[h=1]Obamacare's Prognosis Grows Dimmer[/h]
A nightmare for Affordable Care Act supporters has been the possibility that only the sick would be left to purchase insurance through its exchanges, driving premiums up and insurers out. While the law’s boosters have been quick to dismiss the possibility that such a so-called death spiral could occur, data published in the Wall Street Journal suggest that this chain of events may not be so far-fetched after all.
the data suggest that insurers will respond to having to cover more people who are relatively sicker by raising premiums in 2015 and beyond. As Chet Burrell, the chief executive officer of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, concluded, “Over a period of time, the rates have to go up to catch up with the reality of who enrolled.”

Probably part of that $2,500 in savings for the average family!

People shouldn't be getting anything preventive anyway according to ACE. ACE says preventive care doesn't save lives.

He said that? So knowing the hereditary factors Darryl Strawberry's kids shouldn't have a colonoscopy every 5 years starting at the age of 40? And if you experienced several bad sunburns as a child and/or notice some rough patches on your skin you shouldn't visit a dermatologist? Oh well, might as well dump my 81mg enteric coated aspirin down the sink as well. Who knew!

My Dad died of colon cancer 14 years ago(he never had a colonoscopy) and I've had 2 colonoscopies since I turned 50 and will get one every 5 years for rest of my life. I feel very confident that I will never go thru what my Dad did because of this preventive care. BTW, tomorrow I am attending a funeral for a coworker(he was 55, 3 years younger than me) who also had colon cancer. He never had a colonoscopy either. Regardless of what Ace thinks or says, preventive care does save lives.

Wise choice especially with the heredity factor going against you.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/06/29/primary-care-shortage-health/11101265/

Federally funded programs will add at least 2,300 new primary care practitioners by the end of 2015, but the funding for at least one of those programs is set to expire at the same time, contributing to a massive shortage of doctors available to treat patients — including those newly insured through the Affordable Care Act and Medicare.

Boy, no one saw that coming!

Oh, wait...never mind. Everyone with half a brain did.

HHS Report: 1,295,571 Obamacare Enrollees May Not Be Legal Citizens A devastating new Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General report released on Tuesday reveals that the Obama administration has yet to determine whether 1,295,571 of the over 8 million Obamacare enrollees are U.S. citizens lawfully in the country. The finding, located on page 11 of the report, states that 44% of the remaining 2,611,780 application "inconsistencies" are related to verifying "Citizenship/national status/lawful presence." Another 960,492 application inconsistencies were related to verifying whether subsidy applicants provided accurate income information. Moreover, the Inspector General report only covered the federal Obamacare exchanges to determine how the Obama administration resolved verification problems through December 2013. As for the 15 state-run Obamacare exchanges, the report says four--Oregon, Nevada, Vermont, and Massachusetts--are simply "unable to resolve inconsistencies." As the Washington Post reported in May, as many as one million Obamacare enrollees may be receiving incorrect taxpayer-funded subsidies due to Obamacare's continued technical failures and inability to properly verify income and citizenship eligibility. One year ago, conservatives warned that the Obama administration's decision to use the so-called "honor system" for income eligibility was merely a backdoor way to get as many individuals on the public dole as possible. The Office of Inspector General determined that "the federal marketplace was generally incapable of resolving most inconsistencies." Obamacare will cost U.S. taxpayers $2.6 trillion over the next ten years.

LAS VEGAS ***************

Time ran out for Linda Rolain.

The Las Vegas woman died Monday, less than two weeks after her family went public with details about Nevada Health Link insurance exchange enrollment troubles that kept her from treatment in January for an aggressive brain tumor.

Rolain was one of about 150 Nevadans suing Nevada Health Link contractor Xerox for enrollment mix-ups that left them without the health insurance they paid for.

Rolain is the first to die of complications from an illness said to have gone untreated for lack of coverage. But observers close to her case say she may not be the last.

For all who said, give it time, well times up.

WASHINGTON — Federal officials can’t resolve 85 percent of 2.9 million “inconsistencies” on applications for ObamaCare even after nine months of trying, according to new data provided by the administration.

Most of the problems involve certifying citizenship and income, key components of the national health plan.

But some of the problems are downright nutty.

One unidentified state-run marketplace cited situations in which infants and young children were “erroneously identified as incarcerated, according to federal data,” the inspector general for the Health and Human Services Department revealed Tuesday.

Just 425,000 problematic applications have been resolved out of 2.9 million that states and the federal exchange reported, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told The Post.

Only citizens are eligible for ObamaCare, and only people at certain income levels are eligible for tax credits and subsidies.

But in 77 percent of the applications under scrutiny, federal records differed from what applicants submitted on those two key qualifications.

The CMS responded that the agency is “committed to verifying the eligibility of consumers who apply for enrollment in qualified plans.”

Good for you. I feel so much better knowing that.

First it was Virginia then Connecticut now New York.

Insurance companies operating in New York State's marketplace are expected to ask for double-digit premium hikes next year, according to new filings from the companies.

Capital New York reports the average requested increase was 13%. The New York Post reports that number at about 12%. But the bigger insurers are seeking a bigger premium hike — according to Capital, the six most popular plans in New York are requesting an average increase of almost 15%.

According to a report released by the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services earlier this month, “the online federal marketplace could not resolve nearly 90 percent (or 2.6 million) of its 2.9 million data ‘inconsistencies,’ which include citizenship status, income, incarceration status, and Social Security numbers.”
