Valueman, a crew from the UK came to Las Vegas and attempted to book horses using fixed odds

WTF -- were they insane ??

Valueman -- how can one lose on Betfair if one has the most accurate market in the world for a particular horse racing market??

Where do you people come from?
What planet exactly?

quote:
English and European bettors are more clever than American bettors. be it sports or horses.

More clever=what exactly? Where did low juice originate? Blokes still betting into high juice three ways in golf and soccer like you did for the previous 200 yrs?

WillHill-nice job in the American market? Let's see now we're going to blow a half mill tryiing to penetrate a market, than when we realize that customer acquisition costs are >$50 a head we flee tail between legs.

Crack me the phuck up, yea you guys clever if you want to include shot taking, scamming and odds manipulation.

Sport of Kings would still be open today if they didn;t offer fixed odds betting on bush league tracks. They got beat by scammers at crap tracks manipulating prices, given how clever you all are, I am surpised such a small thing like pool manipulation would be their downfall.

Rip the parimutual system all you like,
$15Billion in handle annually in thoroughbred racing alone in the USA thru the tote system, probably another $15billion bet by americans else where.

Yea we all dumb morons.

BTW how ironic is it that with all you clever folk around,

ITP is the only guy thus far to definitively answer the posters question from first hand experience?

Think one of you clever guys would actually leave the theoretical world once in a while, and actually figure out the answers to the original question.

Sodium,

You love to mention this everytime you want to prove how big betting is in the US, as much as I would like to prove that betting on the European football is even bigger and you are right according to these figures:

But did you know that it is even almost double in Japan?

sodium pent - I am not saying US bettors are a bunch of morons for betting Pari mutuel - but its a question of choice.

You don't miss fixed odds because you've never had it. In the UK they have the choice of fixed odds, SP, pari mutuel, early morning fixed odds, ante post and exchanges. This competition gives the bettor more choice and competition drives down juice. If in the US you had these options you would feel the same way as i do about pari mutuel - ignorance is bliss for you in this instance.

Your examples of high juice bookies in the UK are old school - the fact they have a preference for 3 options as oppose to 2 is merely their tradition and is not a prerequisite for higher juice.

I'm not going to harp on about BF as it seems to do something to your nervous system but soccer 0.2 - 0.8% juice isn't exactly high juice in my book - if you choose to bet at WHill or Ladbrokes etc that is your choice the same as betting -110 instead of -105.
