retake until he gets a can't turn down score. Yes, that was the ultimate rich white teen fantasy movie. A note about retaking the SATs... most universities take the average of all your SAT results. Ergo, you quickly achieve diminishing returns.
2 better strategies, if he wants scholarships/better schools. 1. Work on his GPA. 3.0 is a "key number" much as it is in the NFL. 2. Get a nice extracurricular list. If he's an officer of a club, and a varsity letterman in some sport (in some sports, this just means going to practice everyday, which is time consuming), his "package" will get a lot more respect from admissions offices.
Now, if he has a full 2 years to go, and you are in a major metro area, here's a secret to getting scholarships. Have him study fencing. A person with minimal coordination who is in decent shape can become a good fencer in a year, IF you spend money for teaching. Think of it as a 2k investment that will save you 40k in tuition. I should add that he needs a 3.0 and a 1250 SAT. If he fences seriously for a couple years, many quality schools that are otherwise unattainable will look at him (Military academies, Notre Dame, even Duke if GPA/SAT are higher... to name a few from my experience).
