Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach MLB Game #957 Monday Free Pick San Diego Padres Money Line (+) @ New York Mets @ 7:10 ET - As regular followers know I went with the Mets and Jacob deGrom yesterday against the Yankees and that game got rained out. At first glance, one would be surprised to see that I am now going against deGrom the very next day. However, the differences here are huge and there is solid reasoning for going against the Mets here. First off, deGrom was hyped up to face the Yankees in the Subway Series and got all "geared up" for last night's start only to be letdown when it got rained out. Secondly, the Mets were a big dog yesterday and now they're a big favorite in this spot. Thirdly, the Mets will now be facing a southpaw today and would have been facing a right-hander yesterday. This certainly holds significance here as the Mets are dead last (#30 out of 30) in BOTH batting average and slugging percentage versus left-hand pitching this season. The Padres played a double-header yesterday and, prior to getting shutout in Game 2, San Diego had averaged scoring 6 runs per game in their 5 prior games. They'll have Eric Lauer on the mound for this one and this is his first start against the Mets which gives him an edge over hitters who haven't seen much, if any, of his offerings. Lauer is off of a poor start versus the Cubs but note that the Padres lefty had compiled a solid 2.33 ERA in his 8 prior starts! This is a tremendous value spot for San Diego. The Padres are 21-15 (+$14,100!) when off of a shutout loss! The Mets are 6-12 this season in home games with a posted total of 8 or 8.5 runs! Free Pick SAN DIEGO
