NFL Trends to Watch - December
By Marc Lawrence

As famed horse race announcer Dave Johnson was known to say, “And down the stretch they come.”

That familiar phrase can mean only one thing when it comes to the NFL – December is here. And with it our tireless database goes to work ferreting out the very best and the very worst team trends compiled by NFL teams during December since 1990.

Enjoy the games and the stretch run to the wire.

HOME TEAMS

Good: We are all aware how strong Seattle is at Century Link Field, but this month they are sensational 33-16 ATS. They will have division foes San Francisco and St. Louis in Week’s 15 and 17 respectively to prove their mettle.

Houston is another such club that takes care of business late in the season at home with a 16-8 ATS mark and will be hosting Baltimore and Jacksonville to close the season.

Keep an eye on (Good): It’s turned into a lost season for Carolina. It will be interesting to see if they can improve upon solid 26-15 ATS record at home with Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the middle of the month.

Green Bay’s weather gives them an edge in December (30-18 ATS) and they will have two indoor teams in Atlanta (Dec. 8) and Detroit (Dec. 28) at the frozen tundra.

Keep an eye on (Bad): On the first day of the month, the New York Jets host Miami and they are 18-31 ATS to close the season at home. Twenty days later New England will be in New Jersey in what could be Rex Ryan’s Jets curtain call.

Oakland often dominates these monthly articles and is 19-33 ATS at what is now called O.co Coliseum. Off their play this season, Bay Area rival (in name only, now playing in San Clara) San Francisco (12/7) and Buffalo (12-21) should pad their stats.

AWAY TEAMS

Keep an eye on (Good): Carolina is only 2-3 ATS on the road this season, which is a far cry from its 24-14 spread mark in the closing month of the season. The Panthers will face division rivals New Orleans and Atlanta on the first and last Sunday’s of the month to see if they are as good as the past beating spreads.

Bad: Handicappers, Windy City bettors and fans are well aware of Chicago’s late season troubles with a chilly 12-34 ATS record away from Soldier Field. Alas, just one encounter at Minnesota on Dec. 28.

Keep an eye on (Bad): Amazingly, this is the biggest group in any category in any month, thus because it’s the holidays and you have things to do, we’ll buzz through these swiftly. The sky always falls in Dallas in December both SU and ATS and the Cowboys are 19-34 ATS and they have to visit Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington. Speaking of Philly, they are a loathsome 17-32 ATS outside the City of Brotherly Love and close the year at Washington and at the Giants.

Oakland is as inept as the Eagles away from home (and pretty much everywhere) with a matching 17-32 ATS mark and will be in Kansas City (12/14) and Denver (12/28), likely making it another December to remember for Raiders fans.

Houston is 11-19 ATS and has stops at Jacksonville and Indianapolis the first two weeks of the month. Tampa Bay is 18-30 ATS and will try and play with just 11 players on the field at Detroit and Carolina to start the last month of 2014.

FAVORITES

Keep an eye on (Good): If you prefer to wager on favorites, the Packers should be your favorite team this month with a 45-24 ATS record. Expect Green Bay to be doling out the points four times in December.

Keep an eye on (Bad): Miami is the only team that could favored five times this month, which is not good news with their paltry 22-42 spread record. Fortunately, it will not be that often with a trip to New England (12/14) and possibly the week before when Baltimore is in South Florida.

The Jets and Raiders are both 16-26 ATS in this, but at this moment, hard to imagine sportsbooks will place them in this role.

DOGS

Good: Because of Carolina’s spread record on the road, they have also been a live dog at 28-14 ATS. Chances are they will be catching points at aforementioned contests at the Saints and Falcons and might be underdogs to Cleveland at home in Week 16.

Seattle a remarkable 40-20 ATS on the receiving end of points and might be a smallish pooch at Philadelphia on Dec. 7.

Keep an eye on (Good): New England is 21-12 ATS as an underdog and the only possibility is at San Diego on the Dec. 7, but it seems unlikely. The Eagles are a solid 25-15 ATS when receiving digits, but like the Patriots, only once might this happen when the Seahawks hit town.

