tonite the badgers stated that davis will not play against the gophers on saturday. in his ncaa career he averaged 250/yds@gm vs the gophers -- big loss for the badgers.

Han - Davis is like Bennett for the Vikings. They lose their homerun threat but still have many quality backs to get the job done. Will be at the game Saturday.

smith and stanley are good, but davis is a electric. the badgers will still have their moments against the u d, but theteam seems to play with more confidence with davis in the backfield.

going to the game -- that would be AWESOME -- what a great college atmosphere!!!

shinc

they are better off w/ schabert starting in my humble opinion.

i`ll have to pull off the wisky play now....the way n.w. ran roughshod on wisky,it`s frightening thinking what barber et al might put up....was hoping davis might be able to keep the gopher offense off the field for long stretches...

What about the over here- My local has posted 56- Minnesota averages 45.5 a game at home in the dome. Wisonsin D is good, but has not faced an offense like the Gophers. Best so far was Purdue and they surrendered 26 in that game. Wisconsin will have some success as well even if Davis can't go as the other backs are powerfull and Minny's defense was shredded by Michigan & Michigan State. Both teams are very well balanced so the defense's can't line up to stop just the run or just the pass.

Han - Yeah, have been going to all the Badger/Gopher games here for the past eight years. There have been some great games between these two. My favorite was back in 1995 (night game and sauced up crowd) when the Badgers won 34-27 and got the Axe back. Naturally, after the game, they run over to the Gophers side and take the Axe back. They then run around the dome with the Axe, led by the chearleaders (guys and gals). They were running around the Gopher's side, right by the stands, when a drunk fan came out of the stands and tackled the Badgers chearleader (guy). You could see it coming a mile away but the guy never saw it coming. He got smacked. Right after that happened, two or three Badger offensive lineman ran over to get the guy. As the guy was trying to climb back up into the stands, a couple of Badger fans came over and started to pummel the guy, left and right. The cops came and pulled the guy back down and arrested him.

As far as this game goes, being a Badger fan, I never liked Sorgi but now that he hasn't played in a couple of games, they badly need him back. Their passing game is non-existent without him.

As for Davis, I agree that they play with more confidence, but their other backs can get the job done. Again, I compare it to Bennett (another Badger back), with the Vikings. The Vikings are still a capable team without him and can still run the ball very well without him, but they are more of a homerun threat with him.

As for the total, I liked the over with Davis, but the Badger's drives will be longer and more sustained without Davis and that makes it a little riskier.

The Gophers haven't beaten a winning team yet and lost both games to the only two good teams they have played. BUT, you must respect what they did to Michigan, running for over 400 yards. Wisky is in a very good situation this week that I will talk about in my write-ups and Alvarez is a GOD when he is getting seven or more points. In addition, much like the Packers last week, they had a bye last week and will come prepared.

gobucks,

imho, i think you are right about the over in this game. i have been playing the over in every minnesota home game this year and am just laughing at seeing this number at 55, take it to the bank.

i think you hirt the nail on the head -- passing. i think that the badgers will be able to pass against the gophers no matter who plays qb. i also think khaliq SUCKS!

i see a couple int's by opportunistic badger d-backs; i see mason (who also SUCKS) getting befuddled, and frustrated.

minnesota will run -- the sooners couldn't stop their backs, but they get out-coached, and out qb'ed, and just simply fail in their attempt ONCE AGAIN to get to that elusive 10 win mark.

I agree Mason DOES suck. But to apply the same label to Khaliq is ridiculous. He is the top rated passer Nat`l 17/4 TD Int, 65% comp, OVER 10 yds per ATT which is better than White # OU or Leinart @ SC. Is he a classic passing QB? No But for what the Gophers ask him to do he is great. He had a great gm against MST 27/40, 377yds, 4Td`s 0 int. Against Mich. he had a less than stellar day passing but did rush for over 100 yds. The Mn passing gm was hardly the issue as we ran for over 400 yds. In both cases it was the D that let us down. I`ve been following the M&G for over 40 yrs. IMO Khaliq is one of top 3 all around QB`s we have had. Blame the defense if you want, but not the QB. Wait till next yr when he`s gone, you`ll be whining a lot more than now.

Can't we apply the same theory to Mason that you applied to Kahliq? See how good the Gophers are when Kahliq is gone. Don't people remember the Jim Wacker days?

I realize it's not a big accomplishment to make it to a bowl game anymore but at least Mason has this program on the right track. Yes, he hasn't done what Alvarez has done or Ferentz, but he's producing a winning program.

That`s a fair assessment! Some people you`re drawn to some not, Mason is one of the latter. Hell I didn`t like Denny either? So maybe I was refering to personal animus rather than coaching ability. M&G 35-31!

silver - I bleed Green and Gold and Red and White and I didn't like Denny either. I do like Tice and I am partial to Mason because I have a friend who knows him pretty well. And she would agree, as do I and many other people, he is not a people person. He certainly doesn't engage himself to the public, much like Denny didn't.

Will Mason ever get the Gophers to the Rose Bowl and win it? I don't know. He might end up being like Denny, where he could turn them into a winner but never a great team. Time will tell.

Enjoy the game Saturday. I'll be there and it should be a lot of fun.

Go Bucky!

i'm sorry but i completely diagree!!! kahliq is mediocre at BEST! he can't read coverages, he can't throw down field (w/accuracy -- the plays are made by the w-outs).

take your stat rating and throw it out the window!! you know that as well as i do! that means nothing -- hell he's not the 10th best qb in the country, dbl hell he's not the 20th best. in fact, imo he's in the bottom five of the big ten!! watch he WILL NOT be drafted.

what he does and does it well (sort of) is hand the ball off. who wouldn't have awesome passing stats when your team rushes for over 300 yds a game??????

he is NOT a leinhart or a white; he is noteven a orton, nor a navarre, let alone a smoker. he is not a leader -- he just does what he has to, or maybe a little less.

i agree the back-ups are shit, next year -- watch there will be a juco qb starting for the M&G.

and don't even get me started on mason and his moronic decisions, nor get me started on denny and his talented COMPLETELY UNDISCIPLINED teams!

ever been to a game at camp randall??? i would assume so -- now, that's the way college football is s'pose to be. i, myself, love watching football in collegeville -- ST. JOHN'S.

Would Ok. like to have Mn run gm or Pitt, Miami of course. They don`t we do and also have Khaliq, who altho not the kind of QB to take a tm on his back, has done what`s within his capabilities and the team has lost 2 gms. Only one of which could even remotely be blamed on him. Will he be drafted as a QB? Of course not! So what? Ask Arkansas if they like him!

you are really missing the point my friend!!!! the M&G have played two "big" games this year both at home, both losses. he passed for a lot of yards vs the spartans cause we were down from the word go. yet, when kahliq had the opportunity to win the game which he did -- he didn't, in fact he failed miserabley -- overthrowing wide open receivers, and making poor decisions.
in the michigan game he ran for more yards than he passed -- just what you look for in a qb???? he's the obvious weak link to our offense -- despite your obscure, disingenious stat. as for, arkansas he passed for 266 yds yee haw!!! and many of the passes, once again were up for grabs when utecht, burns, and hosack made great plays. the deeper part of the M&G win in the music city bowl were the +4 turnovers!

How much are Coaches worth? Wisky off a bye with barry vs the "family man" Mason.
