I you had Olympic and just one other decent reduced juice out, you'd get down more volume than in Vegas.

Why not be smart---

If you are a great gambler, you can make money betting anywhere in the country...If I was you have fun but be smart...Look for a job in vegas or somewhere else fun...personally---Vegas will kill you at your age especially if you drink like me....My advice...get a banking job in SD making 40k a year, enjoy the girls, weather and life and be a quick trip to vegas for the weekends....You will have the best of both world and will never leave SD probably. Option too...Look for a job somewhere else fun..I could name a bunch of places in my life and work where I would love to be, but in CT with family it doesn't work anymore

u can do it but don't quit your job yet. you'll need it. you can get better numbers establishing outs with locals than u could in vegas. i'd be careful with the offshore joints for now.

good post (esp about locals).

:ohno: 45k a year at 23. Wouldn't call it shitty. And you work "banker's hours".
Please stay where you are for your sake.

If the kid goes to Vegas, he'll be selling his ass to eat in about 6 weeks....that's my hunch.

Here's my story:

23 yr old. Just graduated college in May. Recently got a job as a banker, making a shitty $45,000 a year. Don't mind it, but don't love it. Starting to play with the idea of moving to Vegas to pursue sports betting dreams. I feel like I'm losing out on life if I dont try this out once in my life.

I'm young so I can afford to go broke if it doesn't work out.

Anyone else have this crazy idea, and if so did u go through with it, and how did it work out ?

ps: who wants to join

I want numbers...how much of a bankroll would you be going out with?

I hate to "rot" the sugar plums dancing in your head, but please seriously
reconsider. Las Vegas is NOT the the fairytale land portrayed on TV and
advertisements. If you had a $75,000/yr job waiting, or you were stuck in
a sub-30K a year job, that's one thing, but your sportsbetting venture is
a huge favorite to fail miserably. $45K yr ain't that bad at 23.

Don't take my word for it though, try this......

Take a 1 or 2 (if possible) week vacation from your job-
Before you go, get set up to "work." Plan your unit size,
send a cashiers check, large enough to cover a bad run,
to the Casino cage that will be your main hangout

1)Don't do anything but work while you're there. Find +EV
on sports bet and that's it. Work 80 hours per week so that
you can get a taste of what it's really going to be like.

2)Don't party or go to shows, just work. See if you really
dig betting sports in Vegas. Most importantly make damn
sure you are betting with an edge.

Several experienced posters have given you some excellent advice. It would be in your best interest to carefully consider it.

how much of a bankroll are you starting with? I think without 20k you will be playing with scared money and unless you are putting 150k a month thru betting wise than it wouldn't be worth it. If you win 2% on your money bet you will make 3k a month which is OK money. Just my opinion.

I am always curious as to why people would move to Vegas if their dream is sports betting. Vegas won't even take real bets anymore.

Go for it!!! All of us "older" guys wish we would have done something like this when we were young but most were to scared to pull the trigger. If you do decide to go, listen and learn from some of the experienced guys in the rx. Do it right! Have a plan and stick to it. GL

Go for it. Don't let frustrated old Anti-Liberal deter you. He's just running out the clock in Florida wishing he had done something with his life.

anyone seen his mySpace acct?

On a serious note, I believe I recall a year back or so you said your folks died in a car wreck and you got a pretty good chunk of change and were in the market for a 50k+ or more car?

be careful at this age, believe me. i wanna say your loot is held up in trust so that could be a good thing

really think hard about this. ideally in my latter years, i'd love to stay there September-late April and live elsewhere in the summer. You live there in the summer you'll fry alive if you're used to COnn. weather

Think snow

Think TAHOE

Mark Twain dubbed Tahoe the 8th wonder of the world.

As a matter of fact Mark Twain named Heavenly Valley.

Be smart and stay the hell where you are. Dreams get broken pretty quickly in Vegas.

By all means... GO. You are definitely young enough to try it out. If it works out, great. If not, enjoy yourself for a couple years and move on. I graduated from law school and left the next week for Vegas. I lived there with my wife for 2 years before moving to Arizona. I would NEVER take back those two years. Some of the best memories. After 7 years or so in AZ, I am now looking to buy a small 2 BD condo or townhome to have to visit when I want.

Do it.

Sorry to take so long to post, been busy. But thanks for the posts.

FYI, if I do plan to move out there, it would be with a 30k b-roll. I'd think about getting a shit job 20 hrs a week to pay off some bills. Also been getting my feet wet with daytrading and swing trading.

Bankers hours are a thing of the past: 9-6 is my work schedule.

$45,000 pre tax = about $34000 post-tax. Nothing special.

But I do think I will take the advice of taking a 2 week vacation out there and trying out the work. See what I think of it.

I might also get a local.

It just seems tough for me to go throw a substantial amount of money into offshore at this point in time.

Forget about it. It will not work. I repeat, it will not work!
On the other hand, why not consider taking a banking job in Las Vegas?
The real money in Las Vegas is not in sports books, but in land. With a
bank behind you, you can get lots of land. Think about it.

Vegas is a great place to visit ( I do twice a year) but to live there. Dunno!!! Sure the "escape" of leaving your average life for one in Sin City sounds like the balls but with all the other gaming options available you should ponder your move long and hard.

totally agree!!How is 45k/year considered to be shitty. you would be living like a King in Western NY.Dam, i dont even make half of that.

but i would go to Vegas too. If things dont work out you can always get another banking job. GL