Bad: As mentioned, the Bears are brutal on the road and nearly as painfully bad as underdogs at 14-34 ATS. This is worth following with contests against the Cowboys, Saints, Lions and at the Vikings to come.

Keep an eye on (Bad): Like a bad cold, Oakland pops up again at 20-39 ATS and every reason to believe they will be catching points four times this month.

Hats off to Jeff Fisher for making this season palatable, using two backup signal callers. St. Louis is 20-36 ATS as December dogs and will be at Seattle (12/28) but might not be any longer on the 11th when they host Arizona.

DIVISION

Good: Carolina is a marvelous 25-10 ATS in the AFC South but we will be as shocked as anyone if they cover two of their three battles this month with this crew.

Keep an eye on (Good): New England’s final three contests are versus AFC East foes and they are 29-15 ATS against them. The only reason this does not continue is if they wrap the top seed in the conference earlier.

Seattle has the same situation as the Pats schedule-wise, but they have a much tougher division and are 28-16 ATS.

Keep an eye on (Bad): Miami burns through bettors money like a Cuban cigar at 18-33 ATS in division action and has home and away with Gang Green and at New England.

Total Talk - Week 14
By Chris David

Under the Lights

Last week was the first time this season that both the Sunday and Monday night games went ‘under’ the number in the same weekend. Including this past Thursday’s outcome between the Cowboys and Bears, the ‘over’ owns a 30-11 (73%) record in primetime games.

I believe this week’s matchups have inflated totals and even though the Patriots and Packers can light it the scoreboard any given week, they’ve both seen the ‘under’ cash in their last two games.

Atlanta at Green Bay: Highest total (55) on the board and it’s going to be a pass for me. Green Bay is averaging 40.8 PPG at home this season and it could have its way against an Atlanta defense that has struggled at times. However, surprisingly the Falcons are in the playoff hunt at 5-7 and the only way they can win this game is by milking the clock. Make a note that even the Packers have been a great ‘over’ bet (5-1) at home, Atlanta has seen the ‘under’ go 6-1 in games outside of the Georgia Dome this season.

Falcons aim for MNF upset

ATLANTA FALCONS (5-7) at GREEN BAY PACKERS (9-3)

Kickoff: Monday, 8:30 p.m. ET
Line: Green Bay -12.5, Total: 55.5

The 5-7 Falcons look to keep their place atop the NFC South Division when they visit the NFC North-leading Packers on Monday night.

Atlanta picked up a big 29-18 home victory over the Cardinals last week for its third win in four games (2-2 ATS), but now faces a Packers team that is 8-1 SU (7-2 ATS) in its past nine games, including a 26-21 victory over the Patriots last week. Last season, the Falcons nearly escaped Lambeau Field with a victory but fell short 22-21 as 3.5-point road underdogs.

Green Bay star QB Aaron Rodgers did not play in that game, as he was out with a broken collarbone. The Packers are 4-3 SU against the Falcons in Green Bay since 1992, but the Atlanta is 6-1 ATS in those contests. Over the past two seasons, the Falcons are 8-0 ATS after allowing 6+ yards per play in two consecutive games. They are, however, just 3-13 ATS off an upset win as a home underdog since 1992, and they’re up against a Packers team that is 7-0 ATS in games played on a grass field this season.

WR Roddy White (ankle) is listed as questionable for the Falcons, who will need all the playmaking they can get to keep up with Green Bay.

The Falcons are coming off of a 29-18 win over the Cardinals and they have now won three of their past four games to put themselves in a tie for the division lead with New Orleans.

QB Matt Ryan (3,427 pass yards, 21 TD, 10 INT) was excellent in the win over Arizona, throwing for 361 yards with 2 TD and just 1 INT. Ryan has now thrown for nine touchdowns and just three interceptions over his past six games. He is taking care of the football, and will need to perform at a high level if the Falcons are going to pick up a gigantic win in Lambeau Field.

