Preview: Canucks at Rangers
Gracenote
Nov 11, 2018

The New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks ventured into shootouts in their last outing to push their respective point streaks to six games heading into Monday's matchup at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers improved to 5-0-1 on their run with a 5-4 victory at Columbus on Saturday while the visiting Canucks are 4-0-2 after seeing a late two-goal lead in the third period go by the boards in a 4-3 setback at Buffalo.

New York's Jimmy Vesey, who had two goals in two games versus Vancouver last season, posted his second multi-point performance in four outings after registering an assist before scoring the game-tying goal against the Blue Jackets. The 25-year-old Vesey, who also netted the winner in the fifth round of the shootout, has six points (three goals, three assists) in his last five games. While the Rangers improved to 4-0 in shootouts, the Canucks enter Monday's tilt with their tail between their legs after allowing a pair of goals 40 seconds apart late in the third period. "That's not good when you're up 3-1 with under five to go, you need to close it out. It's as simple as that," said Vancouver defenseman Erik Gudbranson, who scored early in the third period to push his career-high point streak to five games (two goals, four assists).

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (10-6-2): Loui Eriksson is riding a four-game point streak after scoring and setting up a goal against the Sabres while flashy rookie Elias Pettersson has seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last four. Jake Virtanen also scored a goal for the second straight contest for the Canucks, who will need to rid the sour taste in their mouths before squaring up with the Rangers. "A lot of the guys are playing well. We're playing some good hockey," fellow forward Bo Horvat told reporters. "It's unfortunate to give up that point. I thought we had a pretty solid game for 55 minutes; it's just a matter of closing it out."

ABOUT THE RANGERS (8-7-2): Mika Zibanejad scored against Columbus to extend his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists) and give him 14 of his team-leading 15 points in the last 13 contests. Fellow forward Pavel Buchnevich collected a goal and an assist versus the Blue Jackets to push his point streak to three games, during which he has two of each. Chris Kreider netted his club-best eighth goal Saturday and Kevin Hayes set up a pair of tallies to push his assist streak to a career high-tying three games.

OVERTIME

1. Vancouver G Jacob Markstrom owns a 3-1-1 career mark in six encounters versus New York despite sporting a 3.59 goals-against average and .881 save percentage.

2. Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist's 436 wins are one shy of tying Hall of Famer Jacques Plante for seventh place on the NHL's all-time wins list.

3. New York owns a 9-2-1 mark in its last 12 contests versus Vancouver.

Preview: Blackhawks at Hurricanes
Gracenote
Nov 11, 2018

The Chicago Blackhawks have spiraled out of control with losses in seven straight games (0-6-1) while the Carolina Hurricanes would be in the same situation had they not emerged victorious in the Windy City on Thursday. The struggling clubs bid to regain their footing at the other's expense on Monday when they conclude their season series at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.

Chicago fell to 0-2-0 under new coach Jeremy Colliton after following up a 4-3 loss to Carolina with a 4-0 setback in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. "We're making little mistakes here and there. We need to be better after we give up goals," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who has seen his team outscored 30-12 during its winless skid, told reporters. After seeing a 4-0 lead nearly evaporate versus the Blackhawks, the Hurricanes failed to hold a two-goal advantage in the third period and dropped a 4-3 decision in a shootout to Detroit on Saturday. "We should have managed it better. A couple mistakes cost us," Carolina head coach Rod Brind'Amour told the media. "I didn't like our third period at all. ... We just took our foot off the gas, and it cost us."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, FS Carolinas

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (6-8-3): Cam Ward returns to PNC Arena for the first time as a member of a visiting team and will face the club with which he helped capture a Stanley Cup. "I anticipate it to be strange and emotional at the same time," said the 34-year-old, who serves as the Hurricanes leader in games played, wins (318) and shutouts (27). "I'm very grateful for my time, my 13 years, that I was able to play in Carolina and I have a lot of people to thank for the opportunities I was given there." Ward, who was named the 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy recipient, has yielded 11 goals during his three-game winless skid.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (7-7-3): Carolina hasn't been shy in regard to testing opposing goaltenders, as the club registered its third performance this season of unleashing at least 50 shots on goal Saturday. Lucas Wallmark, who had two assists in last week's encounter with Chicago, recorded a team-high eight shots versus the Red Wings. Fellow forward Andrei Svechnikov added five shots in that contest after scoring his fourth goal of the season against Blackhawks.

OVERTIME

1. Carolina G Scott Darling, who was traded from Chicago in April 2017, made 35 saves against the Blackhawks to record his lone win in four outings this season.

2. Chicago RW Patrick Kane, who scored and set up a goal in the first meeting, resides one point shy of 850 in his career.

3. The Hurricanes have scored on the power play in three straight games.

Preview: Blue Jackets at Stars
Gracenote
Nov 11, 2018

The visiting Columbus Blue Jackets look to continue their dominance of the Dallas Stars on Monday when they carry a four-game point streak into American Airlines Center. The Blue Jackets, who posted a 4-1 home victory over the Stars on Tuesday, have won six straight encounters between the teams and are 11-2-1 versus the club since the 2012-13 season.

