Stay in Tahoe for the scenery, go to Reno if you want to win. I love Harrahs Reno. Huge place ,good eats, and you dont need to leave. Atlantis is nice and I hear great things about the new remodeled Peppermill.

Booked 5 nights at Harrah's Lake Tahoe in June. Got a really good deal on hotwire...

You wont be disapointed. Nice thing about Harrahs is they have a tunnel under the street that takes you to Harveys. You can use the outdoor pool and spa at Harveys which is really nice. Harrahs pool is ok but is is indoor. The hosts at Harrahs are very nice so be sure to go in and let em know you are there. Have fun

Trip Report

Stayed at Harrahs South Lake Tahoe (Sun -> Fri) this week. Had a great time.

Monday - Drove through Emerald Bay, and hiked Eagle Falls, and one other waterfall trail:

Spent a couple hours at Kiva Beach, as it's the only dog-friendly beach on Tahoe, and our
friends had their dogs with them: http://dogtrekker.com/yp/kiva-beach-south-lake-tahoe-96150

Tuesday: Rode the Heavenly Gondola up to 9,123 feet, to the observation deck, and then to the resort
at the top. Then hiked up to 10,000 feet on the Nevada side

Wednesday - Hiked Cascade Falls Trail:

Then spent a couple hours relaxing at Pope Beach:

Then we chartered a private dinner/sunset cruise on the lake,

(Outstanding)

Thursday we took a day trip to Grover Hot Springs State Park, and hiked the waterfall trail, and
then relaxed in the hot springs:

I got some gambling in, the BJ isn't great. There is a lot of 6/5 blackjack which I refuse to play. I did find some 3/2 double decks, but you
can only double on 8,9,10,11 - and no DAS. Lakeside Inn Casino about 1 mile from Harrahs had a $5 min double deck game with those rules.
That place looks like it's a local hangout, and looked like it hasn't changed since the 60's/70's. There was also the same DD game at
Harrah's that varied from $10/$25 min throughout the day. We ended up playing our BJ at Harvey's (which is owned by Harrah's) and did alright.
I played a little bit of video poker, mostly when waiting for poker tables to open up. The only full-pay video poker I found in South Lake Tahoe
was at Mont Bleu, which is kind of a dump of a place - a lot of penny slots... The only poker tables were at Harveys, and was a loose $2/$3 NL game.

We loved the area, and plan on going back, and probably bringing the kids.

[ Apologies to Reno Chazz, hoped to catch a beer with you, but we never had a moment to spare. Next time. ]

Something happened at the poker table I'd never seen before.

The fish at the table got involved in a huge pot, where he ended up calling off his last ~$100 in the pot after the turn, on a flush and
straight draw - he also had top pair... something like K6 diamonds. When his draw didn't come in, and he realized he had lost
~$300 pot he ripped his cards in half and threw them in the muck.

Everyone looked at each other like "WTF just happened?" The funny thing is, they didn't do anything to the guy, except for
ask him to please not do that again, which in retrospect I think was great, because everyone knew he was a donkey, and
we were all there to try and extract money from him - which we all did.

We probably did... I did most of my gambling at Harveys. How are the rooms there? When I got the package deal at Harrahs through Hotwire,
I compared with Harveys, and Harveys was a bit more expensive, so I chose Harrahs. Since everything is so close, I think I'd stay
anywhere on that block. I'm not sure how the rooms are at Hard Rock, but I explored the casino/hotel a bit, and it look ok.

We stayed at Harrahs 2 years ago. I thought the rooms were comparable.

Harveys rooms were just as nice as all the mid-level Caesars properties in Vegas.

We stayed at Harveys this time because the rooms were comped on my total rewards account. But like $59 to stay at Harrahs. So we chose free.

Probably prefer Harveys casino though because of the Sportsbook. I did think it was dumb on Wednesday night when they shut down the book at like 8pm with a bunch of baseball games still undecided. You don't really see that in Vegas.

Supposed to spend a week in South Lake Tahoe in early August.

Anyone have any insight on the current Covid status? Is the California side shutting everything down?

LOL, I started reading through the thread thinking it was your trip report from your current trip. Then I realized you bumped a 5 year old thread. I would really appreciate a trip report when you return. I'm assuming you saw mine from Vegas. I have another trip planned for Sept on a comp at the Venetian and a dirt cheap r/t on Frontier, but I'm seriously thinking of bagging it and looking for an alternative. At least in Tahoe, you can get a hike or two in without being muzzled. My wife is going to San Francisco so I have a hall pass for about 5 days. Btw, what airline do you normally use? I'm assuming you fly into Reno and do the hour drive?

L5Y, USC is 4-0 vs SEC, outscoring them 167-48!!!

Just spent the weekend there 2 weeks ago. Tahoe is still open. We rented a boat and had a great time on the lake. The boat company is wide open. The casinos on the border are wide open. its unique because it's borders Nev / CA. The populace of people wearing masks are mixed. Some with some without.

Outdoor seated restaurants are open and theres a ton of them. Even though the governor shut down most of the state the municipalities are still running on their own
Covid #s did spike there.