WR Julio Jones (82 rec, 1,169 yards, 5 TD) had 10 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown last week against Arizona, which mainly covered him with Patrick Peterson. Jones' confidence is higher than ever after dominating one of the best shutdown corners in football and he should be able to find success against Green Bay.

RB Steven Jackson (602 rush yards, 5 TD) will also play a major role in this game for the Falcons. He is coming off of a 101-yard performance against the Cardinals’ sixth-ranked rushing defense and now faces a Packers team that is allowing 132.3 rushing yards per game (28th in NFL).

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (3,325 yards, 32 TD, 3 INT) is playing the best football of his career this season and he is the main reason the Packers have as many wins as any NFL team. Over the past four weeks, Rodgers has thrown for 13 touchdowns without throwing a single interception. He’ll now have an opportunity to face the league’s worst-ranked passing defense and he should be able to put up some huge numbers in this game.

Both WRs Jordy Nelson (70 rec, 1,119 yards, 10 TD) and Randall Cobb (65 rec, 922 yards, 10 TD) will likely see plenty of open field against this porous secondary, and it’s likely that both of them will have at least one opportunity to find the back of the end zone in this game.

RB Eddie Lacy (770 rush yards, 6 TD) has been a monster for Green Bay over the past five weeks, gaining at least 110 total yards in all five contests, rushing for 4.8 YPC and scoring five touchdowns. His ability to wear down defenses has made Rodgers’ job much easier as a quarterback.

Since the Week 9 bye, the Packers defense has really turned a corner. They are allowing just 19.0 PPG in the past four weeks and if that number can stay around the same going forward, this offense won’t let this team lose too many games.

Biggest Favorite to Cash

Detroit (-10.5) continued to roll at Ford Field by avoiding a letdown with a 24-17 victory over the upset-minded Buccaneers. Matthew Stafford tossed three touchdowns for the Lions, who are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS at home this season.

Biggest Underdog to Cash

The Panthers (+9) and the Bills (+9) each took home the money as heavy favorites on the road. Carolina routed New Orleans from start to finish to snap a six-game losing streak in a 41-10 blowout. Buffalo couldn't knock off Denver, but the Bills trimmed a 24-3 deficit to 24-17 in the final minute to pick up the backdoor cover.

Home/Away

Road teams went 7-2 in the early games on Sunday. The only home squads to win in the 1:00 games were Minnesota and Detroit, as the Vikings pulled off an overtime victory over the Jets, 30-24, while grabbing a frontdoor cover.

Highway Chalk

In the four early games that featured road favorites, all four squads (Indianapolis, Houston, N.Y. Giants, and St. Louis) picked up victories, while this group went 3-1 ATS. The Colts (-3) rallied late to stun the Browns, 25-24, overcoming a pair of defensive touchdowns by Cleveland. The Texans, Giants, and Rams all won by double-digits, while St. Louis pulled off its second consecutive shutout.

Silver and Back

Break up the Raiders, who won for the second time in three games following an 0-10 start with Sunday's 24-13 home triumph of San Francisco as 8.5-point underdogs. Derek Carr outdueled Colin Kaepernick as the Oakland rookie quarterback tossed three touchdowns, while the Raiders' defefnse limited San Francisco to 248 yards.

Not so Sunny

All three Sunshine State teams lost, including the Jaguars and Dolphins at home. Miami blew an early 10-0 lead in a 28-13 defeat to Baltimore as three-point favorites in a virtual playoff game for positioning in the AFC. Jacksonville couldn't capitalize off last week's dramatic victory over the Giants, as the Jags fell short in a 27-13 setback to the Texans as 6.5-point underdogs.

Flying High

The Seahawks won on the East Coast for the third time in three tries this season, knocking off the Eagles, 24-14 in a key NFC showdown. Seattle opened up as one-point underdogs, but closed as 1.5-point favorites to improve to 4-3 on the road. Philadelphia suffered its first regular season loss at Lincoln Financial Field in the past 11 tries.

Totals

In the first full December card, the 'under' came through in nine of 13 games on Sunday, including a perfect 4-0 to the 'under' in the late contests.

