Wow. Now they're saying the Seattle player illegally batted the ball out of the end zone(he did), and it should have been Detroit's ball, 1st and goal at the inch line. I guess they're gonna get the old NFL apology letter. I did not know that rule. I've seen players bat the ball out of the end zone before. Many Seattle Survivor Contest Players are breathing a sigh of relief.
I didn't think he was allowed to bat the ball out like that. I didn't know the rule either. Appears that no one else did as well. No mention from the Booth of it, DET Coach doesn't raise hell....refs were unconcerned. When I saw it my immediate thought was: "
Oh, thats not good." but then nothing came of it so I thought "
well may be there is no rule against it but seems like its odd that its allowed".
Where he was though & where the ball was (both so close to the back line) I think if he tries to recover the ball he can't before he goes out of bounds and in trying to recover the ball he knocks it out of bounds anyway....so....
...maybe its an "interpretation" rule, like...based on the situation, in this case the proximity of Player + Ball to Back Line????
Which is why the refs did not pursue it?
