Same thing happened in cleveland several times this year. just like LY. Replay needs to be used in every call. Funny how they made the rules to limit what can be reviewed and reversed?

NFC North:

Packers 5-1
Vikings 4-2
Bears 3-2
Lions 2-2-1

NFC North (if Lions won)

Lions 3-1-1
Packers 4-2
Vikings 4-2
Bears 3-2

Refs inability to get basic calls correct are literally the difference between first place and last place for the Lions

Not cool - Big Swing on those standing

Also, why didnt Detroit coach Challenge that PI call for themselves?

NFL is a business, its like asking a business whether they would like their new ad to win an advertising award or increase profits. Both would be nice but the trophy is always going to be an afterthought,

You can also add in addition to that the 5 FGs DET settled for.. Make 1 TD they win.. Refs did screw them tho..

I had GB -4.. OMG score the TD at the end :(

after seeing Tout total 10-0 on Over (or whatever it ended at) you “knew” it would end on 45 vs 49

Maybe watched 5 minutes and haven’t seen highlights..

Notoriously Fixed League moniker stays on....sad, I actually used to watch a whole games years ago

TR: So you are saying the NFL fixed the total to be an under? For Vegas? That is a reach if I ever saw one...

  • I think the players these days are too strong and way too fast for the refs, and more importantly, the players have found ways to cheat. Eg last night the head snap both times when #90 pushed OL players upper pads (not face) deked refs into assuming it was illegal contact to the face
  • I also think, yes, that sometimes a ref will help a team for his own wager, but it is rare.
  • I also think, yes, that sometimes a ref (or a few in the same game) are secretly instructed to help one team for better NFL brand recognition, better ratings for the playoffs.
But I do not believe that Vegas controls the refs for outcomes, and especially not an over / under, give me a break.

Try officiating a game sometime.

I am as annoyed as anyone else by refs controlling the game, but they are an essential part of the game and their job is more difficult than people imagine.

I tried spotting the ball in a game once and it's amazing how much of a guess it is with everything moving so fast and chaotic - the pro refs still get it right most of the time...

I do agree though that NFL officials should be made full time employees with extra training in the offseason, there is simply too much money on the line.

They have a good system in College, if any of the calls seem close the replay official takes a look and they seem to end up with the right call, and the game proceeds.

Not rocket science.

I would think that the zebras would like this to protect them from the consequences of making a blatantly obvious bad call, at least obvious to the TV viewers who get the benfit of replay.

Good point about college - isn't every single play reviewed? Not for pass interference, of course, but blatant error corrections. It doesn't seem to slow the game down much, NFL should consider it

Hey Serbone,
No, I don’t think that the refs are controlled by Vegas.

I relate all the “conspiracy theories” or “superstitions” to Craps players who “know” when the dice bounce off the table the next roll will be a 7.

We all have short term memory or just remember when “everyone is on Over” but they kicked FG’s all day and whatever caused it to go under.

Like crazykind said it’s not easy to officiate. I’ve done all except football and soccer. You can only call what you see.

With so much coverage, slow mo, and reality that a penalty happens on every play, we gamblers are going to get upset when the break doesn’t go our way.

So what I’ve done to avoid getting too upset over a stupid game is bet little and watch less.

It’s just nice to have games not impacted by so many flags late in a game.

Agree.

Again, athletes are too strong and fast for the officials these days, and have figured out how to game the system.

Or maybe (sigh) add a few more officials onto the field.

Or maybe increase the penalty yardage for certain infrractions to reduce the NUMBER of penalties in a game.

Eg, certain downs, field postition, yardage and clock/game situations, DBs are rewarded for holding calls (5 yards), it they get away with it, fine, if not, it's only 5 yards.

yup, how many times have we heard 'a hold can be called on every play' and 'that's not PI, that's just hand-fighting' - the rules are subjective and thus will always be subject to controversy

Some teams like the Patriots clearly coach their DBs to walk the line since the reward is so high, and I'm sure linemen are taught sneaky ways to hold etc

Btw, on both of those controversial calls on Trey Flowers last night - i agree he didn't put his hands to the face but he sure as hell had a hold of the guy lol

TRY opening your eyes and telling the difference of hands to the CHEST and hands to the FACE and "missing" that call more than once on the same player, where it actually determined the outcome. This has nothing to do with game speed and everything to do with an agenda.

I agree with you here, but we differ on whose agenda we are talking about :)!/
