O/T: Spouse not invited to wedding

My wife is going to a wedding tonight for a co-worker. The person invited a few people from her work but their spouses were not invited. I have never heard of someone doing this. I could care less to go but it sparked a debate between my wife and I. I think its rude to invite someone to your wedding but not their spouse and she doesn't think so. I think she would feel differently if it was me invited and not her, but she says no. What do you guys think? Is it rude or not?

Its up to the person who is getting married, I wouldnt want a bunch of strangers staring at me on an important date like that and especially wouldnt feel like picking up their tab in the end.

Absolutely unheard of and extremely rude. There is an unwritten rule that married couples if they are being invited as friends of either the bride or the groom should BOTH be invited.

People like vendors, musicians, catereers etc are a different story.

It's rude not to invite the spouse. Girlfriend/boyfriend I can understand, but the spouse should always be invited.

Sit back and enjoy the time alone at home and be thankful you don't have to go to the wedding, I know I sure would.

Not trying to be a dick but are you sure this is the truth? Maybe she doesnt want you there for some reason. Like I said not trying to be an ass to you so please dont take it like that, if anything I am trying to help you out but this would honestly be the first thing I would think of if I was in your boat.

Back in the day when I was in a failing realtionship this is the crap me and my GF use to pull on each other, I have also had buddies tell their GF/wives the same thing to get them from not going, I am just saying.

The only way I could see doing this is if:

The spouse is disliked by those throwing the wedding ( and their guests), and for a very solid reason.

The spouse is in Iraq, or hospitalized, in prison,etc.

It might not be cool to invite the spouse if you know he won't be out for 5-10 years.