The Steelers (42) and Panthers (41) were the top-scoring teams on Sunday, as Carolina barely went 'over' the total of 50.5 in a 41-10 win at New Orleans. Pittsburgh blew up in the fourth quarter at Cincinnati with a 25-point output, as the Steelers cruised to a 42-21 drubbing with a total of 47.5.

Indianapolis had an opportunity to pick up a push on the 50 total at Cleveland by just kicking the extra-point after the go-ahead touchdown, but the Colts went for a two-point conversion and missed it. The Colts actually went for another two-point converstion earlier and didn't convert, costing 'over' bettors for a free two points in a 25-24 win.

The Jets-Vikings game had the lowest total (40) on the board, as Minnesota led at halftime, 21-15 to pretty much guarantee an 'over.' The Jets tied the game at 21-21 early in the fourth, as New York snapped a four-game streak to the 'under' in a 30-24 loss.

Notable streaks that were extended and came to a close are listed below.

The Bills have cashed the 'under' in five consecutive games, while owning the best 'under' mark in the league at 11-2.

Tampa Bay's six-game 'under' streak came to a close in the 34-17 loss at Detroit on a 41.5 total.

Falcons or Packers? NFL bloggers debate who will cover Monday night

The Week 14 Monday Night Football matchup features a pair of teams in the mix for division crowns. The difference is that the Green Bay Packers own a 9-3 record, whereas the Atlanta Falcons are just 5-7.

The Pack are the hottest team in football, coming in with with a four-game winning streak (3-1 against the spread) and are tabbed as 13-point home favorites.

In order to get an inside look into this matchup, we’ve enlisted the help of those who know these teams the best. Expert NFL bloggers Dave Choate of Falcons blog The Falcoholic and Jason Hirschhorn of Packers blog Acme Packing Company strap on the pads and debate which team not only wins Monday night, but who covers the spread.

WHY ATLANTA WILL COVER

Dave Choate is the editor-in-chief at The Falcoholic. You can follow them on Facebook and Twitter @TheFalcoholic.

The Julio Jones factor

The Packers have a decent secondary, but Jones just destroyed one of the league's better cornerbacks a week ago, and remains one of the NFL's most dangerous wide receivers. There's no question that he'll have his opportunities in this game, and if he can take advantage, he'll be able to put the Packers back on their heels.

The Falcons are on a turnover run

In the last six weeks, the Falcons have racked up 11 interceptions. This isn't a great or even good defense across the board, but they have a deceptively strong secondary and can really wreak havoc when the ball is coming their way, particularly cornerback Desmond Trufant and safety William Moore.

This team is fighting for its life

After weeks and weeks of anemic performances, something seemed to click for the Falcons last week against the Cardinals. That might be due to the dawning realization that they're in the playoff hunt and every game matters, and I expect they'll have maximum effort dialed up against the Packers this week.

WHY GREEN BAY WILL COVER

Jason B. Hirschhorn writes for Acme Packing Company, a Green Bay Packers blog for SB Nation. You can follow him on Twitter @jbhirschhorn.

Aaron Rodgers vs. the Falcons secondary

Last Sunday, Aaron Rodgers picked apart the New England Patriots, owners of one of the best secondaries in the league. When the Patriots took away top receiver Jordy Nelson, Rodgers connected with Davante Adams for multiple deep throws. When New England adjusted to limit Adams, Rodgers responded with a 45-yard touchdown throw to Nelson. For whatever the Atlanta Falcons can throw at Green Bay, Rodgers will have a counter move. In a league filled with great quarterbacks, no one is playing the position better right now.

Green Bay's improved pass rush

In recent years, the Packers' pass rush would disappear at times when Clay Matthews suffered an injury or the opposing team managed to schemed him out of the game. That hasn't been a problem in 2014 with the arrival of Julius Peppers and the emergence of Mike Daniels. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers now has the pieces to get more creative with his play calls, a luxury he hasn't had since the team's Super Bowl run four seasons ago.

