Tenn. State (3-15) and Austin Peay (5-11) square off at the Dunn center in Clarksville Tn.
These are both terrible teams, bad teams, but in capping games I am looking for a soft spot, I’m looking for value and in this gem of a game I think and feel I have value and a nice soft spot. Picking up a win here is the same as picking up a win and a few units as betting on a mar-key big time game such as Louisville vs Duke. A win is a win. They all pay the same.
In the last 10 games that these teams have played dating back to Jan. 2009 they have split 5 wins apiece. In those games only one time has Austin Peay beaten Tenn. State by more than 10 points and that was in Feb. 2012 and the score at half time of that game Austin Peay led by 10 and ended p winning by 15. In the other 4 losses that Tenn. State had they loss by 10, 6, 2 and 4 points.
Austin Peay comes in losing their last 3 by 16, 12 and 29 points to Tenn. Tech, Jacksonville State and Mississippi.
The Governors enter the contest 0-2 in OVC play and 5-11 overall, but the more disturbing aspect of the Govs three-game losing streak has been an offense that has failed to score more than 60 points in each of those contests. The Govs also have failed to shoot more than 40 percent in each of those games. The Govs committed a total of 37 turnovers during the OVC-opening weekend, including a season-high 21 against Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee State, picked to finish last in the OVC East, comes in with an extremely young team, starting multiple freshmen. As a result, the Tigers are 3-15 on the season and 0-3 in the OVC. I watched the entire game between Tenn. State and the Tenn. Vols and the Vols led 29-26 at half time and for around 32 minutes Tenn. State gave the Vols all it could handle and looked like a upset in the making until the Viols woke up and won by 20 but did not cover. Tenn.. State is young and has potential.
These two schools are separated by about 63 miles right down Interstate24 and many of these guys play pick up ball together in Nashville in the summer (they are familiar with one another) .
Austin Peay’s has only two D1 wins against North Florida by 5 and against try by 3 both at home. Their other wins have been against non D1 teams such as Webster University, Bryan college, Berea and Oakland City College.
The underdog is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings. Tenn. State will keep this game within the number. I like this game.
My pick Tenn. State +10 5 units……….. my biggest play of the year
