12/08: Monday NFL Free Pick:

Falcons/Packers under the total. Not a nice night for football, cold and windy in Wisconsin. The Packers have allowed an average of 6 first half points in the past five home games. I see lots of RB Eddy Lacy against the soft Atlanta defense and a lower scoring final.

Play Atlanta/Green Bay under the total.

(513) PHOENIX SUNS VS (514) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Take: (514) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Reason: The Phoenix Suns having a decent year, but look what 48 wins go them last year, nothing. The west is tough and decent just isn't good enough. The Suns are 12-9 S/U and 11/9 ATS this season and have a winning road record of 6-5. But tonight they face a red-hot Clippers team. The Clippers are on of the best of the west with a 14-5 record, but lately they have been on fire. The Clips have won seven straight and covered five straight. But they aren't just covering, but winning big. They are coming off wins of 20, 28, 26, 16 and 17 points. This is their final home game before a short road stint so I look for one more big effort out of a red-hot Clippers team. Take the Clippers.

(507) DENVER NUGGETS at (508) TORONTO RAPTORS

Take: (508) TORONTO RAPTORS -9 (approximate number, as this is mostly unlined as I’m posting)

I’m not much of a volume player in the NBA. My preference is to zero in on a handful of situational spots and I’m generally looking to play on better teams in what I believe are advantageous scheduling instances. That’s the case tonight as Toronto plays host to Denver.

It’s the second of back to back games for the Nuggets. They’ve had some problems in this scenario in the past, although they’ve covered twice in three tries this season. But there were some mitigating circumstances in one of those wins, and tonight’s game looks to me to be a tough spot for Denver even without the lack of rest factor.

The Raptors have turned into a team that can be pretty tough when coming off a bad game. Toronto has become a bit of a pointspread beast playing off a loss. In their last 30 games in this situation, the Raptors are a robust 21-7-2 vs. the line. Good teams are frequently solid bets when having absorbed a defeat in the prior outing, and at least for the time being, Toronto qualifies on that count.

From a numbers standpoint, I have Toronto -5.6 against the Nuggets on a neutral court. Factor in the home court advantage and the isolated situations of no rest for Denver and off a loss for the Raptors, and I believe anything less than double digits is definitely playable. Toronto is still without DeMar DeRozan, and his presence has been missed. But the prime motivator for me tonight is what amounts to the angle combo, and I’m backing the Raptors as home chalk.

Comp NBA Pick for Monday, December 7, 2014: 7:05 PM ET

(501) BOSTON CELTICS VS (502) WASHINGTON WIZARDS

Take: (502) WASHINGTON WIZARDS

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Monday, December 8, 2014 is in the NBA scheduled contest between the Boston College and Washington Wizards. The Celtics have won two straight games after suffering through five straight losses and eight of nine. However, before you get too excited by the win streak, the Celtics wins came over the Lakers and Pistons - both at home. Now the Celtics have to move back up in competition as they play at Washington. The Wizards have more wins than the Lakers and Pistons combined with a 13-5 S/U mark and 9-8 ATS record. The Wizards have won four straight and eight of the last 10. They have also covered three straight games. The Wizards have also covered five of the last seven meetings with the Celtics. I'm taking the home club here on Monday with the Washington Wizards.

Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Bonus Play Minnesota Timberwolves

I'm recommending a play on the Timberwolves plus the points on Monday night. Golden State should leave Minneapolis with a win, but covering a 2-TD spread may be a little tough. The Warriors are off a win over the Chicago Bulls and have a date with the Houston Rockets up next. It would be easy to be a touch flat, at least enough to win comfortably, yet fall a few buckets from covering this number. While the T-Wolves are off to a horrible start and have had their share of injuries, the fact is, they would have covered tonight's number in 7 of 9 home games this season. The Warriors have been money-makers on the road this season, but this is by far, the biggest number they have laid away from home. In fact, I went back to the start of the 2010-11 season, a span of 175 road games and tonight's number is the biggest they have laid. In fact, it's just the second time they have been favored by more than 9 1/2 on the road during that span. Considering the spot they are in (mentioned above) I believe the value is on the underdog. I'm recommending a play on Minnesota plus the points on Monday night. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

Boston Celtics vs. Washington Wizards

Bonus Play Boston Celtics

NO Respect for the Boston Celtics after they defeated the Washington Wizards on Sunday night 101-93. This is the second leg of a home-and-home set between both teams and it should play out with both team splitting wins.

Boston has actually defeated the Wizards 9 out of their last 12 meetings. Expect the Wizards who won 4 in a row prior to their defeat to come home return to their winning ways. It's easy to see a well-balanced team like Washington and get too excited about them.

After the Wizards' 119-89 domination over the Nuggets, the public wanted to attack the line in Boston and were sorely disappointed. The books know that all eyes are on Washington to come back tonight and pick up where they left off at home against Denver. The problem is they've overcompensated and given too much of a handicap for the Wizards against the 7th ranked scoring offense in the Celtics.

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers 8:30PM

5* Green Bay Packers

Reason: 5* Play on Green Bay. We can't justify giving out Green Bay as a premium selection at this high of a line because of the obvious letdown spot coming off that marquee win against New England last week. That being said, The Packers are still the most likely team to cover the spread in this MNF matchup, and we are comfortable releasing them as our 5* Free Pick.

Packers are a perfect 6-0 SU (5-0-1 ATS) here at home and outscoring those teams by an average of 23 points per game. Falcons have been a mess all season long, and while they notched a rare win last week against Arizona, they are facing a completely difference offense this week. Aaron Rodgers and company have been putting up big numbers on everyone, and while this is a high line we still have to back them until they fail to cover the spread on this field. 5* Play on Green Bay.