The Lambeau effect

The Packers aren't the only undefeated team at home this season, but their performance there is second to none. Three of the team's six home games were won by 32 points or more. Not coincidentally, Rodgers has not thrown an interception at Lambeau Field since the 2012 season. The weather report calls for low-20 degrees with a chance of snow. That's bad news for the dome-acclimated team such as Atlanta.

It's going to be a cold night at Lambeau for MNF
Stephen Campbell

If you're heading to the Monday Night Football matchup between Green Bay and Atlanta at Lambeau Field, make sure you're bundled up.

The forecast is calling for a cool night on the frozen tundra with a temperature of 34 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff. Western winds of 7 mph are also expected in the Green Bay area. There is currently a 30 percent chance of precipitation.

Oddsmakers have the Pack as -13 home faves for the contest. At the time of writing, the total was sitting at 55.

NFL game roundup: Seahawks shut down Eagles
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

PHILADELPHIA -- The Seattle Seahawks scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the second half and went on to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-14 on Sunday in a battle of two of the NFC's top teams.

Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score to help the Seahawks win their third straight game. Wilson had 263 yards passing and ran for 48 yards.

The Eagles were held to 139 total yards, the fewest under coach Chip Kelly.

Seattle (9-4) kept pace with first-place Arizona (10-3) in NFC West after the Cardinals beat Kansas City 17-14 on Sunday. Seattle beat the Cardinals 19-3 earlier in the season and the two teams meet again on Dec. 21 at Arizona.

The Eagles (9-4) fell into a first-place tie with Dallas in NFC East, although the Eagles hold a tiebreaker because they beat the Cowboys 33-10 on Thanksgiving Day. The two teams play again next Sunday night in Philadelphia.

Cardinals 17, Chiefs 14

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A critical moment went the way of Arizona, helping end a two-game losing streak with a victory over Kansas City.

A week after taking flak for not throwing a challenge flag in a tough loss at Atlanta, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians tossed his red hanky this time. Gambling with his last timeout in a close game, he won the challenge and a red-zone receiving first down by the Chiefs was reversed into a fumble recovery by the Cardinals.

The play prevented the Chiefs from taking the lead or kicking a game-tying field goal.

The win gives the Cardinals (10-3) back-to-back, double-digit win seasons for the first time since 1975-76 and kept them perfect at home this season at 7-0, the most in franchise history over a 16-game schedule.

Drew Stanton finished the game 15 of 30 for 239 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions for the Cardinals.

The Chiefs (7-6), who have lost three in a row, were shut out in the second half.

Patriots 23, Chargers 13

SAN DIEGO -- New England rebounded from a 14-3 deficit, scoring the game's final 20 points in a win over San Diego.

The Patriots, who lost at Green Bay a week ago, bounced back from a regular-season loss with a victory for the 10th consecutive time. New England (10-3) snapped the Chargers' three-game winning streak.

The Chargers (8-5) were shut out in the second half, and they fell two games behind the first-place Denver Broncos in the AFC West with three games remaining.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady finished 28 of 44 for 317 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception. New England wide receiver Julian Edelman produced 141 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.

Raiders 24, 49ers 13

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Derek Carr passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns and tight end Mychal Rivera caught seven passes for a career-high 109 yards with one score as Oakland stunned San Francisco.

The Raiders were coming off a 52-0 loss to the St. Louis Rams, but they won for the second time in three games. Oakland (2-11) delivered a painful blow to its Bay Area rivals' playoff hopes.

The 49ers (7-6) lost their second game in a row as they fell 19-3 to the Seahawks on Thanksgiving. San Francisco dropped three games behind the first-place Cardinals in the NFC West.

Carr completed 22 of 28 passes and posted a passer rating of 140.2. He did not throw an interception. Oakland fullback Marcel Reece caught seven passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick had another rough day, completing 18 of 33 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice, sacked five times and had a 54.4 passer rating.