Artemi Panarin set up Pierre-Luc Dubois' club high-tying seventh goal of the season to join Alexander Wennberg and captain Nick Foligno in extending their point streaks to three games on Saturday in Columbus' 5-4 shootout loss to the New York Rangers. Dubois has eight points (five goals, three assists) in his last eight contests for the Blue Jackets, who are 2-0-2 in their last four. Dallas fell for the third time in four outings (1-1-2) following a 5-4 overtime loss to Nashville on Saturday. Captain Jamie Benn, who had an assist versus the Predators, scored his team-leading seventh goal in the first meeting with Columbus last week.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Columbus), FS Southwest-Plus (Dallas)

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (9-6-2): Defenseman Seth Jones set up a career high-tying three goals versus the Rangers to boost his total to six assists in his last four contests. Anthony Duclair had a power-play goal against the Stars and added another tally in Friday's 2-1 win at Washington before drawing the ire of coach John Tortorella, who limited him to just 5:40 of ice time versus New York. "All three of them. I can't play them as line," Tortorella said of the Duclair-Wennberg-Oliver Bjorkstrand line. "I can't play Wennberg's line together because they get scored on. They don't check."

ABOUT THE STARS (9-6-2): Tyler Seguin, who has seven goals in 14 career encounters with Columbus, has tallied in back-to-back games to push his team-leading point total to 17. Fellow forward Alexander Radulov is expected to return to the ice on Monday after missing 10 of the past 11 games due to a lower-body injury. "(His energy) is missed a lot," Dallas coach Jim Montgomery told reporters. "And also his intensity that he plays with. He brings people into the fight with him. It's something we clearly miss when he is not there."

OVERTIME

1. Dallas last recorded a victory against Columbus on Dec. 15, 2015 at home.

2. The Blue Jackets have four power-play goals in their last three games after going 0-for-20 in the previous five.

3. Stars C Jason Spezza resides one point shy of 900 for his career.

Preview: Predators at Ducks
Gracenote
Nov 11, 2018

The Nashville Predators have soared to the top of the league standings with practically no offensive contribution from their leading goal scorer lately. Filip Forsberg looks to end his drought when the Predators visit the Anaheim Ducks on Monday in search of their sixth consecutive victory.

Nashville improved to 2-0-0 on its five-game road trip and 8-0-0 overall away from home with Saturday's 5-4 overtime triumph in Dallas as Forsberg helped set up the game-tying goal by Roman Josi with 43 seconds remaining in the third period before fellow defenseman Mattias Ekholm scored 2:27 into the extra session. That was the only point recorded during the Predators' winning streak by the 24-year-old Forsberg, who hasn't tallied since since registering a hat trick on Oct. 27 versus Edmonton. Anaheim's offense continues to sputter as it was limited to fewer than three goals for the eighth time in 11 games in Friday's 5-1 home loss to Minnesota. Pontus Aberg netted the lone tally in the setback to pull even with Jakob Silfverberg for the team lead with five as the Ducks fell to 1-1-0 on their three-game homestand.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, FS Tennessee (Nashville), FS West (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE PREDATORS (13-3-0): Nashville was without one player on Saturday but welcomed back another as Calle Jarnkrok sat out with a lower-body injury while fellow forward Viktor Arvidsson (lower body) returned to the lineup after missing three games. The 25-year-old Arvidsson, who is second on the team with eight goals, notched an assist against the Stars but exited the contest late in the third period after crashing into the boards. Josi is riding a five-game point streak during which he has collected three goals and four assists after notching one of each on Saturday.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (7-8-3): Nick Ritchie was back on the ice for Anaheim on Friday after missing six games with an upper-body injury and registered one shot, five hits and a minus-2 rating in just over 15 minutes of action. The 22-year-old left wing has notched one assist in three contests this season after collecting 27 points (10 goals) in 76 games last campaign. Rickard Rakell, who leads the team with 12 points, has gone four contests without a goal and remains one shy of 100 for his career.

OVERTIME

1. Despite their overall success, the Predators are 30th in the league on the power play at 13.6 percent.

2. Anaheim rookie LW Max Comtois (lower body), who hasn't played since Oct. 23, was assigned to San Diego of the American Hockey League for conditioning.

3. Nashville's eight-game road winning streak to begin a season is the third-longest in NHL history behind a 10-game run by the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres and a nine-game stretch by the 2009-10 New Jersey Devils.

NHL | Blackhawks vs Hurricanes
Play on: Hurricanes -155 at Bovada
The set-up: Carolina won’t be “looking past” its opponent today as it’s lost eight of its last ten. The Hawks have lost five in a row, but the Hurricanes enjoy five whole days off after this, so I’m expecting the home side to lay everything on the line tonight. There’s no rest for the wicked as far as Chicago is concerned though, with a night off before a tough divisional game at home against an equally as hungry Blues team.
The pick: Take it for what you will as well, but Carolina is 7-2 in its last nine non-conference home games as a home fav in the -150 to -175 range. Consider Carolina in this match-up.

Memphis enters this game ranked 28th in offence (103.1 ppg) and 1st in D ppg allowed(101.1) and and 30th in pace . The Grizzlies are methodical in their approach to all games, and are a very physical team. It must be noted that 6 of the Grizzlies L/9 opponents did not breach the 100 point plateau. Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz are ranked towards the middle of the pack in most major categories, but have for a long time now based their successes and failures on their ability to play a top tier brand of two way hoops. Right now they have gotten away from that a bit , but tonight they will be forced into a slower pace and acclimate themselves well to that slower speed limit. With that said, Im betting on this tilt being a hard fought old school type affair that stays on the low side of the Total.
