Vegas is a great place to visit ( I do twice a year) but to live there. Dunno!!! Sure the "escape" of leaving your average life for one in Sin City sounds like the balls but with all the other gaming options available you should ponder your move long and hard.
exactly. Ask Fishhead about living there ...im sure he has a plethora of stories

Okay. Say I do keep my job here in Average town, USA. I'm afraid to keep anymore than $1,000 in any books right now for fear of whats going to happen. I won't resume funding internet books until September '07.

Locals are a hassle. You can't always get in touch with them, and the lines they give u suck (at least mine does).

Just looking for alternate ways.

Sports betting wouldnt be my sole form of income if I moved out there. Just one form

I suggest you give it a shot.

BBBBBBut, prior to going, get a Bo Flex, and have your teeth capped.

That way you can sumplement your income by being a male dancer.

Mental Discipline

If you really believe that at 23 and just out of college; making 45K/yr is shitty then you still have a lot to learn. Play off shore for awhile and practice good money management principles. See how it goes while you also grow more mature. "Everyone has a plan until they get hit" Mike Tyson. Play smart use good handicapping techinques coupled with your own style, don't be a hog as they have a tendency to get slaughtered.
There is no easy road to success.

" There were always people that were stronger then me"
" There were always people that were faster than me"
" But no one could out work me."

if you dont have a wife and kids......... and your only 23, with a degree..

id say, go for it...... give it your all........... and if you fail, you fail........ give it 2 yrs....... have a detailed plan though.............

you can always go back into banking........

there is a lot to be said for, going for your dreams.................

if you dont do this, you will always wonder, "what if"........

take your 30k, rent you a place, put away at least 6 months worth of bills, in an emergency fund and work about 20hrs per week.......

good luck and i hope you go for it...........

Let me tell you........ im almost 40, 6 more months........ i have finally realised what my dream is.......... and i have an 18 month plan to get there...... working each day toward it, and checking off the calendar.....

mine is a full time trader.........

drop daytrading and move more to short term, position trading, if you go down that road..........

This is a rash judgement in my opinion. To think you can get the lines and juice you would need to be able to give it a legit go is silly.

How can you say 45K at 23 is not good money. You should be investing in property outside bigger cities. Not trying to be a gambling pro. God isn't making anymore land last I checked. If you are looking to move that one thing but to move out to Vegas with the dream of gambling is very very high risk. I mulled that very same decision when I was about 24. I am glad I didn't do it. I would have been living in a box with the way I gamblrd.

So I say buy property buy as much as you can get. This country is gaining people at a faster rate than ever before.

Just go. If you don´t make it in sportsbetting you can always grind it out in Poker. Just learn how play. Takes about 2 months at the most to learn enough if you really try. Lots of bad players there will hand you their money.

Not sure what your defintion of a local giving you a shitty line is but if his numbers are even a half point off (esp dogs) than you are sitting on absolute GOLDMINE. Kick him in the teeth if you 100% trust him because he would do the same to you. I am up over $1,200 beating non-moving the number locals in less than a week. Easiest money I have ever won.

If you're making 45k a year forget about Vegas. You sure the hell aren't going to make that kind of money in Vegas betting on your own! GET REAL! Stay where you are and collect your money and go to Vegas after your retirement!

If you're still young and unattached, I say go for it. You only live once and it's better to do it now then regret that you didn't do it 10 years down the road.

Stay put, do not go that sandtrap, play offshore and get a good local, LV and the Sportsmarket are no more, you have to do immense legwork just to bet a few dimes at generic numbers.

Billy Walters(widely hailed the greatest sportbettor ever), Bob Martin(widely regarded the greatest BM ever), and Stu Ungar(considered by many fellow pros the greatest poker player ever),etc..all share the common thread of having went broke numerous times and needing backing..and they played in eras of a much more beatable sports market.

Most all wiseguys and pros that I've known, and/or met, despite connections, information, softer markets, and having gambling educations you'll never know..have went bust numerous times..quite a few after having to never need again in life should they stop and walk away..some lucky to win it again, and/or later in careers if wiser, or get fat and walk while fattened up large into other endeavors..or before divorce, their health, and/or the many tolls of gambling(legal, familial, social, spiritual, physical, etc..) ravaged their lives on solo or multiple levels..

And 20K isn't a real "moving to LV" sized bankroll, stay put, learn your craft from home, LV is a rough environment full of vice for ones lacking extreme discipline..

Go to LV only if prepared to stay in your banking industry, and attempt to supplement your income via Sportsbetting.

Being twentysomething and heading to LV with "any" sized bankroll to be a pro on your own devices is foolish at best.

Be careful what you wish for!

Prophet A GREAT Point Of View

Especially the "regret" part. I`m now older than both of you guys combined. And I was a "Hell Raiser" in my salad days. I don`t regret one wild chance I took. I DO however regret chances I passed on. The point being is as Prophet said @23, if you`re single take a flyer on a dream. If you don`t you`ll always think back and play "what if"! Now what Green D had to say is not wrong either, 45 G @ your age is NOT shitty and life in SD or SF is great, and the ladies are everywhere. Going to LV 3 or 4 times a month could appease your "Jones". Either way you can`t go wrong. God how I wish I could guide you thru the next 25 yrs. Find a partner, life is better that way.

Pollution (air quality is terrible), Oppressive (And don't fall for the "it's a dry heat",lol)heat, Gangs, Horrible traffic (only place i have ever been where all 4 sides in a traffic intersection have a red light at the same time), High cost of living (it is not the Vegas of 10 years ago), CRIME that is 3x the Usa average, Degenerates all around you (How many pawn shops are there in vegas,1000?).....
All that to get some action? Forget it.

Check out http://www.bestplaces.net/city/Profile.aspx?city=Las_Vegas_NV&cat=CRIME
read the stories posted by Vegas residents and new comers. All you need to know.

Also, ask Fishead. That guy saw it all in Vegas. Who better to know the town inside out then a guy who drove a cab there. Ask him how it was 20 years ago compared to now. He's a honest guy who tells it like it is, I'm sure he will tell you the same.

Also ask Illini, He went out there with the same aspirations, People on here warned him but he was set in his mind that he would last. How long before he high tailed it out of there? 4 months?

I did it too 6 years ago. Went in with the same plans exactly like another poster put it (Drive in in a $20,000 car drive out in a $250,000 bus). Except for me i came in with 97' Vette and left in a 97' Intrepid with tail snugly stashed between my legs.

That town will eat people alive if not careful. If you have any kind of problem whether it's Gambling, Booze, Drugs etc... Vegas will exploit it in you and destroy you with it. I had a friend who i used to talk to at the Stardust. He moved from Iowa with about $15k. First 6 moths he was fine, ran a gym, Had a nice place in Summerlin, Had good luck with football........4 months later he was living in his van, Broke and soon after was arrested for stealing petty cash from his job. And this guy was a straight laced guy when he got to Vegas. I'm sure those stories are a dime a dozen there.