Colts 25, Browns 24

CLEVELAND -- Indianapolis mounted a 90-yard scoring drive in the final minutes of the game and scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard pass from Andrew Luck to T.Y. Hilton with 32 seconds left to edge Cleveland.

The game-winning drive took 11 plays. The Colts (9-4) never led until they scored the go-ahead touchdown.

The Browns (7-6) have lost three of their past four games.

Brian Hoyer played the entire game at quarterback for the Browns, completing 14 of 31 passes for 140 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Colts trailed 21-7 in the third quarter before coming back behind Luck, who finished 24 of 53 for 294 yards with two interceptions.

Broncos 24, Bills 17

DENVER -- Buffalo held quarterback Peyton Manning without a touchdown pass but couldn't keep running back C.J. Anderson out of the end zone as Denver held on for a win.

Manning's streak of games with at least one touchdown pass was snapped at 51, three shy of Drew Brees' NFL record. Manning was 14 of 20 for 173 yards passing and was intercepted twice.

Denver's defense was just as rough, if not rougher, on Buffalo quarterback Kyle Orton, a former Bronco. Orton one-upped Manning with a touchdown pass while completing 38 of 57 passes for 355 yards, but he also was intercepted twice and was sacked four times.

Anderson, coming off successive 100-yard games, ran 21 times for 58 yards, including touchdown runs of 1, 3 and 6 yards for AFC West-leading Denver (10-3), which won for the fourth time in five games.

Buffalo (7-6) took a hit to its playoff hopes with its first loss in three games. The Bills were denied in their bid to reach eight wins in a season for the first time since 2004.

Steelers 42, Bengals 21

CINCINNATI -- Ben Roethlisberger passed for 350 yards and three touchdowns and Pittsburgh revived its playoff hopes with a victory over Cincinnati in a key AFC North clash.

Le'Veon Bell rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns for Pittsburgh, which also got 100-yard receiving days from Antonio Brown (117) and Martavis Bryant (109, touchdown).

The Steelers (8-5) trailed heading into the fourth quarter, but scored 25 points in less than 10 minutes to take control.

Cincinnati (8-4-1) lost despite a record-setting day by receiver A.J. Green, who had 11 catches for a career-high 224 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Andy Dalton passed for 302 yards and two chdowns and ran for another score for the Bengals, who still lead the AFC North despite having their three-game winning streak snapped.

Ravens 28, Dolphins 13

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- In a game between two teams battling to try to remain in the playoff race, Baltimore rallied to defeat Miami.

The Ravens (8-5) overcame a 10-point deficit, engineering four long touchdown drives -- 97, 75, 80 and 81 yards.

Miami (7-6) is just 3-3 at home this season, including two straight losses.

Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco completed 25 of 33 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 1-yard run, and the Ravens' defense got six sacks in the win.

Elvis Dumervil had 3 1/2 of Baltimore six sacks against Ryan Tannehill, who threw for 227 yards and a score. The Dolphins totaled only 249 yards.

Panthers 41, Saints 10

NEW ORLEANS -- Quarterback Cam Newton threw for three touchdowns and leaped high for another, and Jonathan Stewart rushed for 155 yards, including a 69-yard scoring scamper, as Carolina ended a seven-game winless streak by routing New Orleans Saints.

The victory for Carolina (4-8-1) was its first since Oct. 5, and the Saints (5-8) lost their fourth consecutive home game. In their previous seven games, the Panthers recorded a tie and six consecutive losses.

The 31-point loss was tied for the most lopsided for the Saints in eight seasons under head coach Sean Payton. The Saints had not lost four consecutive games at home since 1999. As poorly as the Saints have played, however, they still could be tied for first place in the NFC South if Atlanta (5-7) loses Monday night at Green Bay.

Lions 34, Buccaneers 17

DETROIT -- Quarterback Matthew Stafford passed for 311 yards and three touchdowns while running back Joique Bell had a rushing and receiving touchdown to lead Detroit over Tampa Bay.

Calvin Johnson caught eight passes for 158 yards and a touchdown for Detroit (9-4), which moved within a half-game of Green Bay for the NFC North lead.

Bell gained 83 yards on the ground and 50 yards on five receptions. Reggie Bush, who was sidelined for the fifth time in seven games with an ankle injury, gained 26 yards on eight carries.

Rookie Mike Evans caught two touchdown passes from Josh McCown for Tampa Bay (2-11). Evans caught four passes for 45 yards and Vincent Jackson had 10 receptions for 159 yards. McCown passed for 250 yards but was intercepted twice.

Vikings 30, Jets 24 (OT)

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Jarius Wright slipped out of a tackle and raced 87 yards for a touchdown, leading Minnesota to an overtime win over the New York Jets.

Facing third-and-5 on their own 13, Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater fired a quick screen to his right to Wright, who broke a tackle and outran the Jets down the sideline for his first touchdown of the season.

The score salvaged a win for Minnesota (6-7), which led most of the game.

Nick Folk connected on a 44-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining to force overtime for the Jets (2-1). It was Folk's fifth field goal of the day.

Texans 27, Jaguars 13

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Houston turned a costly Blake Bortles interception into a touchdown to keep alive its playoff hopes with a much-needed win over Jacksonville.

It was the Texans' first back-to-back win since the opening two games of the season. The Texans improved to 7-6.

Jacksonville fell to 2-11 and must win two of the last three games just to match its 4-12 mark last year.

Arian Foster ran for 127 yards and a touchdown for the Texans. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 19 passes for 135 yards. Defensive end J.J. Watt finished with three sacks and five quarterback hits.

Rams 24, Redskins 0

LANDOVER, Md. -- St. Louis abused quarterback Colt McCoy and dominated Washington in recording a second consecutive shutout win,

The Rams held Washington to 206 total yards, sacked McCoy six times and improved to 6-7 this season after entering November with a 2-5 record.

Shaun Hill threw touchdown passes of 1 and 35 yards to tight end Jared Cook to help the Rams push a 6-0 halftime lead to 24-0 by the end of three quarters.

Robert Griffin III replaced McCoy in the final two minutes after McCoy was pulled with a strained neck. Griffin, benched before last week's game at Indianapolis, completed 3 of 4 passes for 34 yards and also took a sack as Washington fell to 3-10.

Giants 37, Titans 7

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Odell Beckham Jr. caught 11 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown, while Andre Williams rushed 24 times for 131 yards and a score in the New York Giants' rout of Tennessee.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw for 260 yards on 26-of-42 accuracy, although he accounted for Tennessee's lone touchdown when he was picked off by cornerback Marqueston Huff for a 23-yard score with 8:36 left in the third quarter.

New York (4-9) had not won since its 30-20 victory over Atlanta on Oct. 5.

Tennessee (2-11) dropped its seventh straight, not even picking up a first down until the second quarter's first play. Quarterback Zach Mettenberger left the game with 10:30 remaining after being sacked for the fifth time and reinjuring the right shoulder.

Monday Night Football betting preview: Falcons at Packers

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers (-13, 55.5)

The Atlanta Falcons would be out of the playoff picture in any other division, but residing in the NFC South has provided them with a clear path to the postseason. That doesn't equate to an easy road for the Falcons, who face a daunting obstacle Sunday when they visit Aaron Rodgers and the red-hot Green Bay Packers. Atlanta is tied for first in the NFC South while Green Bay leads the NFC North and is unbeaten (6-0) at home.

Last week's 29-18 over Arizona - the Falcons' first against a team with a winning record - actually was a boost for the Packers, who are among three 9-3 teams fighting for the top overall seed in the conference. Green Bay prevailed in a high-profile matchup last week, snapping New England's seven-game winning streak for its fourth victory in a row and eighth in nine games. "We have some big goals, and we know what we have in front of us, we have a four-game stretch here," Packers top wideout Jordy Nelson said. "We can’t let up at all and we need to make sure we take care of business."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened the Packers as 11.5-point favorites, but action has moved that to -13. The total opened at 56 and is down a half-point.

INJURY REPORT: Falcons - G Justin Blalock (Probable, back), WR Harry Douglas (Probable, foot), WR Roddy White (Questionable, ankle), DT Paul Soliai (Questionable, personal). Packers - CB Sam Shields (Questionable, concussion), LB Jamari Lattimore (Questionable, ankle).

POWER RANKINGS: Falcons (+2.75) + Packers (-6.0) + home field (-3.0) = Packers -11.75

WEATHER: Forecasts are calling for temperatures in the low-30s and wind blowing across the field at 6 mph.

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "The Falcons looked like the Falcons of old against Arizona and they need to keep that going heading to Green Bay Monday night. Atlanta is 0-4 ATS in its last four after a win. The Pack are 1-7 ATS in their last eight vs. losing teams." Matt Fargo.

ABOUT THE FALCONS (5-7SU, 5-7 ATS, 5-7 O/U): An injury-ravaged offensive line has contributed to the offensive inconsistency for Atlanta, but Matt Ryan is coming off his highest output since Week 1 with a 361-yard, two-TD performance in last week's win over Arizona. Julio Jones had a monster performance with 10 catches for 189 yards and has scored a TD in consecutive games, but fellow wideout Roddy White missed last week's game due to an ankle injury and did not practice Friday, although coach Mike Smith said he expected the veteran to play. Running back Steven Jackson has failed to crack 60 yards in 10 of 12 games but went over 100 yards for the first time last week. The Falcons rank last with 403.2 yards allowed, but they have permitted an average of 19 points during the current 3-1 streak.

ABOUT THE PACKERS (9-3 SU, 7-4-1 ATS, 9-3 O/U): Green Bay has been a juggernaut on its home field, averaging nearly 44 points prior to behind held to 26 by the Patriots despite rolling up 478 total yards. Rodgers is coming off his sixth 300-yard game and has 32 touchdowns versus only three interceptions while posting numbers at Lambeau Field that are off the charts - 20 TDs and zero picks this season to extend his NFL records of 32 scoring passes and 366 attempts without being intercepted at home. Nelson and Randall Cobb are the first tandem in franchise history with at least 10 TD passes in a season while running back Eddie Lacy has rushed for 223 yards on 46 carries the past two weeks. A defense that has held eight of its last 10 opponents to 21 points or fewer could be without cornerback Sam Shields (concussion).

TRENDS:

* Falcons are 4-0 ATS in their last four meetings in Green Bay.
* Under is 5-1 in Falcons last six vs. NFC.
* Over is 6-1 in Packers last seven vs. NFC.
* Packers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.

CONSENSUS: 67 percent of bettors are backing the Packers.

Matchup Skinny Tech Trend

ATLANTA at GREEN BAY ...Pack “over” 9-3 TY and 12-3 last 15 reg season games, also five straight wins and covers at Lambeau TY. Falcs, however, have covered last three away in departure from previous road-poor form. But they’re 0-2 as a visiting dog this season and 3-7 in role since LY (though did get late-season cover at Rodgers-less Pack last December). Pack and “over,” based on team and “totals” trends

NFL Football: Streaks, Tips, Notes

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers December 8, 08:30 EST
This week's Monday Night'r features Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons squaring off at Lambeau Field. According to current odds the Green Bay Packers are -13.0 point favorites.

That whopping nod by the oddsmaker is due to Packers' tremendous hot streak winning 8-of-9 (7-2 ATS) defeating opponents by a margin of 15.3 points/game and an even bigger part, the success Packers' have enjoyed at Lambeau Field (5-0-1 ATS) bulldozing past all six visitors by an average of 23.2 points/contest.

A scary number when you consider double digit favorites are just 9-7-1 against the betting line this season. However, there is enough supporting numbers in Packers' favor to counteract such concerns.

The Packers have covered 6 of 7 at home when chalk of nine or more points, have covered 7 of 8 as home faves during the month of December. Finally, Falcons 1-5 ATS on the road scoring a lowly 18.5 PPG fall into a negative team-based situation, they're 3-13 ATS off an upset win as a home underdog.
